Im so lost at anything to do with XP, so Im kinda trying the "get help when I need it" approach.

Question: Can someone show me how to start a beginning cut scene? I need a sprite walking across the map, and "thoughts" being seen as it does so, then another sprite coming in and talking to the first.

You can do that with an event set to Parallel Process

Making the sprite walk across the map, you use the Move Event command.

With the thoughts part, you can use message.  There's a couple ways you could symbolize thoughts.
  • (Put it in parenthesis.  Most games use these to symbolize thinking).
  • Use Message Display options to set it to not show the message window.  That will give it an invisible feel. Just make sure to set it back to normal when you're done.
  • Maybe tint the screen with a little bit of gray to take the saturation out of the image.
Use whichever works best for you or come up with your own idea.  However you think is the best way to show it.

You can use a switch to make the other sprite appear, and use the move event to make him walk in.

And for talking, you just use messages again.  Hope that helps ^^
