Your greatest flaw is that you have a soul.
Warm greetings.

Alright I finally encountered a design problem I'm really having difficulties with so I'm hoping some of you who can do good spriting can help me out on this matter. I tried doing it myself but ended up really frustrated. I did other humanoid characters just fine, using various elements but I really want this one to look special.

I need just one fancy character RPGXP sprite with a lil bit advanced details for a specific game character.

Basically, it is a humanoid cougar. It has a Final Fantasy Kimahri style body with Chrono Cross Lynx face but it is neither lion nor lynx (although we can discuss about Lynx's face), it is Cougar (Puma, Mountain Lion). It is a playable character.

I don't know what kind of sprites xp can accept (other than the standard) but if it can recognize bigger sprites it would be good if you could make a bigger sprite than standard because Cougar will be almost 10ft tall and weight about 500 lbs. If there's a problem with that, you don't have to bother, you can make it standard size and normal details. It's just important for it to look specific.

Apart from body that should appear muscular, other details include cougar face (NOT that tiger/panther style face that people use, but really a cougar shape because there is a major difference in facial expression and look between cougar and other cats), a very long mantle (longer than common mantles we can see),  ashy fur instead of brown-white and a weapon included sprites - he always wears a weapon.

I will provide you with some pictures reffering to specific part of his sprite so that you can understand what I imagined (Since there is more than few I made a link instead of image so please have patience while being transfered)

This is generally his body posture and figure

This is generally his weapon. As you can see, it goes on both sides and both sides are, well, equal. Something like a double-bladed, double-sided sword

This is a brilliant example of cougar's profile

This is a beautiful example of ash cougar and its face

This is a great example of his mantle

This face and top of the mantle is super close to what Cougar should be, and the expression is quite good. Cougar must look brutal and deadly

I hope this helped you and I hope someone will be willing to aid me.

Oh, just once more - please don't use tiger shape for a face - cougar is not tiger. :D Thank you.

You probably know how each characterset works so if you think there could be some problems with sprites don't bother doing it big, make it standard size. However, if you think there will be no problems with sprites I'd like you to make it double the size (or alike). You see, suppose a common fancy character is 6'0'' tall and 200 lbs of weight - this creature is 9'9''  tall and weights over 500 lbs in mass and muscles so a standard size doesn't preview him well enough. ;) I want players to feel this creature. He's a big bad monstrous mofuc...  :=:

As for what char body style, I'm not familiar with the possibilites so try a long shot to resemble figure from the first link. As best as you can, no need to hurry.

If you have any questions just ask and um...you know, I'm lifelong thankful.

There are lycanthrope sprites that can be easily edited to suit your or your spriter's needs. I forget where they are though...

heh. ^^;

Depends which. I've been checking many of them but did not find them suitable. Lets just see for now what biohazard will do, from what I've seen his a great spriter.

and you want him wearing... what, a black robe?  I would try black leather, but I dont think I have a good enough idea of cougar anatomy, let alone a cougar that walks on its hindlegs, and I just think if I did something that clearly distinguished the legs that it would look really bad... so a robe?

If you have problems with the legs or so (following Kimahri's body), you can make it normal, I'll see what I can do myself then. Not really a robe, just a very long mantle. Robe is what we don't want to do.  :D Actually, take a look at this, I did this on hero machine:

Ok, this is something like this creature in real display (ofcourse the details are nothing like cougar because the hero machine simply did not have resources and nevermind that cat down there) what interests you here are the clothes and colors. As you see it's not a robe but a fancy mantle covering a bit of upper body and goes all the way down the back (like on that picture where woman is blowing monsters dick). The creature is, in fact pretty much naked except for what you se on the pic (bracers on hands and legs, and that eastern-style belt, no pants, no shoes, no shirts or armor). The colors are also with what you should be coloring. Ashy gray and black.

If you're having problems with a particular detail, you can always try to bypass it, I won't have problems editing it. Also don't bother with some details from this last pic, like the hair. Nevermind that or anything else, this last pic is important solely because of clothes and colors. All other guides are in the first post where links are (e.g. face).

As for the anatomy, you can make it more or less look human if that is easier than making a Khimari body, what I'd love is that you try making his face right. I failed, and it's really imporant. Cougar face.

I just decided to sketch a cougar face, I think I got most of it down... I made the eyes a little "sharper" to show that he is menacing, and I made the nose a little bunched up between the eyes. Tell me what you think, is this the cougar face you envisioned?

I was looking at this pic when I drew it:

Wow, that's pretty good. Cougar isn't easy to draw. However, this is more close to a character's personality:

http://www.linsdomain.com/totems/pictures/cougar.jpg

If you compare the two, you can notice that this one has less fur (different time of year, more elegant) and more of that cat mystery/canniness in its face which is a bit extended in the jaw and facial expression that the pic in your post. You can also track the black borders around the mouth, nose to eyes and around them and head for easier outline. This one also has a very pretty eyes (in and out) so if it is not a problem you could try with this one. You can always thick/narrow (vertical) the eyes a little to look meanear, bit since the final sprite will be small there won't be of a big importance and I can always edit it later myself, a pixel here and there.

yes it wont really matter, but I think it will help, and I get what you mean, my cougar head did look a littly pudgy around below the ears, so I was going to make it more concave anyway.  Sorry if it takes a while, im busy with other stuff now.

Alright then. It's not a deal you should spend your lifetime doing, hah. Just do it as you'll find time, it's already great you did decide to help, anyway.
