Title: (RM2k3 vs) XP vs VXA vs MV
Post by: Fatih on November 20, 2015, 02:21:17 AM
I have been using XP for a long time. In fact, it may have been as early as 5 years ago that I have used it since I first found out about it through pokemon essentials through youtube.

Of course, I never made a PE game, but I have played around with it a long time, but I never actually did something serious with it, until now, which is my secret project.

Except, I've been thinking that I should move with the times. I'm used to XP, but... Should I upgrade? I know there will be newer and possibly better scripts, but for MV, I may have to wait a long while to get it, and it may not have the needed scripts ready. (fyi the two most important ones are a Tactical BS and max stat/lvl increaser)

So, I'll just lay down the question.

Who wins?

( :rm2k3: VS) :rmxp: VS :rmvx: VS :rmmv:

This can be a general discussion, but I will take it all into account.

Generally, it feels like the makers improve drastically with each newer release (except for VX). If you happen to see VXA on sale for a bundle or something, it's totally worth it. Otherwise, I think MV has made a lot of improvements to the series, such as:

-being able to stack two tiles of the same type
-built-in mouse support - nearly every mouse script for VXA would eventually crash the game, due to the improper disposal of sprites.
-amazing character generator that creates side view battlers, too
-side view battlers
-not having to "include RTP" - resources are all created when you make a game and you can delete what you don't use
-better looking tiles (though XP's tiles are prob better)
-amazing plugin releases that are really easy to implement
-the ability to make your project work on mobile devices

MV does have some flaws, such as the absence of the script and resource editor. Everything has to be added directly to the game's folder, and the scripts must be edited through notepad (etc).

Also, the tiles are now larger by 150%, but I guess that depends on how you feel about that. :B

MV does seem to have nice features, but better graphics can slow me (unless i keep the current type in mind) and manual scripting bugs me, but not by much.

The issue with MV right now is lack of resources. Seriously there's, like, the default SV Battlers with the brightness changed, and the DLC. And that's it. I know it's been, like, a month, but surely we'd have something new by now. Maybe a new steampunk set. Sidenote here, I noticed we have a ton of plugins, but no resources...

There's a great tutorial (http://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.php?/topic/45746-resizing-tiles-for-mv/) for resizing tiles to work in MV.

Also, there are some people working on making pieces for the character generator, something that I'd like to see more people start doing for sure.
