Title: RMRK's stance on Ripped Resources
Post by: strike on May 25, 2015, 04:01:27 PM
Rips - What they are and Should you use them?

Rips are graphical or audio assets pulled from another (usually famous) game. If you're looking to release commercially at any point you should NOT use these resources as they are owned by the original content creator, be that Square-Enix or otherwise.

RMRK Will not be DISALLOWING ripped content. However you will be required to tag them with [RIP]. That'd be super helpful, Thanks.

If you see a post that consists of ripped content that is not tagged [RIP], please report it. Reports are not for banning but for editing the Tags to reflect that the item is Ripped.

PS: Yes this is a major difference from another specific forum. Rips should be tagged as such but will not be removed unless requested by the original author. Use of rips in commercial projects is not acceptable for obvious reasons, but the responsibility is on the game creator to avoid ripped resources. In other words use ripped content at your own risk.

Very helpful thread! Thanks for sharing, strike! :D

I think it also goes without saying, but if you are using ripped content in their non-commercial game, you MUST provide credit.

I mean that really goes without saying for any resource. unless you specifically got permission to not credit it.
