-

-
that's silly you're silly
-
Oh my bad. It looks cool though.
-
I've never played Mother (or Earthbound) and I'm sorry.
-
as you should be
play mother 3
it's the best of the mothers
mother 2 is ok
-
Play Earthbound and then play Mother 3
I like Mother 3 better in a lot of ways but I also like EarthBound better in a lot of ways so you should play both
-
I remember playing a little of a friend's version on my SNES and being... confused. I would like to think I could handle it now.
I hope.
-
Earthbound is great except that the battle system is horrible and hasn't aged well at all.

I like the rolling HP meter. It can create for some very tense moments rushing to heal yourself. I think the neat backgrounds and cool music also keep it from getting stale.
But then again I'm not a very big RPG player so what do I know
Regardless I'm glad Mother 3 introduced the music rhythm combo system. It made things even more interesting. I think the best turn based battle systems incorporate some degree of real time execution.

I haven't ever played Mother 3 but that sounds pretty cool. Kinda like timed attacks from Mario & Luigi games but not really.

Yeah. It's interesting because the difficulty of comboing is determined by how rhythmically complex the battle music is. The hardest is probably this boss music (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DdEF9FlXNno) which is in 29/32. There's also this song (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRHH9DxgD6E) which is entirely based around an accelerando. One of the characters also has a move that reveals the combo rhythm (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEeAD4a6Jtw).
Unfortunately, it's not synced well when played on an emulator, so it's harder than it should be for most people who play the game. To experience it without sync issues, you have to either buy the Japanese version (the only official version) or play the English translated version on a flash cart.
But the Mother 4 fan game seems to be retaining this combo system, which should be nice.
