The article is more about an excuse Phil Plait found to talk about something interesting about astronomy. Of course the Simpsons is in America. Springfield borders Ohio, Maine, Kentucky and Nevada. Everyone knows this.

* Left and Right lane directional driving does not correlate with the equivalent used by our U.S brethren. i.e. We drive on the left lane.
* They sure as shit aren't directing a call towards any Australian number when they dial on a telephone.
* They've called 911 a few times... Which is not the emergency number we use.
* Many more reasons as to why it would be utterly inconsistent if it were in fact set in the country whose slogan is "Where the Bloody Hell are You?".


Basically it was just a cool and interesting point regarding astronomy that was mentioned. Nothing more, really.
But y'all already knew that. :)
