The series always gets better as you go further, and you're able to stand up to tougher stuff

Dark Souls is the shit, make sure you read all the item descriptions. The lore and backstory is very rich but it's also pretty ambiguous and you have to look for it.

I killed the gargoyles, but didn't know what to do next. Looked around for a while, died a bunch, then I stopped playing.
I enjoyed what I did play.

it's sad that it's become so uncommon that it's refreshing to play a game where they just sorta say "here, you figure it out bitch.  Explore a bit, I won't tell you when you've wandered into a high level area, you'll realize it soon enough. Here's how you control your character, you figure out the rest."

Maybe. I haven't played it for about a year and a half, so I have no clue what I did last.

Yesterday I learned that I had been playing Dark Souls 1.0 when I asked my friend why "Required Souls" in the level up screen didn't actually show how many souls were required and he told me that it did. I updated and enemies started dropping twice as many souls and the menu was fixed.

Also boe you should resume playing.

After placing my copy of Dark Souls into my PS3, I realized I was wrong.
I have not defeated the gargoyles. I did kill the hydra, for some reason. Does he drop anything?
Like I said, it's been like a year and a half since I played last.

I guess I'll keep throwing myself at the gargoyles until I can make them become dead.

You can summon Solaire for the fight outside the door, if you're human.

While at job corp there was a lot of time doing nothing, and I would watch other people play video game. I've seen people beat them, so I knew about SunnyD helping in that fight.
I only have one humanity, so if I do try the fight I'll have to be sure about it.

The rats underneath the bridge leading to the Undead Parish drop humanity, if you desire to respawn them using the bonfire until you have a fair amount. The gargoyles can be tough but just take them one at a time. They will focus on Solaire often enough for you to do some damage to one.

I killed the guy on the bonfire allways first, hate that arrogant guy. :D
The skeletons are pretty tough so far. The other way is way easier. ;)

After all this game is still very awesome, completed it once on X360, now I want to do the same with the Prepare To Die Edition on PC. ;) (\s/)

Also all skellies are hard to beat without blunt weapons, like a club or hammer. Don't underestimate the usefulness of maces and morning stars.

I can agree, Demon Souls and Dark Souls are very different. ;)
Even I liked the mana of Demon Souls more, but the tendencies were pretty annoying. :/
The hardest one is Dark Souls 2 for sure. You mostly die, till no enemies are alive. :D (\s/)
Title: Re: Dark Souls is ok
Post by: &&&&&&&&&&&&& on January 07, 2015, 08:54:05 AM
Decided to try again, the dude decided to jump off a cliff, for some reason.

I spend a little time grinding for stats and souls. Raised 6 stat points, and the gargoyles were far easier.
Now I just got to figure out what the hell I do next. I know I have to go down to that blight place, but I have no clue where it is.

I guess it's time to wander.

EDIT:
Some wandering later, found the Capra demon.
Also those damn ninja assholes. I hate em.

EDIT 2:
Killed Capra, and the rat dude.
Next is the gaping dragon.
shit

EDIT 2:
Killed Capra, and the rat dude.

shit

Gaping Dragon appears imposing, but it is the biggest pushover once you learn its attacks. If you have some spare humanity, there's a helpful NPC phantom right near the fog gate.

But that was the area I decided to quit my human low-level run. Some WotG jerk invaded me there, and I called it quits. I can only endure so much as every time I go through SF while human, some incontrovertible ass invades me and hides to the left of the final walkway.

Dark Souls is one of the only games I love to do horribly at. Haven't played in a while, but last I did I was dual wielding an off-hand estoc with a main-hand balder side sword. It's like a no-shield run. Forces you to learn how to dodge lol.

11/10 would die again.

Also Gaping Dragon scared the hell out of me when I first saw it. I don't do well with horror themes  :zombie:
Sun bro and lautrec are not boons during that fight either. They add more health to the boss bar than they manage to take off *facepalm*
Title: Re: Dark Souls is ok
Post by: &&&&&&&&&&&&& on January 10, 2015, 02:06:46 AM
I know, but I tried to go in without them and I got destroyed.
I couldn't dodge any of it's attacks, and it only took 3 of them to kill me.
I need them there to distract him. ;-;
Title: Re: Dark Souls is ok
Post by: SirJackRex on January 10, 2015, 06:55:51 AM
Having never done a heavy armor character, all I can say is that you gotta bail as soon as it prepares an attack. I would usually sprint away, then sprint up to a foreleg and mash away at his head. Its dash->body slam attack hits like a truck (if not kills instantly?), but iirc its path swerves very little, so you can sprint off diagonally in the direction it goes, then wait to recover stamina, then go back and attack for a few seconds. I recall the dash and stomping attacks having an annoyingly misleading range and then applying stagger/knockdown.

edit: Oh wait, I'm remembering more about this fight. I think the head takes much more damage, and if you stay near its head, it'll try to body slam, which has a longer recovery time for it. IIRC, you can bait it into doing that attack a few times in a row to get some good hits at its head.

It's honestly the most disappointing fight in the game, considering the trailer's reveal of was so damned magnificent.
Title: Re: Dark Souls is ok
Post by: &&&&&&&&&&&&& on January 10, 2015, 06:58:12 AM
I'm about to fight him again.
I'm really bad at dodging. When I try to dodge it just kinda ends with me flopping around like a dead fish, then dying like a dead fish.

EDIT:

Well shit you was right. That was a pretty damn easy fight when I removed my head from my anus.
No real point in block, so I went two-handed.
No good reason to hump the dragon, so I kept my distance.

Run away > It charged and got tired > Smack it's face > Repeat

Now I'm in blight town. Are the dudes at the beginning supposed to be so hard to kill? They're about as hard as a black knight. I don't feel they should be this tough. I think I need to do some grinding or som'tin.

EDIT 2:

Killed Quelaag. tim 4 sens fortreess

i got past them
i really don't know how
there was a lot of flailing and swinging then he died and i wasn't dead

when i got to the bonfire after that i turned human to kindle it, and of course got invaded instantly
i stay dead to stop people from invading (why the hell can't i just turn that off?) so i didn't bother actually trying to fight him
instead i just circled him for a while hoping he'd get bored and leave
when i realized i was being a dick about it, i just walked over and turned my back to him
instead of back stabbing me he stood there for a bit, dropped a titanite chunk and left

Title: Re: Dark Souls is ok
Post by: Sophist on January 20, 2015, 04:49:51 PM
I wouldn't say it's ruined, not at all. Sure, an invasion may be at a really shitty time and you lose a lot of souls, but it's an integral and understandable part of the game. There's a point in Demon's Souls in which you either have to be invaded, or invade someone else, to progress. Playing offline means you fight an AI spirit, which can still wreck your world.

You can lose your souls to any enemy, and so there's not much to argue against that for invaders. Other than that, and the rare hacking/lagging backstab, fighting invaders can be fun and nerve-wracking. It's another player, so they are unpredictable at best, but often enough you can win as much as you lose. Once you reach the point of invading someone, you'll know how it is.

i'm kind of opposed in general to personal progress being hindered by other people's involvement in an otherwise single-player game

it seems unfair that i should be penalised for being bested by someone who might've played the game for much longer than me when i just want to play by myself

There's more pics if you click ^

That's my cleric that I'm farthest with on the PC version. I have a swordsman on PS3 that's a decent bit further. The cleric has like 3 healing spells with 8 total uses and another 8 estus flasks on top of that so as long as you take it slow it's pretty hard to die. Having a heavier shield is useful too and the mace smashes through armor and zaps flesh so you never have to worry about not doing damage. Let me tell you, it's a boring fucking build.
