Title: Final Fantasy XV
Post by: Arrow on September 18, 2014, 06:06:43 AM
Okay so I had tuned out on this one for a long time, but I was browsing the internet today and stumbled across a promo...

... and it looks...

...really fucking good?

I rarely get legit excited for a game, but this shit just looks FUN.

If anything, I hope it's not as bad as 13.

Except that it IS actually 13. It's XIII Versus that got delayed so long that they're slapping XV onto it instead.

I think they kind of did away with that idea on purpose rather than to cover up delays. It was early in the development cycle, and although it is dragging now, it's been a while since they were referring to it as Versus.

It looks like Kingdom Hearts meets Xenoblade Chronicles. At least that means it'll be better than all the Final Fantasy 13s by default.

I was never able to bring myself to finish it, but I kinda enjoyed 13 to a degree- this is likely because I've only played a few FFs, and I tend to look at them a little differently than fans that have been with the series since the onset... I guess. I also enjoyed 12.

The battles in 15 just look so organic, and everything looks really alive. That scene with the Garula(s) is sticking in my mind.

Tabata's also in pursuit of a Final Fantasy that's not as overwhelming as its predecessors, and one that can be enjoyed by a broader audience. "With Final Fantasy 15, I do want to make it more casual," he says. "Of course the depth of the game is going to be there, but I want to make it so players can easily experience the satisfaction of the depth of the game." There's an option to set that car to drive itself, allowing players to sit back and take in the sights - although there is also an option to drive it manually, should they want to engage more fully with the world.

"Another example is in the combat," explains Tabata. "With the hardware specifications of the newer consoles, it's possible to set it up so you have different enemies and different choices of attacks you can enter in, but I want to simplify that. It'll basically be a one-button action, and the AI intuitively outputs an action that kind of satisfies, gives you that instant gratification, and it connects with the simple touch of a button. I myself am not getting any younger. I don't want to be frantically pushing buttons. I also want to utilise the intelligence of the hardware spec, and not have to go through too much hassle or trouble in order to execute moves."

Here we go with that FF13 auto-battle bullshit. But this time it's even worse. It's the illusion of playing the game while the CPU just does everything. Boy, I can't wait to watch a game play itself! It does seem like it's optional though, so at least there's some sliver of hope. But I doubt the battles will actually even be entertaining even without auto-battle. It's like they haven't learned anything from all the backlash on the FF13 series, or they know and they're just hoping the graphics will save them.

tabata is infamous for taking franchises and shitting out bad side-stories (crisis core(arguable),3rd birthday, type 0). everyone should have run for the hills once they saw his name slapped on the project
