The first time since HG/SS (and before that, FR/LG) I was legitimately excited about a new Pokemon release. I was wondering what the hell they were going to do about names, because I think they may have exhausted their original supply. Any ideas on what they'll call the inevitable third game in this generation (lol)?

I'm really looking forward to this, but really, fucking remake Yellow. Seriously. Why have they not done this? Gah.

Also we need more Snap. And Pinball. Gosh, Nintendo. Get it together.

This is a giant goddamned leap in the right direction though. Plus they still haven't mentioned the usual home console spinoff series.

I haven't beaten a Pokemon since emerald/ruby/sapphire. I owned a DS for a while, before the top screen broke... but it looks like I may be buying a 3DS for this.

Pokemon has been doing such a great job since Pokemon Black and White was released, really happy to see this. At the same time I think I'd be a lot more excited about a console Pokemon game... a proper one; my favourite Pokemon games were Colosseum and XD & I'd love to see that make a comeback (Pokemon Revolution was far too lacking in any form of freedom besides battling). :)

X and Y being based on chromosomes sounds reasonable, though. Sounds to me a bit like male and female versions.

Either that, or they are getting really stuck for names.

It's on the 3DS and there's the X, Y, and Z axis in a 3D plane. Makes sense to me.

New starters are nice but the legendaries are shit as always. And I wonder why they're not adding free movement with the introduction of full 3D. Looks a bit hokey how the dude can still only walk in straight lines and turn in right angles.

Kinda burnt out on the series after BW2 so I'm not all that pumped for these games. The new, cool stuff they did with B/W already felt pretty tired in the sequels so I dunno. I don't know what they could do to freshen up the series again.

Yes. If it is a gender reference, then the special edition could be XY or XX, or however genes work.

Or someone could make a hack of the game that makes everything ridiculous and broken and they could call it 21 21 21.

That actually makes more sense. It's usual for them to release 2 versions, and later a 3rd with the new mascot. It's not an exact formula, but it does make sense.

I'd just hope TDS isn't right, and we're not going to be screaming "Goku! I choose you!" at the screen.

Also,

Thanks!

But everyone was expecting Grey, and we got Black/White 2.

So while X/Y/Z would make sense, the titles hint to it being about DNA/Chrosomes (did you see the dna strands on the logos?) amd Gamefreak/Nintendo are clearly trying to buck the trends they've set.

Its definitely a good time to get it. Once this comes out I can imagine game stores hiking up the price of the 3DS to cash in on all the people that didn't get one before the games are released.

Is it pronounced "Zerneas" or "Kserneas"?
Title: Re: Pokemon X and Y
Post by: LoganF on January 10, 2013, 01:00:57 AM
Usually, the "X" is pronounced as a "Z" sound (like in xylophone or xenophobia), but in this case only time will tell.

It depends on if they want the letters they are using for the version to be attached to the sound of the Pokemon themselves. If so, then you'd have "EX-erneas" and "WHY-veltal". Otherwise you'll likely have "Z-erneas" and "E-veltal".

I can see either being possible really. Be interesting to know the name etymology. I always enjoy reading those.

MGS3 on 3DS is pretty bad, so beware of that.

Its definitely a good time to get it. Once this comes out I can imagine game stores hiking up the price of the 3DS to cash in on all the people that didn't get one before the games are released.
If a store hiked up prices that would just annoy people and have them look for a place which doesn't do stupid things, which is the easiest thing in the world to do these days. And prices weren't hiked up for 3D Land, Mario Kart 7 or New Super Mario Bros 2. so it won't happen with Pokemon. At most they'll just not run any sales at its release.

Nintendo very super highly likely wants the install base of the 3DS to explode so future Pokemon games sell out the ass.

I'm tired of your shit Pokemon. Stop adding to the roster guys, there's just too many and the legendary's are sort of ridiculous now.

I think this is gonna be one of those games that's great but in a terrible way. If they could, wiping the entire Pokemon slate and starting fresh would be great. Or even just making a non canon game that only keeps certain legendary's and doesn't have a roster that's nearing the 1000 mark :L Something new would be nice. . . Like the ability to actively control your Pokemon during a battle instead of just giving them commands :c

At least we got 20 free games for buying it early, even though I only liked 3 of them, but I finally got to play a Fire Emblem game which has helped me a lot when designing tactical battle system scripts (Even though there seems to always be that one character who dies the exact same way no matter what the battle).

Pokemon X and Y
Special Editions: XX and XY

In Pokemon XX and XY, each has a new legendary that can only be caught in that game.

XX has the male Pokemon Nobukazu
XY has the female Pokemon Furusawa

Trade either Pokemon to the other cart, and breed them to get the all powerful Hatakeyama!

(Note on the side: XX=Female XY=Male. I was going off that (Like in Gold and Silver) you catch the opposite Pokemon.)

Actually, I did invest in some Pokemon stuff years ago. One of my neices had a liking for it, and I thought it would be the cool uncle thing to do to get her the cards and play the game with her. Unfortunately, she has FAS and didn't have the cognitive tools required to play, but she did dig all those cards.

It's about time they did 3d. God, I've been waiting forever. I'm a bit suspicious though. I don't like to get my expectations up. X,Y is probably a limited gimmick, if it has to do with dna.

WHy don't they just do a sandbox pokemon game? You know, with real-time encounters? Also, exploration would kick ass. I can just see it now, wandering through the forested crevice between two high mountains (Which incidentally you can climb.) Searching for a safe corner away from wild pokemon  :zwink: for the night.

You come across an oasis in the midst of jungle wilderness, a small pond, with a small family of vaporeons, hidden away from the careless travelers eye. But not you, you diligent explore, you're about to destroy the family by fainting the vaporeons and stealing their baby Eevee.  ::)

I do get annoyed when they release a new generation of Pokémon though. Not because I'm a purist, but because it means that's another 100+ Pokémon I've got to store in my PC, plus any duplicate legendaries I get. THE BOXES AREN'T BIG ENOUGH AS IT IS :_;

I loved Pokemon X so much, I cried like a baby at the end and it was an amazing game. I wasn't really into pokemon that much before (I played yellow at 16 and emerald and a few others much later) but this game. It was so great I can't even describe.

It's a lot of fun. I played through alpha sapphire during christmas, and even though it was good, it's nice to see a game that was actually created with the 3d aspect in mind from the start.

Also I am a dumb girl that loves playing dress up. .__.
