Title: [Music] My Music Composed in 2013
Post by: Irock on January 01, 2013, 07:47:30 PM
My new years resolution is to finish the games I start and to improve the quality of all my art. So I thought I'd give the music I write this year its own thread.

I'm going to start out by completely defying the intention of this thread by posting two songs that were written in the final week or so of 2012. I don't play by the rules, even if I made them. :coolcat:

Feedback is more than appreciated.

You can download the tracks individually and easily here (http://corymartin.net/music/misc/2013/).

A Perfect Moon
Posted: January 1st
Listen on Soundcloud (https://soundcloud.com/kcori/a-perfect-moon)

A calm emotional piece about the moon at night time
or something.

Isaiah's Last Stand
Posted: January 1st
Listen on Soundcloud (https://soundcloud.com/kcori/isaiahs-last-stand)

An experimental mix of electronic, arabic and somethin'
else. This actually started out as a simple chipmusic title
theme for a small action-adventure game I'm working on,
but quickly turned into something unusable but worth
continuing.

A perfect moon Sounds kind of sad, But also calming, It's very good in my opinion.

Isaiah's Last Stand Sounds like it's trying to hypnotize me, none the less, It would fit well in both Modern or Classic Rpgs. It is very good in my opinion too.

I've already told you what I think of these. A Perfect Moon is my favorite thing you've written. Isaiah's Last Stand isn't exactly my thing, but it is pretty cool and well done. I look forward to hearing more!

A Perfect Moon seems to be the more popular of the two.

Thanks for posting. :)

I do like A Perfect Moon more than the other, overall. It comes across to me like a bit of a story that starts of quite sad but later becomes a bit more optimistic. I can definitely picture sequences where that kind of music would fit.

I'm not sure I like the chiptune part of Isaiah's Last Stand. I've always liked Arabianesque music (similar to how I like the Far Eastern sound too). From around 30s into it (after the chiptune) up until around 3:30 is probably my favourite part of that one. It gets a bit repetitive and boring after that point, and I ended up backing it up to 30s again. When I hear it I picture the opening credits of some action film or something.

Thanks for the comments.

In Isaiah's Last Stand, I was going for a specific style of extended outro where it repeats a part while frequently altering and building on it, constantly increasing in intensity. I think I barely build, vary or increase the intensity of mine at all, which is why it comes off as repetitive and boring. It's a good learning experience though.

Here are two songs that do it incredibly well and served as my inspiration:
Of Moons, Birds & Monsters (http://youtu.be/v6HXS11l4sw?t=2m24s)
Scarred (http://youtu.be/G6SjyRLKy70?t=9m22s)

Same as others I like Perfect Moon better, reason is because I can imagine scenes with it.
Isaiah's Last Stand doesn't quite have that effect on me, I can definitely say I bobbed my head a little listening to it :blizj:

Sounding good! (I liked Isaiah's Last Stand) But really the two are so different, I wouldn't say what I liked better. Each one has it's own unique purpose. Ex: Issiah's Theme could be used for a Cave Story Boss Intro cinematic while perfect moon is more suitable for the traditional storytelling themes.

Either way, keep it up! :)
