Title: Reporting and Ignoring
Post by: Zylos on February 05, 2011, 06:20:20 AM
There's been a lot of drama going around lately, so I'd like to quickly point out two obvious but seemingly seldom-used important features on RMRK as a "gentle reminder".

Firstly, do you see the little exclamation point near the quote button above posts? This is the report button. RMRK's staff list may be long, but it's just not possible for the moderators to be able to scour every thread and pick up on every instance. That's why the staff rely on regular members to help point out where there's a problem or arising trouble. Reporting a post will send out an email to all staff members, giving them your name, a description of the problem, and a link to the exact post.

So if you spot a spambot on the loose, someone double or triple posting everywhere, unwarranted flaming or trolling, or even a case of mod abuse (administrators receive the reports too) or other such problems, try clicking the report button and letting the staff know. Don't just give the person a negative rep point and lash out at them, that tends to only escalate issues. Be warned though that abusing the report feature as a prank won't be tolerated. Your name and email is sent along with the report, and I'm sure the mods won't hesitate to give you a temporary ban if you pull a false alarm as a joke.

Secondly, RMRK has featured an Ignore system ever since the upgrade last year. If you know there's someone you've got issues with, you can put them on your ignore list so that all of that particular member's posts will be hidden for you, as if the entire post was put in spoiler tags. This way, you won't ever have to deal with whoever is causing you problems unless you specifically wish to. The buddies / ignore lists can be edited in your profile, right underneath all of the other profile options. Simply click on your list and type in the name of the member you wish to ignore.

Again, these are but two simple, obvious features that have been in place for ages, but using them a bit more would help a good bit in dousing the flames of drama in the future.

I wonder how many prank reports the mods are gonna get on this topic...

If there are, there should be a light ban for the user abusing a feature that's supposed to be serious :I

I'd do it without a second thought, just to be clear.

I've already banned two people who did this today.
Completely serious.

You can ban as a global mod? Nice. Anyways, I figure a 1 day ban would be sufficient unless otherwise I suppose.

What people actually abuse report systems? I've never had a rogue report in like, six years of modding various sites

Don't mean that as gloating but huh

I rarely even check reports since if they are reported it's just a dumb mistake or somebody raging over stupid things.

He still thinks I'm a global mod and this isn't just a badge.

Not that I'd know. I don't really care who is what or what badge you have and I'm far too lazy to check moderation for what member groups you're apart of.
