History
Spoiler for:
Grace of Vil takes place in a fictional time and place. The world is separated into 9 continents, Elevan, Roiko Isle, Sindel, Okeer, Thale, Black Isle, Passil, Baggart and New Angel City. In its core is The Eye of the Storm, a ravaged, demon sanctuary. There stands the dormant Great Gate, a rift between Earth, Paradise and the Abyss. In this world there are beings called Saints, these are humans (or elves) that have been granted the powers of a god. There are many mysteries in this land, mysteries whose truths could change the world.

Story
For years, Roiko Isle's citizens have lived safe and calm. Ruled by no one, all of its people knew one another and were very friendly. A young man named Hiromu lives there with his mother and sister, along with his best friend, Elissa, a self taught Cleric. Little did they know that everything they had known about their world was going to change. Hiromu's sister is kidnapped throwing him into a dangerous journey to find her and the man responsible. He'll need more than just Elissa to take on what's ahead you'll need a large party to fight off an enemy capable of destroying the world.

Characters (Including 1st 3 Party Members)

His combat class is Traveler, due to his inexperience with combat, his skills are based on chance. Example Skill: Chance! "Deal Base Damage + 50SkillDamage (70% Chance).

She's a self taught cleric who excels in healing but has very little knowledge of offense holy skills. Her combat class is Cleric, she is the healer of the group and a necessity in battle. Example Skill: Snap Heal "Use little mana to heal for a 50HP" (Better Spells come later)

Spoiler for:
Common, Uncommon, Lite Rare, Rare, Legendary. The final is Godlike and Demonic; there are no Godlike or Demonic archetypes for armor, only for weapons. Both are the same in terms of damage capabilities (Godlike and Demonic). Their difference is that one has the Holy Element and one has Darkness Element. There are both Godlike and Demonic weapons for each weapon type (shortsword, longsword, 1h axe, 2h axe, 2h blade, staff, rod, mace, bow and claws). Besides from that I've already made 113 weapons so far, many are high rare drops and can be gotten at lower levels if you're lucky, there are a lot of weapons and armor to make the game seem open worldish and a bit similar to an offline mmo.

Okay, you've done a good job. The maps are very good, I'm enjoying the characters and the plot is self-driven and compelling. However, I found a fatal error in you game, and it's right at the start of the game.

When I sleep in my bed at my home, Elissa appears to tell me that my sister is missing. However, when I go to Elissa's house, my sister is sleeping on the bed. Also, I sleep in my bed again and Elissa appears to tell me that my sister is missing... again. That's as far as I've played, so I suggest fixing that before advertising this elsewhere. Some self-switch work could easily fix this up. I also suggest crediting Cozziekuns for the Earthbound battle system.

Good game though - AP.

Oh, that's terrible. I'll fix it right now.

EDIT: The demo will be reuploaded in a bit. I've made a few modifications to the game, such as balancing weapons and armor, enemy strength and fixed up the mana requirements for the spells. Oh, and that problem has been eradicated, thanks for the feedback.

It's not Cozziekun's. It's TDS' Final Fantasy Magic Quest Battle System.

There is so much to do in your game. There are so many things to do that I forgot the main plot and how to actually get forward in the game. I like your idea of several big continent maps strung together, as opossed to the general overworld map you see oh so often. I hope you fixed that bug I found, and I  can only wish that you'll enjoy my demo as much as I enjoyed yours. It's up, if you didn't know.
AP, or HP. (until the moderator who changed it changes it back. no idea who it was.)
EDIT: Found yet another bug (it's what I do), in the first really big city (the name of which escapes me). When I view the map from the poster or the map girl (I forget, sorry), there's no way of closing it. So, conditional branch error? Negligence on my part? Have a look at it.

I'm glad that's what you do. I'll look into that when the sun comes up :). And thanks for the positive feedback yet again! I didn't know your demo was up, I just remember there being a problem with it. I'll have two things to do then.

Glad I could help!  ;D Modern Algebra came up with a solution to my problems. It should work. I'll download a newer verison of your game as soon as I can. Give me feedback as I gave you. Expect bugs. Lots.

Demo #2 Possibly going to be pulled back for a few more days after its planned release (Feb. 5). I've been pretty busy and on top of that I've been editing character stats and starter weapons, little did I know when I change that kind of stuff in the database it won't be placed into a savegame I already have, so now I'll be replaying my already 3 hour demo (creator playthrough time) just so I can get back to where I once was because I have to start the game over for the edited settings to appear. Character stuff has been pretty annoying. I've been getting frustrated balancing enemies with the player. Right now it's very easy since you get a lot of money quickly, so I have to edit that as well. SOOOO It will most like be postponed for a while longer than I had planned.

Started downloading, seems interesting so far in the description.

Also found the bug reported earlier, the map won't close.

Geez, it works fine for me though. I can't replace the demo at this point since I'm beginning the second one. I think I'm going to remove the demo and when the Second one is done, it'll essentially be the first. Because no one likes bugs.

I like bugs. They give me something to work on so I can procrastinate actually progressing on my project. It's probably just an ill-made conditional branch in your case though.
In case you didn't know, Night Portal's demo V1.2 is up, fixed your bug and a couple others i found on my own.

So does it work or are you just gonna up another one? Looks pretty fun.

So does it work or are you just gonna up another one? Looks pretty fun.
(I love how the main characters name is Hiromu btw).
I think you should wait for the second demo. I'm probably going to take it down tomorrow, I'm working as much as I can on part 2, so this might be quite the waste to play the whole beginning over to get to the added continent. And that's a beast name.

GoV Demo 2 - Release Date Set for February 11th. (For this I am certain)

I've been putting in a bit more things into the game with the time I have to do so. I've got school, and a Rift (Planes of Telara) beta to worry about which makes my time a bit scarce.

A Few More Additions:
- Housing System is Introduced
*House comes with a bed of course, because Inns are for homeless people.
*A Player Piano to play some snazzy tunes.
*Depending on the House (size/price mainly) you'll get bonuses, Such as>
               *A Training Dummy
*An Indoor Bar (Hiromu can't use it though, he's too young)
               *Item Storage
-I've added 4 more quests to the 10 I had posted previously and the 4 currently in demo 1, meaning that when Demo 2 comes out, the game will have 18 Sidequests. But I do believe I will come up with something, and that number shall definitely rise as my ideas do before the demo is released.

The Future
Spoiler for:
There will be one more demo after this, it will not give up any more of the story, it will instead give you a greater understanding of the game's progression, there will not be much to do in the Final Demo, you will be given a preview of 3 unknown characters, and will be able to recruit them to your party, fight a boss and view firsthand the power of a Godlike/Demonic weapon.

Another Update (Kind of Big)

Additions:
-Roiko Caverns
*A small cavernous dungeon within the mountains of Roiko Isle. It is discovered by a quest, the creatures are being called Entities, (my tactic of making 'ghost' sound cooler). A little secret that I don't mind spoiling about the cave is a little weapon called the Glistening Longsword. It has a Droprate of 0.02 off of these Entities and it's very much worth it to pick up this weapon as it is fairly strong and deals holy damage. I recommend having Ven before grinding for that weapon, it may take a while if you are unlucky (like me).

-The Elyias Garden
*An elven settlement to the west of the Okeer Capital. It is home to the annual Elyias Memorial Festival which celebrates the lives of the ancient Elyias Elves that populated Okeer (then called Baveria) when it was mainly forest. After the humans settled there, the Okeer Empire emerged and took control of the land, leaving the Elyias Garden as the only piece of land the elves can call home.
-Weapons/Armor
*I've added in 11 new weapons into the mix. So, at this time, there will be 55 usable weapons for your three current characters (Hiromu, Elissa and Ven). In the Database I currently have 112 weapons. There hasn't been an overhaul of armor as of yet, I have 67 pieces in total which can all be used in Demo number 2.

-Quests
*I've added 3 more quests to the 18, so I now have 21. I plan on increasing this number before release. I want to have 26 by then. If dungeons count as well, then I'd like 30.

-Patching
      * The monsters have been made stronger or weaker depending on what I thought of them. In demo 1 money was given out like rice in china (joke), now I've edited the amount of money that enemies dropped so you actually have to work for the gear that vendors sold. And speaking of vendors, they've been moved around a bit and prices have also been increased to make battle a necessity, and also add more challenge to the game. Weapons have been weakened by means of shop items, and that means a longsword won't have 5 more attack than a shortsword, I made the increase more gradual so that some weapons are skipped and money is to be used more smart. Along with that since there are more weapons in the game, many monsters will drop some if you can't afford things, so for those who enjoy grinding (i hate it) then go ahead and get some nice gear.

-Scripts
*TDS' Item Hit Rating Script that I requested, and he had it whipped up in a jiffy. Thanks again for that.

And Again: GoV Demo 2 - Release Date Set for February 11th.

I recommend waiting for that rather than downloading Demo 1  :zwink:

Lol, I've been in it for 4 hours now, I think I should have cut it off a bit earlier but I got too wrapped up in it and started adding too much, now I'm just going to finish the continent and that'll be it. I'd say it'll play for maybe 5-6 hours possibly if you were to do everything (quests, dungeons, weapons, armor). This game is most definitely going to take a while, I'm not sure if im going to make any sequels anymore since this is cutting into my 3d modeling training.

I'm getting rid of Demo Number One right now so that if anyone plays they'll play the better one instead.  ;8

6 hours?? Well, I'm gonna have stuff to do in my dorm instead of watching Law and Order and playin basketball all day. Yea, working on my game is cutting into my programming lol. Well, since the release date is set for tomorrow, we shall see. (good timing, it's the weekend)

Demo Number Two is complete, internet is being pretty slow so Megaupload is as well. It will be up in a bit, in the mean time I'll be playing Dragon Age.

BTW, the Demo has a lot of stuff to offer, I'm not going to resume production on the game for a weak so that I can patch the demo if anything is reported and the demo won't reveal anything I've been working on after its release. I will post again when the demo has been added.

Problems (I've Found):
*Every Interior of the Okeer Capital retains the fog overlay of the extrior :(
*A shield (The Solar Guard) acquired from a quest is ridiculously overpowered.

EDIT2:

Well, it seems something has been terrible missed. I have to reupload the game since I've missed something: the switch used to keep the Goblin's Lair dungeon replayable was left on when it is supposed to turn off when you exit the dungeon. So, sorry for this although it makes the game much more enjoyable, also the other problems will have been fixed so I believe it's worth it now.

EDIT3:

Demo has been fixed and reuploaded without the above problems.

So as of now, the game hasn't progressed by means of plot and mapping additions at all, and the final demo (3) is definitely going to be held off for a while. Saying that, I'm not saying that the game is not being worked on, I fix it up every day. At the moment, gameplay is my only problem, it becomes overly easy if you are to acquire specific items for example: Glistening Longsword, or Trundil's Hatchet - they make enemies very easy to defeat. So pretty much what I'm saying is that the game is super easy, and what I'm doing now is balancing skills, stats and what not so that the vast amount of items in the game actually have a use. I never died in this game as money drops heavily, items are cheap and battles are quick, when the game has been patched up and actually has difficulty, I shall make everyone aware and continue. :zwink:

The difficulty problem has been fixed in a shorter amount of time than I had expected, I had quite a bit of time to fix it up too. I might patch up the demo version to see if it actually adds a bit of difficulty to the game.. I'll fix it tomorrow. So since I've gotten into production once again, here's a screenshot of the new continent "Passil"

(https://rmrk.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg696.imageshack.us%2Fimg696%2F4379%2Fpassil.jpg&hash=82a911081bc632584d42c662e327eda6f56e7a57) (http://img696.imageshack.us/i/passil.jpg/)

Not much updating on my part for this game. But I'm currently making Demo Number 3. I've changed it up a bit so it won't really be what I had planned for it to be in one of my previous posts. This will indeed be the final demo for Grace of Vil, I will continue posting screenshots and updating the game's process though.

The Demo (Description):
Demo #3 is going to be placed on the continent of Sindel. You'll be allied with various side party members, as not to ruin story by allowing you to play with the storybased party members. You'll be playing through the 'Peak Grotto' dungeon in Sindel. Initially you'll be able to form your squad of 4, you'll have 7 characters to choose from, including Ven, Claire and Elissa. You'll be running this dungeon in its entirety in the demo and in the end will be given a glimpse at one of the game's Ultimate Weapons; The Holy 1-Hand Axe - "Heartsmite"

The demo will be up in due time, I'm not giving any set dates as of now. AND ALSO! I'm working on the title screen at the moment, because mine is a plain one which was just something to have simply to have a titlescreen...

Your game i good but there is no BGM in some of the buildings I am not sure if you did that on purpose and also I thing the battles occur to often and it is annoying I don't mind random encounters but it is slightly overkill. Other than those two points the game is great
Title: Re: [VX] Grace of Vil

It's Spring Break for me as of now, and I've been able to get a lot done over this time. Instead of swiftly moving forward in terms of getting the Basics down for every location, I've been adding tons of content into the older places and the places I've previously completed, such as Passil, the sandy continent. Instead of having 2 dungeons in Passil, I've created 3 more to go along with them. These 3 aren't as large in size and do not have bosses, they can be repeated numerous times as the enemies there are stronger than normal ones and grant more exp. Though, chests within these dungeons do not respawn. Many skills have been scrapped and edited from the demos out now, and enemies are definitely tougher.

Heads up to those (if any) downloading the newly uploaded RTP version, I did it pretty late, so you'll have all of these updates in difficulty and skill distribution, while the non-RTP (old) will have the weaker enemies. I may make both the same eventually, but as of now I see no reason to do so. Demo 3 is still on its way, though I can say I've done absolutely nothing in terms of its production. So please, try the game out and tell me what you think.

Watch the gameplay videos linked in the main post if screenshots are too lame.

Ugh, it would seem that Demo 3 is taking yet another switcheroo. It will no longer take place in the 'Peak Grotto' dungeon, I'm going to build up a dungeon specifically for the demo so that nothing is ruined storywise and what not. This will also bring the Demo out much quicker as I'd rather not build a continent that I've yet to even get near to storywise just for the demo. So, yeah, the demo is going to be coming a bit quicker since I'm making this special. Still, I'm going to allow you to choose from more than one party member squad and the dungeon will have a special boss.

Expect the Final Demo next week. Also, here's a sneak peek at a character!

Spoiler for:

The story behind Amber's witchcraft cannot be accessed easily. Only those willing to delve into her 'Dark Mind' may learn the truth. Her skills are of mainly based on dark magic and debuffing, but she also holds elemental spells. Example Skill: "Death Scythe" Slash across the battlefield dealing Slash+Dark damage to all enemies.

I had a lot of time, so I actually finished the demo today. This is the Final Demo for Grace of Vil, but I will still be updating the page with screenshots, videos and details on the game's progression.

The demo is standalone from the actual Grace of Vil game, so expect a much smaller download size. I suggest playing through the game more than once, (if you had fun the first time around) because there are alternate conversations based on your party, and characters have various playstyles which could put a lot of variety into gameplay. If you decide to try the game, be ready for a fight... And a joke or two.

... The point of having a non-RTP version is that people who already have the RTP don't have to re-download the RTP. If you don't have it, get it.

Uh
Whatever demo was in the first post and said "story"

I'm too busy playing it to check

ALSO I found a bug

I was fighting the bandits who stole from the merchant early on, I used an oil pot to see what it does, and it said BANDIT A IS FLAMMABLE for the rest of teh battle, including after he died.

If i'm not playing the final demo and you fixed this, sorry if i'm looking like an idiot.

Also, I saw oblivion references.

Yeah, the states are kinda being annoying. Usually the enemy would die and if it had a state on it, it'd come right back but be unattackable. It's a dumb error, I'm trying to get it fixed, but as of now it isn't. You're playing the first demo, the final demo doesn't have the error, but only because there is no way of it appearing, it's still a problem though. I hope you can overlook that problem :) - Oh, and I use a lot of Oblivion references, along with a bunch of other games. 8)

Being really picky here, trying to find errors now. It is proving quite difficult.

The following mapping error takes place slightly north of Bale Village in Southern Elevan.
Also, I think it's kinda weird that after her daughter's been kidnapped all my mother has to say is "Hi Hiromu." You'd think she'd be a bit more hysterical.
Title: Re: [VX] Grace of Vil
Post by: hiromu656 on April 11, 2011, 10:11:45 PM
Yeah, I caught that, I just forgot to update the game after fixing it. And with the mom saying "Hi Hiromu" she doesn't really know yet that her daughter is gone - which I should have had Elissa say, but after the nighttime section is done, and you're going to leave, if you go talk to her, she'd instead say "Be safe, Hiromu." Not, the most appropriate thing to say either, but I wanted the mom to sound optimistic.

Just got 1000 views, (yeah this isn't youtube) so I thought an update was more than necessary... and I haven't updated in a while.

UPDATE:
Currently, I've put the finishing touches (I hope) on the Passil continent along with the super story dungeon that you have to run to move on. At this point I will be getting to work on the 5th continent you'll be exploring, Black Isle (which is a referrence to one of my favorite rpgs, Icewind Dale). I don't want to give too much away there, but I will say that at this point you have the chance of finding 3 more party members. I've got two dungeons planned out for their as well: 'Vicious' and 'Etelin' - the dungeons now will be much larger in size and length (possible bosses) and the difficulty will be upped quite a bit from now on. Right now I've decided to create 3 more characters to add to the count of possible party members, so you can have fun switching things up to get your perfect party. (Main Post has been Update) - I'm going to be adding a few more screenshots soon as well. I hope someone out there has tried out the Demo 3, which is found on the Main Topic listed as the 'Non-Story Demo' it's a nice peek at some characters and gives you a good feel of the game in a much smaller size. So stick around for some more updates as well, because I'm trying to get this game complete before November... because when Skyrim hits shelves, I probably won't be back for a while. Just sayin

Thanks for the support guys, I've put 10 new screenshots into the main post now. I plan on making a commentated walkthrough of the first 30 minutes of the game and slapping a link here, but I'm not sure yet. I wish I could put more demos... or at least made the first demo a bit shorter, because I've added a ton of new content but I'm not sure If I should give up anymore of the core storyline. I suppose I could make another demo without story and build up another dungeon from scratch, but I'm not so sure about doing that either. My mind is wandering I can't find it.. (bandana round my head.. blah blah)

I suppose I've been moved. Nevertheless, here is what I wanted to put up.
(https://rmrk.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg861.imageshack.us%2Fimg861%2F2034%2Fblackislescreeny.jpg&hash=e3ede6c1e878dec02c39e22aedf836a6803baca6) (http://img861.imageshack.us/i/blackislescreeny.jpg/)
A little (not really) screenshot of Black Isle, the 5th explorable continent for the game. It looks kinda weird since I stretched it a bit, as it was very small because I had to zoom out to show the entire map. You may be saying, aw man, more green.. But wait! Use your imagination and vision this place a bit darker, raining and with some fancy music overlayed.
Alright, so what's puts this apart from other continents is its lore. Pretty much, Black Isle was once inhabited by water spirits, when the Sahagins invaded, they hunted each spirit until there remained only one. The Sahagin Lord approached the Final Spirit and tore out its soul, when the spirit died, the land remained in a state of endless rain. The twist is that the rain never built up. As it hit the ground, it would evaporate. With the Soul of a water spirit in hand, the Sahagin Lord had the powerful item sealed within himself, granting him the amazing powers and increasing his life span. 200 years later, the Okeer Army took swarmed the land in hopes of expansion. The soldiers quickly sweeped through waves of Sahagin that lived on the island. Threatened with extinction, the Sahagins of Black Isle moved to the Sewers where they are believed to remain today. No word has been said about the state of the Sahagin Lord.

Yeah, that's it. Now, to the updates. I think I'm going to update the download finally. I've done a lot of work balancing skills, enemy difficulty and your overall strength. I've created 50 new weapons and 47 new pieces of armor. Black Isle will come with 3 dungeons: The Sewers (ooh lala), Viscious, and Etelin.

Next week I'll be showing another character. Just for kicks.

EDIT: Decided to Spoil the rest of the Black Isle story.
> The Sahagin Lord, remained the only Sahagin left on Black Isle. With his numbers gone, he resorted to the mind controlling of the Lizardmen. With his newfound powers from the Water Spirit's Soul, he trained the Lizardmen to think and act like Sahagin under his control, becoming his new army of Artificial Sahagin.

Well, it was my birthday yesterday, so I didn't do much with the game, not that I do things every day, but yesterday I didn't really use a computer, but here goes an Update.

> To start things off, I've been doing quite a bit in terms of adding more story based missions into the game, most of the time you would be running around freely with that story quest sitting around on your list of things to do, so now I've tried to increase the value of these story missions, so to speak. I've added more necessary steps to progressing to new continents, making a more lengthy experience (if that's cool). I've been doing a lot of editing with enemies, mainly making them stronger, but having less health (not including bosses), I've added 2 more possible party members, so you can now acquire a total of 18 special characters. I've decreased the price of potions (HP and MP) and increased the price of Revival Scrolls (Antenecros).
My next quest will probably be me changing the introduction to the game, it wasn't really said (which is unfortunate) but I feel that the opening doesn't give much backstory on the character, I'll probably follow the generic intro route and give you a start up quest like shopping for some food, it's much better (to me) than having nothing at all.

Here's a Character!

Introducing Gray, he is a werewolf. I know what you're thinking, he doesn't look like one, but don't worry about that, he's in his human form. I don't want to give much up about how he became a werewolf and his quest chain, but let's just say it's interesting. Example Skill: 'Bestial Rage' - Increase ATK to 200%, Decrease DEF to 50%, for 3 (subject to change) turns.

Awesome stuff. Merry birthday, also.
I'm loving the progress on this game, it's shaping up to be one hell of a play.

Reading the above comment, I feel kinda crappy for doing this but:

Because of my time restraints (Baseball, Football practice, school, sleeping and other annoying stuff) I am going to put the game on hold. I am though going to now create the game I had been planning to create after Grace of Vil. I feel like I won't be able to finish Grace of Vil in the time I'd like, but I will be able to finish the game I have planned now. I'm sorry if anyone actually was waiting for this game, but it wouldn't have been done for quite a long time, and right now, one of my goals is to one finish a full rpg maker game, and second is to pretty much use my free time mostly for practicing up on 3d modeling/animation (which I plan on doing as a career). During this time, though, I will be working on Grace of Vil on and off, I just want to put at least the slightest mark on the RMRK community before I become absent for a while.

So, is there a way to retrieve a game from the Abandoned Projects?

I'll move it. If you ever want to revive it, then please just PM me or another moderator and we will move it back for you.
