Title: RMRK April Updates
Post by: Roph on March 31, 2010, 06:03:29 PM
Hello everyone!  :blizj:

[edit] If everything looks all white and 1995ish to you, this means your browser is still using outdated cached CSS/JS. Just press Ctrl+F5 (and/or clear your cookies from RMRK) and all will be well again :)

First off, RMRK has had a theme update. You're probably reading this and wondering what's changed (if you're reading this at the main site, you'd be better off viewing it at the forum here (http://rmrk.net/index.php/topic,37962.0.html)), so you should direct your attention to the "switch" area above the sidebar:

(https://rmrk.net/src/news/10/dark.png)
":mayo:" - LadyJules

"RMRK2 Dark" was always a popular theme (it was even the forum default for quite a while, a few years back. And thus it lives on as an alternate style for you guys to use. It's been alot of time (and headaches) getting it to work properly. If you'd like to comment, have a suggestion or think you've found a problem, please don't hesitate to post about it in the theme's feedback thread (http://rmrk.net/index.php/topic,37775.0.html).

"This is glorious" - Sophist

Also as you might notice at (for now) the bottom, are some new links.

(https://rmrk.net/Themes/rmrk4lite-v2/images/twitter_logo.png) - The first is to RMRK's twitter (http://twitter.com/rmrk). This is mostly automated, containing random hilights of activity, though occasionally you'll see staff posting to it.

(https://rmrk.net/Themes/rmrk4lite-v2/images/formspring.png) -The second is to RMRK's formspring (http://formspring.me/rmrk) page. Here you may ask anything you like, and get answers from RMRK staff.

(https://rmrk.net/Themes/rmrk4lite-v2/images/live_alerts.png) - Third is RMRK's Windows Live Alerts service (http://signup.alerts.live.com/alerts/login.do?PINID=42680400&returnURL=http://rmrk.net/). This allows you to receive updates from RMRK straight to your windows live capable device (or program). The most common situation would be receiving periodical updates directly to your Windows Live Messenger. I've been using this for over a year now, it's great to keep up to speed.

Next up are new youtube tags. You don't need to change any way that you use them. Just use the button and put a video ID or a youtube URL and it will handle the rest. Fullscreen, HD resolution and even playlists are all supported.

"Thank you. :-]" - Irock

Also speaking of media, you may notice a few new links in the sidebar. One of them is named the "AR Podcast". What this is, is a music podcast (I never liked these buzzwords, but whatever..) created by RMRK members (currently 2, planning more in the future). It spans multiple genres and doesn't really have any rules apart from being roughly 1 hour long. Currently 15 episodes are up, and they are approved (and eagerly anticipated) by our beloved resident forum mother and moderator, LadyJules, so you know they're safe for family consumption.

" :blizj:" - LadyJules

Another addition to the sidebar links is a new link directly to the board for finished projects, helping those eager to play some finished games.

And last but not least, a chat link (http://rmrk.net/index.php?action=chat) is now in the main menu. This will take you to RMRK's IRC channel (http://rmrk.net/index.php?action=chat). If you're familiar with IRC and wish to use your own client, connect to irc.rmrk.net (port 6667), and join #crankeye. Otherwise, the online chat will handle it all for you, and even auto-fill your username.

This is horrible. (Okay, the theme itself looks cool in pictures, but it isn't working for me ._.)

[20:43] <Roph> select one
[20:43] <Firerain> you borked it
[20:43] <Roph> in firefox's menu
[20:45] <HaloOfTheSun> it made things a little smaller
[20:45] <HaloOfTheSun> I think
[20:45] <HaloOfTheSun> but it's still the same
[20:45] <HaloOfTheSun> I didn't bork it :mad:
[20:45] <HaloOfTheSun> I just logged on :mad:
[20:45] <Roph> in firefox
[20:45] <Roph> tools -> options
[20:45] <HaloOfTheSun> I haven't tried the theme before so ._.

[20:49] <HaloOfTheSun> and then there's a line
[20:50] <HaloOfTheSun> with
[20:50] <HaloOfTheSun> lh
[20:50] <HaloOfTheSun> ds

[20:51] <Roph> if you have a style cookie = it matches one of the alternate styles you see that
[20:51] <Roph> otherwise there's an all encompassing else {

Oh, btw, you might wanna update some links on the main site.

Look at that first one. It was by Kipe. You can probably guess what the problem is just by me saying that, lol.

Are these real podcasts, or just a bunch of music?
Title: Re: RMRK April Updates

I dunno what defines a "real" podcast =o. If you mean technically (as in feed etc) then yes there's one here (http://ar.rmrk.net/feed.xml).

There's no talking over the music. That's one reason the project started. Easy enough to find ones out there with nice enough music, but almost always some attention wanting guy is talking over the top of it in parts. "Hey you're in the mix with me DJ Irock, check out my twitter!". No thanks. Especially if it's a nice mix, you end up hearing the same spam multiple times.

A real podcast is talk radio. This is just music.

It's just music, Holk.

How (http://www.entrepreneur.com/encyclopedia/term/159122.html) do (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Podcast) you (http://www.pcmag.com/encyclopedia_term/0,2542,t=podcast&i=49433,00.asp) figure (http://blog.podcast.com/podcastcom-faq/what-is-a-podcast/)?

I'll give you that originally they were usually like radio broadcasts.  But they've evolved into so much more.  =o

Personally, I think they rock :blizj:

I'm not saying that they're bad. I'm just saying that a podcast is most often talking.

Yeah, I don't think of music when I think of podcast.

Podcast or not, who cares. We love making this project ^_^
Personally, I don't want to give my voice in our mixes, only music =o and Roph's sexy butt!

:mayo:

lol =o
I thought it's a nasty thing D:
