Title: Favourite Game
Post by: modern algebra on October 30, 2008, 03:08:55 AM
This topic has probably been made, but I do not know about it, therefore it does not exist. QED. Proof by omniscience.

Anyway, put your favourite game of all time. No lists of 100 fucking games. Make a decision. I will allow for a maximum of three games, provided none of those games are in the same genre, or a maximum of two games in one genre.

Anyway, mine is:

Betrayal at Krondor

Hard to choose, but I guess:

Banjo-Kazooie

My favorite game changes from time to time, but

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

See, I made mine big and bold so it stands out.

Irock always has to be different. It's so annoying that it's cute.

Also, Banjo-Kazooie is such a good game.

Will decide the best POP after IV comes out =D

Legend of Dragoon and Beneath a Steel Sky

Beneath a Steel Sky is an old abandonware now, but it was awesome when I first tried it out a few years ago. ;8
EDIT : And it still is.

Is that the point and click game where you're kidnapped by aliens or something? I think I played through that a long time ago. It was pretty good, as I can remember.

1) FF7 (dont shoot please >.<)
2) Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition
3) DBZ: Boudokai Tenkaichi 3

I can't decide, i honestly couldn't say.

Right now i'm leaning towards...

PAPER MARIO
KINGDOM HEARTS

And for whatever reason, I'm really clamoring for some FF9 right now, I never got far in it, so it doesn't make much sense.

Also, it's sort of funny that all of the games i just named are criticized for being incredibly kiddy :P
Title: Re: Favourite Game

i get that when i say kingdom hearts is cool XD.

And FF9 never really makes sense till the end of disk 3 >.< it would have been awesome if they had actually put a little more thought into it :/

Bad taste, gotta say.  Sure, it's a great game, but how can it be your favorite?  1 and 2 were better.

I'm going to do my favorite in each genre that I play, and console/PC/classic.

Console:

Rpg - Wild Arms: Alter Code F
Fps - Metroid: Prime
Platform - Psychonauts
Action/Adventure - Metal Gear Solid 3
Genreless - Katamari Damacy

PC:

Rpg - Baldur's Gate
Fps - Deus Ex
Rts - Starcraft
Genreless - Worms

Classic:

Rpg - Final Fantasy VI
Action/Adventure - Castlevania: SOTN
Puzzle - Tetris Attack
Platform - Banjo-Kazooie

I'm sure I'm forgetting some. There are so many games that I like, I can't remember them all.

1) Command & Conquer: Tiberium Sun (+expansion)

2) Worms 4 (They just get better and better. And whats really better then blowing worms up?!)

3) This one is close but... Just about any Total War game goes here. (Except Medieval I - it sucked.)(Can't wait for Empire!!)

And Fallout 3 is ok but I think it get's slightly repetitive (Although Bottlecap Mine + Perk:Bloody Mess + Large group of anything = FUN!!)

-FF9 - Good.
-Legend of Zelda series - Pick a favourite
-FF12 - Really, really awful.
-Legend of Dragoon - Fine.
-FF4 - Good.
-FF10 - Good. Sometimes bad.
-FF7 - Overrated. Not so bad; terrible fanbase though.
-Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2 - First is good; second is not. Fanbase sucks too.

In that order.

It's hard to dislike your taste in Final Fantasy games because you like good, bad and somewhere-in-between games.
Title: Re: Favourite Game

I liked FF12. this was one of those game that i could just sit there and play this game for hours. This game was unique in the way the battle system ran. The problem in the game was the license system and summons. Summons lasted a very limited time which sucked. The game should of stuck with everyone being able to choose summons at any given time depending on there mp. License system should of never existed. It was useless. Another that's annoying is that the really powerful weapons were found at random.
It sucks that one of my files could never get the strongest weapon in the game because you opened chest that you shouldn't of opened. overall the is okay but they should thought of the game more than the cutscenes.

i would give the game a 6.5/10

I didn't think it was too bad, not the best final fantasy by any means but not terrible. I for one enjoyed the licence system, it added something to make it different from other FFs and it's almost (almost that is) fun getting the LPs to unlock that weapon you picked up some time ago. It does have a ok story, if a bit cliche, but we will live.

anyway, my opinion is that 12 is pure and utter garbage, It sits on my shelf in its case it well never again see the inside of my ps2, anything you say will not change my mind.

As for my favorite games, Metal Gear Solid Series, Xenogears (saga blows ) Half-life 2, Morrowind, Call of Duty series, and in terms of multiplayer Halo CE (i still can't run it on the pc, so don't ask), and the Fallout series 1 2 and 3, haven't played tactics and Fallout:BoS was even worse than FF12.

lol it's not that you 'could' sit there and play it for hours, it's that you wouldn't get anything done if you didn't play it for hours at a time.

the story wasn't very memorable, it was kinda flat, and not as well developed as some of the other stories out there.  Characters didn't really develop and Vaan kinda pissed me off.

I always used that other guy... I can't even remember his name lol. The dude that you pick up at the prison. My party was always Vaan, that guy, and that chick (the queen). I'm positive my 3 reserve characters were never past level 20. I always played with my three main. Got them to like 80? or something. I dunno. I forget it's been a while.

you got a point. I didn't play the game for the story. If you were play the game for story, then you could beat the game in 10 hours at the least.

It bothered me that FF12 had none of the characters represented any classes from the earlier games. All the games in the FF series had some resemblance if it was a familiar boss or summon. They where no summons from any other FF game. Their was no Bahamut who is a huge figure the series. This game sucked as to term of being a console FF or main series FF game.
Title: Re: Favourite Game

There sort of was. The Sky Fortress Bahamut. I haven't actually played the game, but I remember that from watching a friend. It's not a summon or anything, but the name is there.
Title: Re: Favourite Game
Post by: Grafikal on December 05, 2008, 03:50:58 AM
The summons were there. Just no one ever used them. They don't last long enough and they don't serve much of a purpose. The classes were there, but only when you first got a character. Just the longer you played, the more unclassifiable you make the characters.

Agreed. When you got to the higher levels you would have so many spaces on the licence board unlocked each character could, basically, use any spell and ability, and equip any weapon or armour piece! But the way you set up the gambits is important too, having 3 character with the same gambits won't work well on the tougher enemies.. :=:

Hmm based on hours played (because its the only way I can choose) I would have to say my fav is either pokemon crystal or FFX.

I've spent 180 hours approx on each game.

Realms of Everquest: Champions of Norrath.
Title: Re: Favourite Game
Post by: Holkeye on January 05, 2009, 05:41:46 PM
Norrath was a ripoff of Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance. Now there are a bunch of games in that Action/Rpg/Dungeon Crawler/Fetch Quest genre. If you like it, check out the Dark Alliance series, Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel, X-Men Legends, and if you have a PSP, try the Untold Legends games, or Dungeon Siege: Throne of Agony. These games are fun for a while, but are really thin and basically level grinds.

Ocarina of Time is hands down the best game ever made. EVER.

It was my first ever Zelda game, and the first game I ever actually owned.*All my other games were my brother's.* I got it for my birthday when I was 7. I played it all the time. Except when I got to Dampe's grave. I was too afraid to go in myself, so I got my brother to do it for me. Same for the well. I was also strangely frightened by that scientist guy's house. ._.'

The Spirit Temple was my favorite. No idea why. I think it might've been the music.

Oh, and I didn't really realize that this topic was so old, but it was on the 1st page and there wasn't really a thread like it so I hope no one minds. ^^;

I'm aways a few years late with games, haha. just played through CoD4: Modern Warfare. I have to say, I was thoroughly impressed. I gave it two run throughs, one on Medium then again on Veteran. (Managed to beat Mile High Club on vet too)

Overall, I was quite impressed, graphics were great, gameplay was solid, controls were great. My only issue was the forever respawning NPCs at certain parts.

Either a Harvest Moon game or FFT: War of the Lions. Tales of Phantasia would have to be pretty close too. Same with Boktai 2: Solar Boy Django.

This may be cheating or whatever, but I am going to list 2 games that I cannot decide between.

Metroid Prime Trilogy (Prime 1 being my favorite in it)
And Metroid Other M

Can't decide which one I like more, so I'll put both.

Yeah, the Witcher was a great game. It's too bad that it took so long to patch the inanities out of it. I bet it would've been better seen in the eyes of critics if not for the game-ending bugs pre-patch.

True.

I was fortunate enough to get a copy of it made already after the patches fixed up all the bugs, so I didn't have the problems I know other people had.

Like a friend of mine, he had to download patch after patch as soon as they came out to normally play it.

Yeah, there was a game-ending boss fight very early on. I stopped playing it because of that, and then finally came back to it after it was fully patched. I can't wait for the sequel.

So am I. Especially after I saw the "Prison Break" gameplay video. So far honestly the game looks like even better than the original.

Though honestly, let's admit it, they'll only let Geralt remember his past when they want to stop producing the games. As someone who has read the books to which the games are (non-canon, though) sequels, I can safely say that.

Unique gameplay and original characters. Best game I've ever played and I've been at it for a looong time. Super Nintendo had the greatest games ever and remains to me the best system in existence.

Modern, I picked up Krondor from GoG, and I played a little bit of it. I normally hate high-fantasy writing, but I was actually enjoying the story. I'm not far into it at all, but I like it. Further proof that graphics don't make the game.
Title: Re: Favourite Game
Post by: modern algebra on November 19, 2010, 12:50:21 AM
haha, good to hear. I hope you end up loving it as much as I do. You definitely have to put the frame rate up to make it playable, but yeah - I've never understood people who need amazing graphics in order to like a game. Of my top 10 games, maybe three of them have good graphics.

I generally dislike high fantasy also, but I think it doesn't bother me in BaK because I find the actual plot is pretty light on it. It's mostly a political story, and when high fantasy elements come into it it's usually minor or transitional. It's main role is as a gameplay element, either as magic in battle, the various magic objects like the spyglass, or the temple stuff.

Anyway, have fun. The riddle chests are probably my favourite part.

I recently bought Shadow of the Colossus, a game I'd been meaning to play for quite a while. Have to say, I'm really fucking impressed so far. Controls were slightly awkward at first, but now I'm all goods, the graphics are great for a Ps2 game, the music is absolutely amazing, and the mood is perfect.

Also, has some of the most epic fights in a game. And epic monsters. Yeah, it's good.

Title: Re: Favourite Game

Out of the MMOs that I've played, Guild Wars was definitely at the top of the list. The overall design was awesome, the gameplay was fun, the fact that it was free monthly, and (when I played it) the level cap was only TWENTY! Not to mention you could build a ready-made level 20 character. That meant you didn't have to spend AGES levelling before you could do any PvP.
But for some strange reason that I STILL don't understand, I logged many more hours on World of Warcraft, even though I hated it throughout. It was so damn addicting. Thank god I got out of that rut a few years ago.

In terms of overall favorite games:
Final Fantasy Tactics
Ogre Battle 64
Super Mario Bros. 3

The original Guild Wars costs $20 now to play, then it has several expansions as well which aren't very expensive either. I think that's a pretty sweet deal.
