THE STORIES (From Latest to Oldest):

Hobotropolis:

The gang has grown restless after their return to adventuring concluded several months earlier with the events in Little China, Maine. Our hero's companions come up with a plan for the ultimate vacation in the save hobo's jealously guarded resort known as "Hobotropolis." But the effects of the recently-deceased council are still resounding through this realm, and beneath Hobotropolis's jovial exterior, there is a familiar darkness stirring in its hoary bowels...

Big Trouble in Little China, Maine:

Strange things are afoot in Webber's frozen homeland in China, Maine. He enlists the help of Anebriate and the gang to check things out, only to find that someone with extraordinary powers has been terrorizing the locals. Upon investigating, they discover a series of clues which lead them to Augusta, the overgrown former-capital of Maine which is now a hippie colony and Native American reservation. These clues lead them to a revelation nearly as terrifying as George Washington himself: the culprit appears to be a rogue save hobo. Anebriate and company must enter the Save Realm and seek justice from the Supreme Save Council.

The Original:

A few years ago, in the entirely fictional kingdom of Maine, a political band of foreign diplomats seized control of the throne and began manipulating the current king in power. Plundering Maine's rich economy, this mysterious organization was eventually found out and expedited viciously by a small force of totally radical warriors, chief among them the protagonist of our story: Anebriate. Order was eventually restored to the kingdom, but the riches lost could not be recovered. Totally unrelated, Anebriate became absurdly wealthy and spent his days loafing around in his house, drinking himself into comas and picking fights with local shopkeepers.

This story begins upon the eve of a series of catastrophic events which will lead to Anebriate suffering the loss of his vast wealth, his house, his memory, and subsequently, his impressive skills.

This is a tale of recovery--not just the recovery of monetary concerns or memory, but also the recovery of lost humanity.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS GAME IS RATED "MATURE" FOR ITS ADULT LANGUAGE AND THEMES.

PLOT:
Quote
Tales of the Drunken Paladin: Book III follows the life of the world's greatest warrior, as he wastes his talents loafing around with his massive hordes of treasure. A series of unfortunate events leads to him losing his riches, his talents, and his recollection of ever having either one. As if that weren't bad enough, someone burns down the local food place while he's in it, forcing him on a quest to find out who's responsible. As it turns out, the person or persons involved are inextricably linked to his lost riches, and he gradually begins to piece together the realization that he has been severely screwed.

CHARACTERS:

Spoiler for:
Anebriate:
Anebriate is the main character, and the person to whom all the unfortunate things happen. He's generally lazy, hates straining himself, doesn't particularly care to involve himself in extraneous activities, and generally just wants to loaf around. His greatest pleasures include: back-rubs, booze, eating donuts, and sleeping. Nobody is quite sure how he became the world's greatest warrior, and nobody is really surprised when all of a sudden he's forgotten all about it.

Palmer:
Palmer is a Cardinal, a high-ranking member of the Catholic church. He was once an active priest, traveling the world with Anebriate in search of meaning, and money, but over the past few years he's settled down in the Litchfield cathedral to take charge of the clergy's affairs. However, when he finds himself confronted with an oblivious Anebriate, the temptation to tag along is too great, and he forces himself into the party. Palmer may be a stalwart religious defender, but he is in no way a good role model. He's misogynistic and generally abusive towards children. He carries around a walking stick or a cane, which he occasionally uses to "slap a bitch."

Deemer:
Also known as "Deemer the White," he is a powerful magician who lives a peaceful life in the humble forest village of Richmond. When the tavern burns to the ground and magic is suspected however, a number of fingers point in his direction, making him an immediate concern for our protagonist. Whether he is responsible or not, Anebriate must travel to Richmond and speak with him, or to fight, whichever comes first.

Dave
(https://rmrk.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg5.imageshack.us%2Fimg5%2F1842%2Fdaveb.png&hash=f92bba19bf33c766963ea6996ccec25e34b26aef)
Dave is a capable pilot who agrees to help Anebriate and his companions out on their quest by escorting him around free of charge. He's also abundantly friendly and helpful, and nobody really stops to contemplate why he is so eager to help without any apparent benefit. He's so friendly, in fact, that it borders on frightening. I guess they just can't help but trust that beard.

As well as these four primary characters, there are three optional ones that you may attempt to adopt, and it may have substantial impact on the ending of the game if you do...

Emma:
Emma is a warlock by trade, often using her mysterious magics to help out government officials, or merely to scare animals away from crops for the benefit of local farmers. She is quick-witted and wise, but also short-tempered and intolerant to ignorance, which puts Anebriate in a bad spot. She'll agree to help your little crew in exchange for a rare anthology of poetry, but the book won't be cheap.

Albert:
Albert is a dedicated thief, and he's been causing some mischief in town. If you agree to help a citizen in need, you might happen upon Albert during one of his nightly stalks through the square. After being prodded for a while and refusing to give up any information, Anebriate comes to learn an extremely significant piece of information about Albert that tends to hinder communication between them. Nevertheless, his skills are impressive, and if you play your cards right you can get Albert on the team.

Webber
(https://rmrk.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg14.imageshack.us%2Fimg14%2F6360%2Fwebber.png&hash=0894d8029beb1a954efbc17f66edebdbf47667b0)
Webber is clearly a madman. He screams everything he says at the top of his lungs, and is constantly yearning for bloodshed. You may see him around the slums of Gardiner, enjoying a cold one, and it would behoove you to gather what information from him that you can. Some people say Webber wants nothing more than to destroy everything in sight. Some say he suffers from post-traumatic stress disorders. Still others say that all Webber really wants is a friend.

Hey everyone, glad to see this thread was kept going one way or another. I've made a pretty substantial update, including a ton of fixes and a couple of hours of new content.

I'm looking to get some feedback so I can get a solid footing on what direction I need to take this.

Holy fuck, I thought Arlen was making a game. Jesus, get a new avatar.
Never heard of Arlen, but the easy way to avoid avatar confusion is to read.

No thanks. IMPOSTERRRRR!

Also, I like your screenshots. You're just one of not too many people that can map in VX.

However, if I play this and I get to the part where the one guy says "blah blah blah, Sucka!" I will delete the game.

The demo has undergone several transformations, and the experience should be a much better one from its earliest incarnations.

So is this a half joke - half serious RPG?
I guess that's one way to look at it.

The game was created for comedic purposes entirely, but as time went on the characters became developed and more human, which lends to moments of gravity. It is also very serious with regards to the nature of its craft; it is a very, very detailed and multifaceted game in any context, and so people who expect to play a "joke game" tend to be taken aback by the level of complexity.

Update: Patch 1.5 is uploaded, and is the latest and potentially final patch for the game until the first expansion is released (fingers crossed).

Thanks to everyone who's played and enjoyed TDP III (which now has over 2,000 downloads total!)

1.5.1 released.

I just wanted to pop by and announce two exciting things:

1. Tales of the Drunken Paladin: Book III won the 2009 "Game of the Year" and "Funniest Game" awards from rpgmakervx.net
(https://rmrk.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg694.imageshack.us%2Fimg694%2F1734%2Frmvxgameoftheyearcomple.png&hash=821e5c4ad7edc1b2a99080a45abbbf02c7d3f2e1)

If you haven't played the game yet, now is literally THE best time to do so, because not only has the game been improved substantially from its earliest incarnations, but also...

2. Big Trouble in Little China, Maine, the first expansion, is officially due May 1st, in just over a week, and adds several hours of gameplay onto the end of Tales of the Drunken Paladin.

Click HERE (http://www.drunkenpaladin.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=104) for more details on the expansion, and become a fan on the new Facebook HERE (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Tales-of-the-Drunken-Paladin-Book-III/101755023196531).

Just wanted to announce (if I can) that the latest patch, V.1.1.4 (http://www.drunkenpaladin.com/Big Trouble in Little China, Maine 1.1.4.rar), is now available.

EDIT: Haha, the expansion post is gone. Maybe... I'll come back later. XD

Hey folks, I'm having a poll for the game's difficulty. So if you've played, and want to toss in your two cents, vote here (http://www.drunkenpaladin.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=264).

Whoops!

I have not been looking after my rpgmaker threads! Tales of the Drunken Paladin: Hobotropolis is released (a month ago) and adds over 10 hours of gameplay to the already-impressive 20-25 hours from the first two portions of the game!

I added a couple of new screenshots to the first post, so y'all should check them out. I think you might like this game!  :P
