Title: Paper Mario Pocket 2: Future Shock! NEW Official Thread 2008!
Post by: Teej on June 24, 2008, 12:08:58 AM
Paper Mario Pocket 2 is back on!  :m:

I have begun to rework Paper Mario Pocket 2 after my computer crashed.  :(

EDIT: 1/15/2009
Here is a link to the final game! Enjoy!

EDIT: 8/24/2011
Wow, I've been gone a while, huh? I'm back with a new project to be announced, but this one was finished! Why's it in Abandoned Projects? Any chance a mod could move this, please? Thanks!

I really don't recommend using the VX RTP, nor do I recommend VX for this game. I think it would be sort of lame to have non-matching tilesets for a Mario game. :|

Teej I will tell you right now, do not get stuck in VX. It is a TRAP. You'll run out of tileset room like *that*, if you decide not to use the RTP.

However, if you're really using the RTP, knock yourself out. BUT BEWARE THE PROGRAM'S FATAL LIMITATION!

Really? Hmm. I went and got the trial, and so far I like it, but if you're sure, I'll use my original tileset for the game and use RMXP. It's tried and true, I guess. Plus there's more scripts for it and all my sprites are already in that format, so it'll save a lot of time.

Don't forget that Mario tileset I pieced together. :o

I did, actually. I downloaded it, and will be using it!

Edit: 6/24/08

Hey, all. I am in the planning phase of the game right now. I am in a bit of a crossroads, and when in doubt, I ask you guys!  ;8

I have a few song choices for the postgame wherein you can visit the future Flower Fields from Paper Mario 1, among other places, and I want Mario and party to be able to view the 100 year Bub-Ulb Mating Festival, wherein the Bub-Ulbs dance to a song. I can't decide which song, though. I want it to be a classic 80s song that is somewhat corny by today's standards.

Here's my ideas
1. Hamster Dance
2. Beverly Hills Cop Theme
3. Disco Inferno
4. The One That I Want (from Grease)

If you have any ideas for the song, let me know!

Bump. Anyone?

New news for July 7th 2008!

Here are some changes that have occurred in the Mushroom Kingdom in the last 50 years!

Hope that sounds cool!

That sounds really cool! I'd love to be able to actually gamble in Dry Dryopolis. Little mini-games and extras like that make games so much better.

Yeah, I'm working on some of the mini-games right now. There will be slot machines, and card games for sure. Possibly roulette. Here are some screenshots for you all!

Paper Mario Pocket 2 Production Update! 8/25/08

I started school last week, and I am moving this weekend, but despite my personal life, the game is coming along. It's going to be pretty short, because I REALLY want to work on the postgame, where you play as Mario and Luigi's future selves in the correct tangent of time. Don't worry. All will become clear in time...

Edit 9/2/08
Bump. Anyone still interested in the game?

Cool. At least ONE person responded. Just kidding. I thought I'd let you in on the story, as I've developed a lot of it by now. Most of it comes to me as I make the maps and such. I just finished Chapter 3 of 8 today. I'll be done pretty soon, as the game is more like a graphic novel than an actual RPG. But I will still include the postgame. That's my favorite part! However, here is what I have so far:

HUGE, CATASTROPHIC SPOILER ALERT!

Prologue
Spoiler for:
Mario and Luigi are enjoying a relaxing day (as usual) when Professor Gadd pulls them from their time fifty years into the future! How is Gadd still alive? You'll have to play to find out! They are asked by Gadd and Eldstar to gather objects called the Time Stars, which keep time in order in their world. Without them in their proper place orbiting the planet in the Time Sanctuary, separate places of the Mushroom Kingdom have begun to freeze in time and turn to stone. Gusty Gulch and all of Shiver Mountain have already done so. So, Mario and Luigi, now accompanied by fan-requested GENO, who is revealed to work for the Star Spirits as a Star Soldier, joins Mario and Luigi on their adventure through the future of the Mushroom Kingdom.

Chapter 1
AGAIN! SPOILER ALERT!
Spoiler for:
Mario and Luigi are told by Prof. Gadd to head for Flower Fields, where the first Time Star is. They go west to Goomba Road, the only way to get there, as it is now a National Park. The path is being blocked by some Goombas. They continue west to Goomba Village. That's right, Goomba VILLAGE. There are more Goombas living there now. Goombario and Goombella had a son, Goombrian. (I assume that Goombario grew up between Paper Marios 1 and 2, so he and Goombella are probably about the same age. No molestation in THIS game!) Goombrian joins the crew. They travel back to Flower Fields, to find who else but Twink at the gate pleading with the Goombas to let him in! They reveal accidentally that they work for the guy who stole the Time Stars and scattered them across the Mushroom Kingdom (Who is this mysterious man? Again. Play it to find out).

What happens from there? I dont want to give the WHOLE game away... that's just a taste. I'll be done soon enough. Just a teaser! ;D

Edit 9/19/08
I'm starting work on Chapter 4, most of which is a homage to one of my favorite TV Shows, which was cancelled by the fools at Cartoon Network, "Code: Lyoko". I'm mostly doing this chapter as a homage to the show, because I enjoyed it so much that I need closure now that it's over. That may sound silly, but imagine how you'd feel if a show you lived vicariously through got canceled. I thought so. If you like Code: Lyoko, you'll love Chapter 4: Code: Mario!

It was pretty unique to all the other boring shizz on CN.  SO you gonna have random towers pop up lmao?

Chapter 4 Spoiler alert!

Spoiler for:
Nah. They're going to be virtualized into a computer world called Gaddland. It was created by Professor E. Gadd to allow control of electronic devices from long distances, but it became too powerful, so he shut it down. Unknowingly, though, his assistant, Koopriel, had virtualized herself into the world to debug it for him as a surprise, but she was locked within the supercomputer. Mario and friends free her, but she is not mad at Gadd, she just is happy to be free.

Sure is. I'm now well into Chapter 5, which is chock full of movie parodies!  ;D You'll see a Pirates of the Caribbean parody, and a generic zombie movie parody both in Chapter 5!

Here is a sneak peek!
Spoiler for:
In Chapter 5, an evil character turns the Yoshis of Lavalava Island into zombies by sapping their life force. At one point, he uses their bodies to entertain himself, while waiting for Mario and Luigi to show up. Guess what song he makes them dance to? Click below!

Edit for 9/28/08
Would you guys like me to work on a short demo, or just keep working on the full game?

Sorry to double post, but I wanted everyone to get a message about this idea I had, and am currently implementing.

If you liked Paper Mario Pocket 1, but are worried about PMP2, don't worry! Because once you defeat the final boss in Paper Mario Pocket: Future Shock, you can travel to Subcon, using a special code to be included within ALL future versions of Paper Mario Pocket 1, versions 1.2 and beyond! You will be able to travel to Subcon with your current partners, and meet up with anyone who I wanted to include in PMP2, but didn't/won't make it. After all, as King Snoozy said: You can always meet again in dreams! What do you all think of that? Cool? Lame? Keep it? Leave it out?

Err...Bump? Is anyone interested in this anymore, or am I just doing this for myself? I'm nearing the end of Chapter 7. Should I bother with the Subcon part, or leave it out? Anyone? Hello?  ???

That's because I took a LONG break in the middle of the original. With everyone as excited as they are (and with the original having over 600 downloads at Sourceforge) I'm much more motivated to finish this one!

Mkay. I finished Chapter 8! It's kinda anti-climactic, but it gets better when you get to the postgame. You play as Mario and Luigi, 50 years older, in a peaceful future of the Mushroom Kingdom, where you can meet all their old friends, AND go to Subcon with a special code to be included in future updates of Paper Mario Pocket 1! The future of the kingdom changes considerably in the postgame, so just because there's not many battles doesn't mean it's not as fun.

BTW, I decided on the song for the Bub-Ulbs mating dance: Walking on Sunshine. Perfect, right? I heard it on the radio, and realize that it fit perfectly.

The only major bug I found was that the music that was meant to play inside Club 64 wasn't in the music folder.
