Average to above average mapper.
Know a tiny bit of scripting.
Story writing.
Resource grabbing:P

I'm not that great, but I guess I'm:
Novice Eventer (can't do really cool stuff with events, but I know event basics)
Good Mapper (except my maps can look a little not natural)
Bad Spriter (I want to get better... my sprites suck...)
BAD Scripter (I basically know nothing about scripting.)
OK Story Maker (I usually make stuff up as I go along. It's easy.)

If anybody knows any good tutorials to sprite, like in the Tales of the World 3 sprite style, let me know!

This is my guesses, and because I lack confidence, I think it's up to you to judge the truth:
Decent story writer (but I hate my grammars T_T)
Average poet (still training, still training)
Novice character designer (I'm still learning how to draw GUYS, and how to develop a sissy girl)
Wild game conceptor (got tons of concepts, too many >_>)
Novice voice actress (just getting started)
Graphic designs (I love my Photoshop...)
Song writer (okay, no demo yet, cuz I don't know any keys but I know how to make a song. WEIRD)

Aww, me.

Here goes then:

---------------------------------------------------------------
MAPPING - Slightly better than AVERAGE
STORY WRITING - I make HIT and MISS stories
CHARACTER DESIGN- I am AWESOME at character design.  My characters actually have PERSONALITIES!
SPRITE MAKING - I can't make originals,,I usually just edit what's already there.  I am PRETTY GOOD at that
TITLE SCREEN MAKING - I tried it once with 256 colors. It SUCKED.
ICON MAKING - I NEVER TRIED that. But it can't be THAT hard to rip off an icon.
SCRIPTING - DISASTER in the making
EVENT PROGRAMMING - pWnAg3!
VOICE ACTING - Hah. I love my voice,,but I am NOT MUCH of an actor.
MUSIC COMPOSING - One of my BETTER SKILLS.  Mostly upbeat stuff though.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Title: Re: What are your RPG Maker skills?
Post by: Wren on October 03, 2007, 09:47:56 PM
I was pretty good at mapping on both 2003 and XP
I could make very good events and scripts for cut scenes and plot elements (such as making a broken bridge be repaired after you turn in a quest)
I was pretty good at doing battle animations on 2003
I can't make a sprite or icon to save my life
I can't voice act either
I can make original music (or at least I used to be able to, don't know if my old software will run anymore)
Title: Re: What are your RPG Maker skills?
Post by: Kokowam on October 03, 2007, 09:53:20 PM
Copying djkdjl's format:
---------------------------------------------------------------
MAPPING - Slightly (barely) better than average. But average these days aren't too good.
STORY WRITING - Too cliched.
CHARACTER DESIGN- Nope
SPRITE MAKING - LOL no
TITLE SCREEN MAKING - No.
ICON MAKING - Pretty good. I did start the Icon Shop~
SCRIPTING - Mostly only edits
EVENT PROGRAMMING - Best skill, but still not too great
---------------------------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------------
MAPPING - ~
STORY WRITING - I write enough to get the point across. I don't worry too much about character development or anything like that, just enough to progress events.
CHARACTER DESIGN- Nope
SPRITE MAKING - Self-explanatory
TITLE SCREEN MAKING - Pretty good. :)
ICON MAKING - I have trouble remembering how to convert 'em. :P Other than that, no harder than spriting.
SCRIPTING - I have no experience.
EVENT PROGRAMMING - I do this well. :D
---------------------------------------------------------------
Title: Re: What are your RPG Maker skills?
Post by: Esmeralda on October 08, 2007, 05:54:35 PM
---------------------------------------------------------------
MAPPING - It's ok, could be alot better but it's better than nothing D:
STORY WRITING - Very generic, but I always have a very thorough story that covers everything.
CHARACTER DESIGN- I do think alot about them and try building a character for them but it's not very successful most of the time.
SPRITE MAKING - Very basic :[
TITLE SCREEN MAKING - Photoshop is my friend.
ICON MAKING - It's okay. I do make my own icons but they tend to differ out from all the other blending styles that I cram together in there.
SCRIPTING - Me + Script = Bold & Beautiful
EVENT PROGRAMMING - Can't complain. Above average, if I dare say.
---------------------------------------------------------------

I am also very fond of making dialogue, cutscenes and item descriptions.

Doesn't mean I'm good at it tho.

Amazing how a lot of people think they're great. Not saying they aren't, just used to seeing more humble responses XD.

As for me, I'm good enough to replicate the ideas I have in any category that I need.  Whether those ideas are top notch are up for debate, of course, but at least I can confidently say that I can turn my own thoughts into a reality.

It's interesting reading people reflecting upon their own abilities.

Could you elaborate on your abilities. In which areas do your consider yourself most prolific?
I know you are an excellent eventer in RM2K3, but not everyone does.

Since a long time has passed since the majority of people posted their abilities I believe it could be worth for them to reflect once more upon their abilities.
I am sure the majority will find that their abilities have changed.
I would prefer if everyone use the same scale even though they naturally would use it differently. What about this?
Expert>Great>Good>Ok>Poor>Terrible  (I took it from grafikal007 and changed Piss poor to Terrible)

I still am mainly working with RMXP and thus my skills are greatest with that program.
I have become a better eventer and scripter since last time ^_^
Good enough for being paid both for eventing and scripting.
There is really nothing else worth mentioning. Well, my mapping does not outright suck, it's just bad.

Oh yeah, here's a new idea as well:
If you have any on this forum you look up to (or consider really good) on certain areas then comment on how your skill are in that particular subject compared to the person in question.
It could just be like Madriel's ability at establishing the mood during a cutscene compared to which my own ability is ok. It could also be something more deep.
If it doesn't work well I suggest you ignore this idea.

*hugs*

Mapping - Expert
Eventing - Great
Scripting - Poor
Spriting - Good
Writing - Expert
Composing - Good
Graphics Arts - Good
General Design - Expert

This makes me feel self-centered. Anyway, the only thing that really eludes me anymore is scripting. I can only do some edits.

That is all.

Mapping - Expert (I think)
Eventing - Good (But not A genious)
Scripting - Horrible (I can just play around with it if it has instructions)
Spriting - Advance (Thou till learning)
Writing - Advance (Thou I should really stop using other general bases)
Graphic-stuff - Amateur (It's the truth)
Composing - Horrible (I can't think of it ;=; )

Mapping inspiration came from Nouman, Shadow & Maia frankly.

Spriting inspiration came from LOS & Ming (Monkeydlu/Code Geass).

But just for shits n' giggles.

Scripting - I blow.
Eventing - I'm decent at it. Getting better.
Mapping - Eh.. Very.. Bad?
Writing - Can't do it for shit.

Stfu, you liar. You're not "Great" at Spriting. If you count the White Ties things, they're freakin' awesome. Beyond Expert.

Also, you can't really doubt anyone because all the words using to describe your skills are comparison words, and they're what the poster thinks they are compared to what they think the rest of the RM community is like.

I am decent at eventing, at least i could make almost anything if i make the commitment, at least that's what i say to myself at night.

I'm useless at scripting, i try changing things but the program whines about what i have changed later >.>

My spriting is... slightly above average.

average is not at all. I can do a little. just a little. i'm terrible at it.

My facesets are...okay....i'm useless at editing them though.

I like to think my mapping is okay, but i have a hard time with towns and i've never really been able to compare them to anything. They look good because FSM looks good on everything.

Mapping: OK. (Not very creative with mapping :P)
Eventing: OK. (I only know what all of the buttons can do. Until I can make a minigame out of eventing, I'll just say I'm normal with it.)
Scripting: So horribly bad, that I couldn't script to save my own life.
Spriting: Bad. (Too lazy to do it ><)
Writing: ? (If this means creating a storyline, then I can't rate it until I make my first game)
Composing: Horrible. (I'm too impatient to do this. And plus, I can't think of a song to create.)
Grammar: Good. (I test play my game enough to find the errors and fix them.)
Overall: Poor.

And I still haven't made my first game completely.
ouch...
Spoiler for:
So far, My game is called Lone Knight. I only just got started on it. All my other projects I have dumped because I keep changing ideas, or I keep losing the data to them.  :tpg:

Scripting: . . . eh . . .
Mapping: Ameteur. (I'm with you, Nuclearray)
Eventing: Intermediate.
Art: Half-decent manga, limited scanner access, ameteur pixel art.
Grammar: Wait, that was in the top 10 too. Doesn't really show, does it?
Composing: I love music, but I can't find a decent program to make stuff, and Finale 03 doesn't seem to work on Vista very well.
Economics: No money, amazing I even got VX and XP registered.
Overall: Novice. Noob. Ameteur. Like, 2 redeeming qualities.

Look at the level around this environment. Calling you a beginner in the context of RMRK is silly. >:|

I haven't used RM in such a long time that I have no idea how skilled I am.
Looking back on my most recent games (which are years old), I would have to say:

Writing: Excellent
Dialogue: Decent
Mapping: Decent most of the time
Scripting: I can only edit variables and the like (as in numbers), no clue how to script scripts
Composing: Decent most of the time
Eventing: Good
Spriting: Good

And that's me as I was years ago. Now, I'm sure I'm even lamer.

I assume Zeriab's trying to imply that RMRK has some very experienced RPG Makers.
Comparing in a superior environment than in an inferior one is a very different thing.

 Mapping: Fairly good
 Eventing: OK
Scripting: So horribly bad, that I couldn't script to save my own life.  ;9
Spriting: Bad. (Too lazy to do it.)
StoryWriting: Great. (Writng is one of my pasttimes.)
Composing: Terrible. (\i don't know yet how to compose.)
Grammar: Marvelously good. (I test play my game enough to find the errors and fix them.)
 Overall: Fair.

My favorite part of this thread is how a bunch of people say that they're great writers, but their posts are filled with spelling and grammatical errors.

Mapping: Pretty darn good (i had help from MANY mapping tuts on you tube!)

Eventing: Excellent. I can make all kinds of systems using events (banks, lock picking skills, mining, smithing)

Scripting: I am good at editing scripts.. but i wouldn't be able to write my own.

Spriting: To be honest. I think i am good.. others thing i am not so good.. it takes time.

Story Writing: When i get an idea, I get an idea and go all out with it.

Composing: nil skills.

Grammar: Reasonably well.. I tend to spell things correctly 90% of the time.

Overall: Good (my lack of scripting, grammar and composing skills let me down)

I fail at Scripting
Pretty good at eventing and troubleshooting
Pretty decent with maps
Decent with battle flow
Practicing story development and scene-play skills.
Mapping: No outside opinions given, ever. I think they're decent.

Eventing: Decent

Scripting: Fail horribly.

Spriting: Fail

Story Writing: I develop the ones that are worth keeping.

Composing: Fail

Grammar: I've been told I excel compared to peers, when I try.

Overall: Principle needs a lot of work and trainning..Yeesh.

Mapping - Advanced
Eventing - Above average
Scripting - Abyssmal
Spriting - Pretty Good
Writing - Constant state of flux
Composing - Tone Deaf
Graphics Arts - I can get people to pay me to do it
General Design - Solid

Pretty much...I used to be a freelance artist. I was hired to do concept design and illustration for two games which unfortunately ran out of budget or were axed to the whims of the developers. Visual is my thing.

Updating, more detail:

Story making (or innovation . . . a few weeks from college english and I still don't have a clue): RedeemerCharacter development: Redeemer
Scripting: AAAAHHHHGGGG!!!!!! MY BRAIN!!!!!
Pixel/computer spriting: Hm . . . lemme come back after the Game Core class and say average. Now, I gotta go with my response to scripting.
Manga/paper-pencil spriting: Better with every manga I read. My skill now makes my current pic (12-21-08) look like something I drew years ago.
Composing: Band class doesn't teach this. My composing is flat out bad.
Grammar: Redeemer
Eventing: Uh . . . what's an event system?
Time management: Sorry. In my life, the words "time" and "managent" don't go together in a positive way.
Computer skills: Redeemer

Key: Redeemer = my top skills, considerably good
Anything else = just read it
        Bold = my answer

I forgot a lot of stuff, my parents are gonna unplug the network cables in 5 seconds.

Haha. This seems a fun thread. Interesting responses xPP. I might as well post mine.

Battler: A master and still improving.
Mapping: Average and still improving.
Eventing: Average and still improving.
Creating Plot: Average and still improving.
Creating Characters: Average and still improving.
Creative dreamy ideas: Average and still improving.
Spelling/Grammar: Pretty bad. Need improvement. It's getting better.
Spiriting: Pretty bad. But I am apparently quite good with editing colours if that's the same thing or not? xPP
Scripting: Terrible. xPP

Erm.....I'm sure there many more missing but there you go.

Seems everyone here is an expert in at least two elements xPP
