Chorus of condemned souls

Demo:
Hopefully to be released by the end of January.

Story:
The game begins with a small scene involving the main character, Reigna (see; Characters), standing in the middle of a small forest clearing. She speaks to somebody, speaking of fixing a tradgedy that may have been caused by her. Voices speak back and you learn that she's no longer among the living.

Following the forest-scene, the game returns to 4 months before. You start off as Reigna, a young girl with a slight drinking problem who works for her father ranching monsters. She's decently skilled in swordsmanship and can hold her own against everyday monsters. Immediately, before any real relaxing storyline can occur, the game takes an odd twist sending Reigna through a short series of events that are quite out of the ordinary. Eventually, she returns home and suspects that it was all some sort of strange dream.

I don't want to reveal much more as it may give away some key points of the storyline, but she meets up with some other characters, and the story starts to unfold from there, with some interesting twists along the way.

Characters:
Reigna Ganry
Age: 19
Sex: Female
Profile: A young girl who works for her father ranching monsters. She's got a bit of a drinking problem, and a connected attitude to go with it, and she manages to cope well with strange or difficult situations. She's the kind of girl you wouldn't want to bring home to your parents. ;)

Drailun
Age: ??
Sex: Male
Profile: A mysterious man, not visually older than 22 but wise and battle hardened like a war veteran, he meets Reigna early in the game and guides her through Tiamet's Cave. He's got an "I'm better than you, and that's fact" kind of attitude, and he really is. He knows what he's talking about and can get himself out of any tight spot. He fights using light longswords, and he's faster than an average human.

Thomas Melford
Age: 24
Sex: Male
Profile: A city boy, he's decided on a change of scenery, so he's wandering the countryside looking for something different. He meets up with Reigna when he comes across the Ganry Ranch and gets attacked by a large monster.

That's about it for the characters for now, I'm still finishing up some details on others.

Features
Well, to be honest, the system is 100% standard RMXP right now, but I'm working on learning scripting so I can fix some things up myself. The features I'm hoping to have are:

Help Wanted (http://rmrk.net/index.php/topic,9705.0.html)

And, that's pretty much it. I'll update as it comes along.

looks good. I can see that you don't want to say too much of the story, don't worry that shouldn't be a problem since I did the same with my game. Anyways this game will be made using 2k3" is that right?

No, XP, but I plan on using a script or two to bring back a few of the 2k3 features I was fond of, like the side-view battle system. 2k3 is just a little too clunky for me to use, in my oppinion.

EDIT: Whoops, just noticed I forgot to list a feature I plan on adding. I just put it up on the features list.

Posted a few, they're all small maps, I tend to only do large maps with towns and the world map.

mapping looks good, just one thing inside the cave, make the cliffs at different elevations, it adds more to your mapping.  ;D

Oh, I plan on it in other rooms of the cave, that's just the first room, and I need it more easily accessible, hence the single elevation. ^-^

Thanks for the criticism. :D

It has a reasonable start, looks good, characters seem to be original, i agree with Nouman, your cave looks grand, but some extra elevtion would add a more eerie feeling, as if the cave was real, Scripting is not easy, but alot of the scripts you are using can be found here or at DubeAlex, FF lvlup system isn't that good, but thats just my opinion, remember dont make a game too cliche , one or two are fine if you can cover them, im looking forward to this i'll play it for sure

I try to steer clear of cliche's wherever possible, which is why I'm trying to keep away from the "valiant hero saves the world from some grand evil" type storyline. Also, I didn't like the EXACT working of the FFX level system, but I did like the concept of being able to spend your levels on things instead of getting set things at level ups, that way you have a little more choice in how your characters develop.

Also: New map. Please note, there are a few things I wound up adding later, and I changed a few things, but it looks pretty much the same.

mapping looks great for the most part, just a little empty. From what you have made on the map, looks great. Take a look at the "Ganry Ranch" It seems there is way too much empty space.

Yeah, it kinda looks like that, but it's just a basic map overview. There's all sorts of stuff around (people walking around, birds flying overhead, it all lags my computer because my ram + gfx card suck XD), so it won;t look so empty when you're actually playing it. Notice how there aren't even doors? That's because a good majority of the stuff is events. I probably should have mentioned that earlier, haha.

Yep. No "Adventures of this anD that: This person's Journey" for me. lol.

I like it, especially considering it has something to do with a key turning point in the game. But that's all I'm going to say about it. ;)

Glad to hear. I'm hoping to have a (albeit short and relatively incomplete) demo up by the end of January. It should wind up including the three characters currently shown in the initial post, but I'll no doubt be using mostly RTP sprites.

Yeah, I haven't finished the story entirely, I've only gotten the basic idea, and the details at the beginning (demo), but I'm slowly coming up with the later details.

I'm pretty good for now, but if I need any help in the future, I'll keep you in mind. Thanks for the offer! ^-^

Also, I'm getting my friend to do up some character sketches for me, I'll post some scans when he's done.
