I just started making this game last week using RPG Maker XP and its a combination of harvest moon and the sims. You can fulfill your needs like hunger as well as take care of animals and plants crops and gain skill lvls like in the sims.
I just ran into a huge problem, I have a day advance system to move onto the next day, and if u use it about 8 times RMXP says "The call of the common event exceeded the upper limit". I dont wanna axe the day advance feature cause thats how harvest moon is. Is there a script that can break the number of common events that can be used?
And i will get some screenshots and demo up later. ;D
A sim's like game? with house building and stuff?
Yes I may think about implementing a buy/build mode, which i do not think has been done ever b4 in an RMXP game. But do u have any ideas on how to break the limit of the common event? I didnt think it was possible, and how awesome would it be to have a buy/build mode custom made? lol. sweet.
which day and night system are you using? there are a few out there so can we get a link to the exact script.
Oh I used a custom clock menu that i made using macromedia fireworks, and made it all work with the use of the variable and show picture commands. I will post my little demo so u can understand exactly what i did.
I did it this way cause i am just awful with using RGSS Scripting. Man i really need to learn. lol

I made a game I called Castlez that did a build / buy feature. It was insane to program. I programed maybe a month and it took people maybe 5 minutes to build. It was not worth the time or effort for the small payoff (in my opinion).

Here is the little demo download link - http://www.nitroshare.com/v/9477842/1163209773950.rar.html
Its not very good right now but i just need u to use the advance time or advance day command like 8 times in a row. You will see the message im talking about. U can do those commands from the players bed while playing.
I do have a little idea for your game. If you cant buy like single peices because it will be too much work. how about UPGRADE your house. Such as:
Upgrade 1: Sofa Couch TV etc...
Upgrade 2: Sofa Couch TV Kitchen Bathroom
Upgrade3: etc.. etc.. etc...
And to do these. Add Events. And if you can't be bothered to waste time. Creat a new map for each upgrade and in the village wherever. Set a New Event Page on the event to teleport to the new Upgraded House.
And also need money and logs like Harvest Moon to do the Upgrade.
add me to the credits for my idea :D
Yea thats a good idea, i tried that way back in rpg maker 2k days, didnt turn out how i wanted. lol.
Hopefully with the flexibilty of rpg maker xp i can now make this upgrade thing work.
Nice job!
Making a game like the sims will be very hard I asume. Why don;t you try and make a normal RPG, but include in it sim like features, such as buy house and stuff, maybe make a game like Fable, but if you can pull this off i will be impressed MUCH! goodluck ;D
Im a noob to making graphics for my game but i am assuming that my stat bar menu that i have made for this game is not so bad. Not to mention all i did was use call common event to make the bars and timer work. I am smart to do that cause i had trouble with this for awhile, before i put them as parallel process with a switch, that made it way to slow.
I will also be adding some awesome unique things to the game that will make it just a lot more fun.
For starters I will be adding a pet collection system, very similar to that of Legend of Mana. And I will be adding some special appearances by well known video game characters, hmm say maybe even Cloud Strife from FF7.
Here are some sample screenshots for my game :

All on screen pics were made by me (besides the pics under the stat bars, credit goes to the urbz.) They are not to bad for a noob at graphic design. ;D
Sounds like a difficult project, good luck on it

Thanks for believing in me. ;D
I must admit though this is the hardest project I have ever made. I am currently using way more pics than I have ever used before. lol. ;)
Currently I am working on a socializing system so you can build a relationship with the main NPCs. In my sample screenshot #5, it shows my socializing system while talking to Cloud Strife.
My next demo will have a sample taste of my socializing system. I am hoping to get this demo out within the next week to week and a half. Lets hope for the best.
Oh and by the way, is the game download working? I'm not sure if i included all the correct files to play it.
Looks good
May I say this sounds awesome! :o Good luck. Oh and if this is considered bumping...I'm sorry.
no, bummping is when you post jibberish under your OWN post, to get attention
Good game idea. Sounda hard though. I have respect for you just trying this. That doesn't mean I have no faith in you. I think you'll do this.
Good luck!
Sounds cool, I know it must be alot of variables and im sure its alot mroe difficult to make a simz game using rpg maker than an rpg, so i congradulate you jsut for trying, i hope its great!
You should use Megaupload to upload your game in the future.
