This topic was pretty popular before, but got lost when the forums went down...
I think I covered all the majore series'... if not, that's why I have the "Other" option, as a failsafe.
i never played any of these , so i'll go for other...
Urm ..i think nfs is good after underground 1...
Age of empires world of warcraft arent bad either.
Mostly all the series are good, tough to decide
Langrisser, Fire Emblem, Shining. In that order.
ff6 and ff9 are my favorites.
I don't like calling the Final Fantasy series a series of games because they're not inter-related at all. =\
Also, would have voted Xenosaga/Xenogears if they had actually done the series correctly, but they keep pulling the funds for it because it's such a massive storyline and it's taking so long to get it out.
I really wanted to see where Xenogears and Xenosaga connected.
Seriously, if I get rich, I'm gonna get in touch with those guys and be like "here's money, this time do it right."

How can anyone not have played
any of these?
NOne of them are popular.
Though like me friend has FF7, he;s giving it to me for downloading lol...
Is it good>
Edit: Oh yeah sorry, i have played Mario @_@
None of them are... popular? Did you even look at the poll choices?
You dont find em aruond here...true..
YUS Final Fantasy is in the lead
I voted for Zelda, Dragon Warrior, and Shining Force. Now that I've had time to think about it, I should have voted "other" instead of SF, because... Halo... you haven't put Mega Man on that list!!! I kind of just voted for SF because it was there...
I did play 1 game of megaman..
Castlevania would be another good series to add to the options.
Nightwolf, you need to venture out into the world and play some of these games, foo'!!
NO, really is FF 7 a good choice?
Noe according to what I hear, but I haven't played it so I couldn't tell you.
Oh FF7 is a real good choice if your into RPG's. It's actually really good and addicting. The only thing I don't like is it's villain...everything else is great. The character's also don't get very many things to seperate them from one and other but that's a different matter.
FF and the tales series for me. I don't really have a favorite..
FF7 is a mediocre RPG. Yes, it's all around good, which is always nice if you're an RPG fan, but theres really nothing special about it.
Resident Evil owns all.
Tales of ... is damn close though.
Tales of Symphonia is one of my favorite games ever... but I couldn't bring myself to vote for the Tales series in this poll because my only experience with the series as a whole is Symphonia and the SNES Phantasia. I'd love to play Abyss, but I'll never get the opprotunity to unless it is released on GCN (<3<3<3 Kousuke Fujishima's character design, if you couldn't tell).
Then again, following that logic, I probably shouldn't have voted for DW because I've only played the first 3. Although DW3 is also one of my favorite games ever. And I've only played 1 & 2 of Shining Force... and Shining Soul 2, and Climax Landers (if that counts).
Oh. So...you never played Dragon Warrior IV, or V !!?? They were the best in the series!! especially V which was the only one which got me hooked on it. I accidentaly erased my ROM though and all of it's files...and I have never played it since.
Mario and Metal Gear. AND WHY IS MEGAMAN NOT LISTED?!
I totally already pointed that out.
Zelda and Mega Man are the greatest series...es... of all time.
Zelda is more than awesome.
AwesomenessZelda
Metal Gear was also great.
Zeldaawesomeness
MegaManrobots,woot
only problem with zelda, N64 games are really hard to play on a keyboard with all the C's and the Z and trying to do joystick movements with arrowkeys
Lol, that's true! Castlevania 64 - The Legacy of Darkness was also quite hard to play on the keyboard. Not to talk about Forsaken 64! I wasn't able to beat it on keyboard without cheats. :-\
I managed to beat megaman 64 on my keyboard during the summer
I find it ridiculous that no one has mentioned Kirby yet.
Yeah. The Kirby series wasn't actually awesome, but always fun to play and quite addictive. If I'm not wrong I have played every Kirby game before the N64 including Kirby 64.
Kirby games weren't awesome when they came out but they are still really fun when you go back and play them again
The fact that every Kirby game ever made retains the same quality and addiction makes it awesome to me.
was a little annoying at some parts where you had to have a certain form of kirby to get past and the only spot to get that form was 20 minutes back
Especially if you didn't EXACTLY know which form you need. I found myself in a level where the crystal was at the very end. I played it like 5 times through until I've had THE right form, lol!

Dude, C:LoD was one of the sole reasons we downloaded an N64 emulator! Some of the platforming using a keyboard was IMPOSSIBLE. All I can say is that without save states, I would have, like, thrown my keyboard across the room in frustration.
Kirby is awesome. I've used the cute graphics in art projects and stuff. ;D
Are you kidding me?? Final Fantasy!
Ohh..I forgot about Kirby. Kirby is a cool pink ball...he also has nice games. MegaMan as well- we can't forget him.
Other fav series: armored core

Lol, a few good games in the series don't make the entire series kick ass. xD
Tell that to the other 6 people who voted for it.
I just found this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_computer_and_video_games) on Wikipedia. Looks like the best-selling video game series of all time looks something like this:

I'm surprised to see Halo so low down that list. Look at it... it's below Mega Man, but above Super Smash Bros! Wow!
Looks like nintendo retains the lead, though.

Why are The Sims and Madden above Zelda?

No Tales of... on that list T_T
probably cause they're popular games avialable on alot of systems while zelda is avialable only on nintendo.
Well, Tales isn't as popular as it would seem, apparently...
Those are worldwide sales, remember, and almost none of the Tales games were released outside of Japan until the last few years.
Also remember that these are sales. Bootlegs don't count, which is how most people have played Tales games in the past. XD
Mario was the first of the game series, no wonder it was sold at most. But you have to admit, it was a good series. I am surprised, there is no Diablo there, lol!
Yes there is. :?
Oops. >.<
I find it interesting that the highest ranking franchise, Mario, has sold nearly twice as many millions as the second highest. That's pretty... significant.
Final Fantasy Rocks :kefka: :zidane:

Well, they made the perfect game. Simple, inviting, and happy, anyone can play it. AND YET...Some of the levels become diabolically difficult, the enemies invincible, and the levels become an endless maze of torture! (referring to a CERTAIN CASTLE in Mario Brothers 3, world 8.)
In short, it's what everyone never knew they wanted.
not only that, but the mario fanchise is so all emcompassing, besides just super mario brothers and mario 64 and all those other mario platform games, u have mario kart, mario party, mario tennis, dr. mario, mario basketball (whatever it was called), mario golf, and all the luigi, wario, and yoshi spin-off games...
as long as each game was at least somwhat successful, the sheer amount of games in this series makes it...well, alot of money
I think I am the only person ever that hates mario.
I almost pointed out that I don't like those games either, but I don't really hate Mario. The sidescrolling platforming just can't hold a candle to other platformers like Mega Man, Mischief Makers, or Vecorman...
Toad should star in his own game. He's awesome.
I personally ONLY like one of the choices above: the Final Fantasy series. xD
I would say the Kingdom Hearts series, but the storyline of the sequel dissappointed me a lot....And the storyline is what attracts me to games, not too much gameplay, but Halo is the only exception.
Where is your avatar from? I know I've seen it before in some manga series.

I never really understood that outlook. I play games for fun. If I were looking for a good story I'd probably just read a book.

i think a good game needs both. u cant just have uuber good gameplay but a crap ass john hero saves the world for jack everyvillian storyline, but u can't have perci i seven takes on the great warriors of the cositon marxus (more complicated plot here) and have gameplay that makes rock-paper-sizzors seem fun. u need both for it to be fun.
I don't feel like reading all the post but did anyone say Star Ocean? those were good games.... I dought anyone said Golden sun... I don't know if that can be a series, there is only two games... GOLDEN SUN was my favorite rpg... and Turok! you can't forget turok! really you can't those were good first person shooters... I haven't played the later ones... but I liked the first two...
EDIT- Is there a game called Tales of... or did you forget how to spell the neckst word?

Sure, but a game without a good story is just plain. Why are you watching movies then? You should be amazed by the moving pictures and special effects already, since if you want a good story, go and read a book. So movies with a bull of a story are good movies in your eyes?

I highly disagree. A really fun game doesn't need a compelling plot. You won't be bored because the game is actually fun. This of course assume that the game wouldn't waste time making you watch long scenes about the boring plot because then the gameplay wouldn't be fun because half of it involves sitting through text.

A movie that is extreamly appealing to the eyes could make up for lack of story, yes. People love art, which only occasionally tells a whole story. Visual appeal can be just as exciting as a good story. I don't really see how this relates to video games though, as video games have yet another aspect that movies do not. They're interactive. You play them. Thats what makes them unique. Thats what makes them exciting.

Tales of Destiny
Tales of Legendia
Ducktales
Seriously. It's not just an opinion. I am right. Theres really no room for debate here. Or are you saying that all early games and pretty much every arcade game is a piece of crap? Games are about GAMEplay. Without gameplay they are not games. It is their primary fuction. Sure, a boring game with a great story might keep someone playing, but they won't be having fun. It's not a good game. Games are games at the foremost. They should be fun to play, not fun to read, not fun to watch, not fun to listen to, but fun to play.
It's rather funny that everyone loves Nintendo and their games and yet tries to disagree with me on this. Nintendo's goal is to focus on and pioneer gameplay. They want to make games fun for everyone to play. Take a series like Mario or Zelda or Metriod: they have very little if any story at all, but fun addicting gameplay. Everyone loves them. I don't see how you can even think that I might be wrong here. =/
games without good plots just have to have really really good game play to make them worth playing through more than 2 levels
not true in the slightest. I seriously get sick of story in gameplay, cept for megaman, since capcom is so secretive.

it is just an opinion. I never liked old arcade games. Now I'm not saying I like games with good storyline and lousy gameplay, but without a good storyline games get boring for me real fast. This is my OPINION of what kind of games I like. you, of course, deserve ur own.
I think they need either... if they don't have good gameplay then they need a good story... no good story, then they need good gameplay. But the best is when they have both! ;D
you idiots, GRAPHICS ARE EVERYTHING!!!!!

i agree with BOE, in the sense that they are equal and in fact need to e together to form a good harmony...or whatever.
I'm with Gilga on this one. It's the reason why FFX is the only Final Fantasy game I've ever played all the way through.
I agree with Gilgamesh on this one, but I understand that it's just one opinion among many.
