Title: Binary
Post by: veltonvelton on October 16, 2006, 04:54:14 PM
youd be surprised how many people dont know this-
How to read and write binary

Lets start with base 2. (1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64)(Notice doubles)

To make, say, number 76, the binary is:
64    32    16    8    4    2    1    0
1      0      0     1    1    0    0    0

You MUST make sure that there is either a 1 or a 0 in one column, so, knowing that...

(1*64)+(1*8)+(1*4)=76      So /\ means 1 64, 1 8, and 1 4. all the rest have 0s becuase the amount of that number in the equation is 0.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

So where does the debate come in?

Wether or not this topic should be here, that's where.

Somebody should lock this topic until velton³ learns the XS-3 binary code or at least the Grey binary code. ::)

haha, true...

but I thought it should be:

128    64    32    16    8    4    2    1
  0       1      0      0     1    1    0    0

(no "0")

so 76 in base 2 would be 01001100 (or 1001100)
and not 10011000

(and if I'm wrong...then I'll just feel stupid)

We already learned that in elementary school. (Note that elementary school in Croatia is 8 grades and then comes something that is called middle school and can be 3 or 4 additional grades ::))

can you code a rpg maker with binary?  ???
Title: Re: Binary

You can code everything with binary. That's how computers were programmed 50 years ago. Then they invented something called Assembler (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assembler). It allowed making programs for computers without using 0 and 1 (actually they did never type 0 and 1, but used electronic parts to simulate 0 and 1 as they are actually a symbolic notation for electrical signals like voltage (1 is for high, 0 for low)), but commands like words (ADD, SUB, MOV, etc.) Later on came the 3rd generation of programming languages (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3rd_Generation_Language), where you already had many functions like printing, mulitplying (yes, a processor can only add, multlply is made through continuious adding). RGSS is half-way to the 4th generation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4th_generation_language) that are languages that are optimized for a specfic domain of problems (i.e. Mathematica (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mathematica))

Thats why kids, If you havent already, always study mathematics. Its simple, fun, and you cant do anything without it.
