Ok did you guys know that the keyboard layout used to today is actually inefficent.... it was ment for typewriters for a reason. Basicly what happens is the most used letters
frequently used pairs of letters are seperated to keep the typebar from jamming
somehow this setup carried over to computers
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QWERTY
Yep. I knew about this a while ago. That's why a lot of people (read: supergeeks) have switched over to Dvorak.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dvorak_Simplified_Keyboard
Personally, I believe in the power of Qwerty, cause like... I'm so totally used to it, and losing my 70 wpm to switch to a new style of keyboard would seem like a huge sacrafice to me
YAY! DT IS BACK!
And i think we all use Qwerty...
its not soo bad?
I agree with DT, I don't type correctly (chicken type I think) and it seems to work out ok.
I still use it also... but just think in 30 years people are going to be laughing about our primitive keyboards
It just seems that a quick fix for a problem has followed us to where it's not a fix anymore
I used to go to a porn site called qwerty.

That's nice, dear. *pets him on the head*
May I have a cookie too?
It's taken me this long to master a QWERTY. While Dvorak is appealing, I'm way too lazy to learn a different setup.

No.
Anyway, I personally love my Qwerty keyboard.
Wasn't there a character in Perfect Dark named Dr. Dvorak or something? The mission objectives made you think you were rescuing a scientist guy, but it turned out to be a floating computer...
What about a soda?
You know you're just spamming it up lol.
I've liked mastered my keyboard, i can type eye-closed
(literally)
I can tupe without lookins at the computer or keyboard. I;m doinf it rifht noe.
Okay, that didn't work out as well as I wanted it to. Not too bad, though.

I'd give you some spam, but it looks like you've had enough for one thread.

Indead I am also too lazy to learn a new setup. I just thought the computing section could use some activity.
I have QWERTZ. =P
That is a fucked up keyboard, yo. What did you do, melt it?
Lol, no. German/Croatish keyboards are QWERTZ instead of QWERTY. Actually every language has a slightly different keyboard. Look, what I have here as a normal key: ß (that´s a german letter)
I would switch, but I learned how to type with this keyboard, and I don't see any major companies switching.

He does that on purpose to be special, but Blizzard probably has the normal apostraphe key somewhere too.
*cough* Ahem.. well to get back on subject, it does seems like a nice layout, but what about a layout for l33t speak. Maybe they should just replace the e key with a 3 etc. etc.
There's probably an overlay for that...
That's would be awesome, the |337 |4'/0(_)7
what that mean?
the second one,

Lol, am i the only one that uses an AZERTY keyboard?
Probably.
AZERTY is way cooler! Only counterstrike doesn't support AZERTY, so when i want to type ',' it displays 'm' and so on...

I tried out a Dvorak keyboard. Man, did that feel weird.
Have you ever seen a Japanese keyboard? The keys have three commands each instead of two. I can't help wondering about the dynamics of that.

Most laptops have that as well, Yossy. There are shift functions, and then FN key functions, though not on every key.
For example, there's no numberpad on a laptop, so they place one over on the right side of the keyboard. Over
7 8 9 0
u i o p
j k l ;
m . /
When the shift key is pressed, they become
& * ( )
U I O P
J K L :
M > ?
and when the FN key is pressed, those keys become
7 8 9 /
4 5 6 *
1 2 3 -
0 . +

This keyboard has issues.
Actually, that keyboard hardly looks well made to be honest.
I used to have a keyboard that was split down the middle, the keys were seperated and slightly to an angle. When I started I was a crap typer, and when I finally got rid of it maybe 4 years later, I had the typing speed I have now :3
QWERTY does fine for me, I can keep up a decent amount of letters typed in a second pretty easily, which is fine for me. Plus it'd be pretty gay to be into any other keyboard layout when the rest of the world uses QWERTY, you suck on almost any keyboard ever except your own.

I was thinking about how stupid it would be not to use qwerty... then I thought "hey i'll post about it in the QWERTY topic on crankeye...."
Some of the recent mac laptops allowed you to rearrange the keys and layout settings
Lol Maltron... This is also an Maltron: http://www.maltron.com/images/press/maltron-mouthstick-keyboard1.jpg

They are special designed keyboards though.
The first one is designed for people using a mouthstick for typing.
The second one is designed for people only able to use their left hand.
So isn't it possible that the one shown before are for people with semi-crippled hands?
I wouldn't like to change to Dvorak.
There is the issue with most keyboards being QWERTY
There also is the issue with me, when programming, giving my class and variable names designed for QWERTY. <- Super nerdy :dog:
I would hate to change them.

Dude, those Maltron keyboards are awesome.
I'm sticking with mah qwerty, because I'm just lazy.
Yeah, same here. ;D
QWERTZ rulez.
If you used QWERTY for long long long, then it's a stupid decision to go for a new typing style, with a new keyboard, cause your fingers get used to the keys, you would start typing everything wrong.
For instances, I can now type blind with nearly no mistakes, however, if I get a new keyboard (Even if it's an other Qwerty) I have to get used to it, I'll start making typo's and such. I hate it. So I am staying with my new keyboard, that's now like 10 years old (It still types like a baby, I lub it :P)
You wub it, eh?
Apparently so. Donkeys are cool.
