Post by: TheBodge on March 28, 2006, 11:02:10 PM
Religion (google discription):
a strong belief in a supernatural power or powers that control human destiny.

Do you belive in supernatural powers? If so let us know which one it is.

Please try and keep all posts clean, respect others belives and don't mock religions even if it has not been stated that someone has the religion you are refering to, thanks have fun.

Wow..Why the hell was mine locked up and yours wasn't?
I said religion was stupid because it was my opinionBlues opinion is i should die no one locked that topic intul i wrote YEAHH! And hes like "Shut up"
And lots of religions don't have supernatural powers.Take mine for example.
Scientology. The study on how humans evolved from animals. At least its better then those dumb religions like this: "We chose this religion because we have no other religion so yeah our religion means no religion also welcome."

At the moment I have no religion. I was brought up Catholic, but I decided that... well, it wasn't for me, just to put it nicely.

Right now I'm an agnostic, meaning I have no religion, but don't deny the existence of God.

EDIT: He said it was just a definition of religion, meaning that's the basic meaning of all religions. And if you still have no idea why your topic was locked, and you're going to be like this, then don't post here. I told you why it was locked in your topic. Read it again if you still don't understand.

Its wierd how I listen to dream theater and senses fail when they are both christian bands and i deny the existence to god.

><

Dream Theater isn't considered a Christian band by any means. But save that for another topic.

In the name of god,When I die.
They aren't a christian band mainly BUT they make some christian songs.
Like heres one of the words to When I die which is in Metropolis.

"I used to be scared of death
but if i die tommarrow
i wouldn't care
because i believe when you die
the spirit carries on
flying to the heavens with god"

I am not gonna go on cause it can start an arguement. But if you want the EXACT words:
If I die tomorrow
I'd be allright
Because I believe
That after we're gone
The spirit carries on
And lets not forget the silent man!

Ok im going to far..

Ok im the only one who voted yes for religion. My religion is a religion that believes we evolved from animals.Scientology...Its still a religion even though it has no churches or temples. And if you are an Athiest you should have voted YES cause guess what its still a religion!

I'll say this, and then no more talk of this in this topic:

Just because God and heaven are mentioned in a non-negative (doesn't mean positive) way, that doesn't make them a Christian band. If that were the case, there would be more Christian bands than any other type of band.

In The Name Of God has a deeper meaning if you read into it, and in fact, has been said by Mike Portnoy, to be a song AGAINST religion. But even moreso, it's just a song about religious wars.

Anymore talk of Dream Theater here will result in the post being deleted.

A strong ?

I have a slight belief in god... probably because the rest of my family are all atheists...

I used to have a strong belief in him but it kinda weakened after making quite a few prayers (maybe somewhere around 10) and none of them came true.  Don't even remember them anymore XD

Anyway as far as I can tell I'm just plain Christian.  I believe in Christ, and that he was some sort of special guy but now that I've grown up a bit disbeliefs and the Jews constant assualt on my beliefs (Evil jews! One of my best friend sis jewish...).

Let's assume for a moment that God is in fact real. I repeat, we're assuming, for those that need it said twice.

He can't sit around all day and answer people's prayers, then people would never leave him alone about wanting this and that. Plus, it would make people jaded. Life isn't about getting what you want.

It's sort of like when the weather is nice and comfortable, and sunny, and you want it to be like that all the time. But if it was, you'd get really bored with it. Or how people who celebrate Christmas want it to be Christmas everyday. That's a better example.

All I'm saying is, just because your prayers weren't answered is a silly reason not to believe in God. Well, that's my opinion anyway. There are plenty of other reasons not to believe.

So..Why should we assume if we have a different opinion?
I totally kno what you mean but why do you have to say that to everyone?
Title: Religion (2)
Post by: haloOfTheSun on March 29, 2006, 03:46:57 AM
It was directed to Deathtrooper. The first line was addressed to everyone, so no one would say something like, "You said before you don't believe in God, but now you're saying he exists", type of thing.

yeah, Jew here...

anyways, I believe god put us here to make earth our own heaven, and that we cant pray to him for everything. we need to do what we can, then maybe pray for things that arent in our power. PM me if you want to hear about my belief in fate

i voiced my opinion about it already
failing to see anyone capable of proving to me the a being that is unmatched and there is nothing stronger than him (aka god)
i would stick to my theory of the endless chain of power thus saying that there is an endless amount of universes covering each other while everything is small compared to another, and the big forms cannot enter the smaller universes and are not aware of their existance or the existance of the bigger

while not being sure where this chain ends, i am positive about the concept that a being from outside this unvierse couldn't possibly talk to wannabe germs on earth from the human ape race such as you can't talk you the germ on your table.

in other words, religions are based on a bunch of lies meant for the sole need to have law and order.
now that there is law and order the false god still exists as an excuse to hate and kill other human apes.

Religions are bad as they can be the cause of violance.

People kill each other everyday because they worship who has been dead for a long time...

dead people can only make more dead people ZOMG ZOMBIES

Religion makes me puke. One time some fucked up catholic preach ran up to me and he told me "You religion is total crap" Which pissed me off because he believes that some god appeared out of nowhere and I believe in any sane way example mixture between elements.
Then they gave me a lecture on sunday morning in front of the whole church.
Those guys got some guts..

Hrmm..Well for me I have two view points...the one I was raised with and the one I developed when I started actually thinking about it.  If you think about a religon, specifically the one your were raised around you tend to develop a conditioned response to it.  Such as saying bad things about say Christ, Mohammad, etc you kinda get this feeling like in the pit of your stomach that says what you did was wrong or at least I do.  I was told when I was young that it was God or the Holy Spirit telling me what I was doing was wrong...but as I grew older I wondered why ppl of different religons didnt have the same response whenever they said G.D. or something of that nature.
It wasnt until I talked to a Buddhist friend of mine did I discover that he had the same kind of bad feeling in his stomach whenever he said bad things concerning his religon.  Hence I concluded that maybe it wasnt God or w/e but simply me fretting over something I was raised to not do.  That is when I started doubting not just my religon but all religons as a whole and began thinking about their origins and their uses in society.  It made sense to me that religons were developed to tame the masses and to give them something to believe in.  Through religons countless dictators and rulers have been able to manipulate their ppls into doing w/e it is they wanted.  Religon is a very powerful political weapon in my mind.
Religon as a whole however isnt a bad thing I think.  It gives ppl hope, it sets moral codes for ppl to live and be happy.  As a whole I think religon is a good thing for ppl...but as I grow older I tend to lean on it less and less as a guide to what is going to happen to me when I die.  Keep in mind this is just my opinon and I mean no offense to those of you who are religious  :|

Personally I am non-religious.

However, I think everyone should practice whatever they want to belive, and what makes them happy.

That said, I am very much against organized religion. I think people should study/practice their religion at home, with their family, maybe with a group of friends who belive the same thing. Churches and other large religious gathering places are basically giant brainwashing factories. People tell you what to think, and how to interprete the religion. In private you would be able to study your own religion, and surmise for yourself what you think about things.

Esentially, private study of religion provokes thought, while organized religion supresses it.

Info On Genesis (Bible omg):

We're all in knowledge of the Adam and Eve saga, right? The had sex, forming a boy... and a girl. What happens next? They have sex...

Bible promotes incest. Sick.

Yeah... Eh... One of many reasons why I'm not relogious, the bible is mainly written by some drunk pirate or something, then passed it onto a mermaid. OH WAIT? THEY DON'T EXIST EITHER? Oh, okay. My bad.
