Title: Timer Help Please...
Post by: Andromeda on March 28, 2006, 02:48:49 AM
Is there a way to hide the timer when it runs? (w/out script)

Edit: It's for my DNS event system.

Best is you forget that. I developed my DNS without it. First I also thought about a timer based DNS, but then I realzed, I never ever could make events with using the timer then...

Hmmmmm....did the DNS without timer? Did you use the wait command or something?

Yeah. I used a two counter variables for the day/night progress, 2 switches to recognize day and night and what counter should count and another 3, that say if I am outside, inside or inside dark places. That all mixed up in a 3 common events, and that

Interesting, I'll have to try that out and find out how to use variables. Thank you Blizzard.  :)

It looks something like this:

Need some explanation? This is the override from day to night. My interior  based DNS has a message saying "It

If I understand it correctly, you have 15 "second" days....or rather you have it count up to 15 using the variable. And everytime it counts 1 it then waits 200 frames then counts another, and so on until you reach 15, thus night?

Did I get that right or??

I edited my post up there in the meantime. You have 15 x 20 seconds day (my night is shorther than my day). The variable will increase by one every 20 seconds and after it has been 15 times increased it

Thanks for your explanation Blizzard. I think I'll have to try this out (tomorrow). If I need any help mind if I come calling for you? Man you should make a tutorial for this, it is a really good method. Thanks again.

There's a better way than creating it the way you did:

Note: I've changed the wait from 200 frames to 20 frames and the counter going up to 150 instead of 15. It gives the same delay except that you have to wait 20 frames longer. (I am guessing what the rest of your post is containing.)
I change the wait to 20 frames instead of 200 frames because the parallel process resets each time you teleport to another map.
This could be significant if you have an area with lots of small outside maps linked together.

Blizzard, when I want to override from night to day, I just do the same as you did for your override of day to night, right?

Edit: Hmmmm....I was testing out Day & Night outside just to see if I could get anything to work. So I put in the comm event just like how you did (or so I think), but it didn't go night.... Do you know where I could have gone wrong?

Yeah. And the same other way. When you make the inside event, just copy-paste this, remove the screen tint and set a screen tint at the beginning: (0,0,0,0) Now you

Alright, I get that last part and I understand the middle of the event, but for some reason it isn't going night for me (day & night outside). I'm not sure if I'm starting it correctly.... help..... please..... hehehe

Blizzard, sorry that even though I now have the event I am still requesting help. (lol) Anyway, so I put outside switch ON, but it never ends up going to night. Let me explain my start:   You start off in the intro, blah blah, and then you begin in a tavern/inn thing. On the event starting you there should I turn on outside AND inside? or just outside? etc...... Or should I turn outside on when I leave the building?

Edit: In short....even after looking at your maps I don't quite get the "starting it all up phase."

Double Edit: Heh, got it nvm.
