Title: The essentials needed to a good game
Post by: astrobrat on June 18, 2005, 11:49:26 PM
These are just some stuff you probably want to have to make your game super great!

1. A title...Duh.

2. A basic overview of what you want your game to be. Is it set in the time of magic or guns? Will most of the maps be underwater, or underwear? What will the hero's name and class be? What classes or species will be in the game?

3. Now you need a plot. A plot is the "story" of the game leading to why you are doing what. An example could be that an evil demon is terrorizing the realm, and you want to stop it so you can become famous. Another example is that a bad-guy just killed your dad, and you want revenge. It is good to think of your own, new ones.

4. Some games have choices the people can make. Most people like choices so that the character defines them. For instance, if somebody liked being a holy paladain, they wouldn't want there character to be a thief. You should make choices that you can do that effect your character' sbehavior in the game.

5. Most good games need a community so that you can easily distribute news, or see the public's oppinion. Crankeye is a good forum, but you will probably need more then one thread. So you might want to consider having your own forum. I suggest trying www.proboards.com or www.invisionfree.com

6. You might want a website also. They are useful for people to find past news and screenshots of your game. Even downloads. I don't know any sites however, but you can ask around or try Google. If you find a good one tell me :)

7. People don't want to see the same boring sprites and chipsets in every game. They like it when they see something new ( as long as its good ). This is the reason there is a "Rescources" area on the forum. Go there every once in a while, and request some sprites, battle graphics, chipsets, etc. Or, if your brave, try making your own. It is newness that couts.

8. The same on #7 goes for custom music and sounds. These also get boring after 5 or 6 games of hearing the same one. Try going to the rescource section and looking/requesting some. There are even some sites that let you create your own music. I know you can do it!

I will continue adding if I think of more.

here, I was nice enough to translate( managed to understand most of this but used a translator for some of it)

QuoteSo, therefore, to make good plays apart from the physical and visual aspect that one can observe it is necessary also a good well tied up scenario.  The difficulty is there, because I believe in my humble opinion that most of the good scenario already arrived, nevertheless the imagination of the creator will make the difference we are all different and this is why certain scenarios will be better than others.  As for the graphic aspect it is necessary to leave the batch, to leave this impr

I think, what she meant was that a good game isn't based upon essentials at all, it is all in the eye of the beholder 8)

For forums I mostly use http://www.forumotion.com, I even made a forum for my community there. it's great one, and sure it easy to run with the control panel.

4 years ago, we saw "The essentials needed to a good game" die. Now it's BACK for REVENGE!

Don't necropost. The link is sort of advertising, but since the original post included links of the same nature, I'll regard it as innocent.

It was accidental necroposting, unlike fuzzthedog, who probably did intentional necroposting.
