Our house had a pretty bad brown recluse infestation. And while technically accurate, I feel like saying "venomous" spiders makes them sound worse than they are. They can definitely do some serious tissue damage if you don't go to the hospital early enough, but I wouldn't put it on par with say, black widows.

I had a friend who didn't go soon enough. Lost a fist sized chunk of his shoulder. Gross. I mean I feel bad, but really gross.

spiders are good because they keep harmful pests out  :)

the family did not understand how fortunate they were :) :)

Holy hell, that's...horrifying. And I thought my annual war with banana spiders was bad.

I wouldn't necessarily say that. Both spiders are very dangerous, but their bites have different symptoms. Black widow venom is a neurotoxin, whereas brown recluse venom is a hemotoxin, so the bites themselves don't look as bad as those of a brown recluse. But instead of tissue damage and necrosis, you get vomiting, muscle rigidity, and other fun neurotoxin stuff. :B

I know a thing or two about spiders.

True, but personally, I see tissue damage as something you could still potentially drive yourself to the hospital for, or in the case of an elderly person, could still call an ambulance. Neurotoxin symptoms are a bit trickier if you're on your own.
