I thought this was a joke at first.
I don't understand, whats the point?
I believe it's for people who can't play with the 3D turned on - because of the headache thing, or because they're too young and their parents aren't competent enough to disable the 3D or whatever.
It makes sense, it gives you access to the same games (minus that one feature) for a lower price.
I don't understand why they made it unfoldable. Or shaped it like a slice of cake.
From what I hear, it's for kids. Because-
1. The 3d is supposedly bad for their eyes.
2. The hinges are the easiest part of the DS to break.
3. Cheaper to make.
nintendo says they're reaching out to a new market by making a more tablet like ds, basically just trying to get people who don't play the ds (for all the above reasons as well as not caring) to get one, rather than people who have a 3ds to purchase another
1) how the shit is that gonna fit in anyone's pockets
2) huh
3) just turn off the fucking 3d
4) pockets are not cargo bays
5) punk
Nintendo is so genius, but well the same goes for Microsoft or Sony. ;)
The new generation is pretty bad. The PS4 needs now a membership to play online, the Xbox One needs Kinect in order to use it and the WIIU allways lost the Wi-Fi Connection. ;)
I figured that they were just trying to make something cheap to make a quick buck before people grow tired of the 3DS.
Maybe we get a new record of the same "hand hero" (hope it's right) if I think about the GBA and GB variances. PSP could do the same. ;) (\s/)
But well, the 2DS isn't total pointless, because the main group they would reach are childs, so the cheaper it is the more parents would buy it for their kids. ;) /)

People are still watching 3D movies using a technique that was big in the '80s. 3D might be a gimmick, but it's one that lasts a lifetime.
Unless Nintendo keep remaking games instead of giving us original content, I can't see people getting bored of the 3DS before the next generation of handhelds is released. And even then, unless they introduce the jump-out-of-the-screen kind of 3D without the need for glasses, I can safely say I'll still be glued to mine.

ha
I <3 to play in 3D, I bought a screen to play PS3, X360 and PC in 3D. So the 3DS is really cool from this point. :)
I only hope there would be more games like Final Fantasy and such huge RPG games. ;) (\s/)

I'd get a 2DS if it weren't trying to be a tablet. I never use the 3D and it's cheaper than the 3DS. But it looks stupid so I won't.

What? The 3DS is incredibly popular and most people either don't use the 3D or make very little use of it, yet it still sells tons.

I like how animal crossing is on that.
Yeah, the 3D usually just annoys me because it forces me to hold it at a precise angle. I already bought a 3DS though, so I won't buy that. Also, it looks like a door stop.
Also, the 3DS (or 2DS) is worth purchasing for Fire Emblem: Awakening, and Shin Megami Tensei 4 alone. I heard the new Animal Crossing is really good too.
New animal crossing is good, confirmed. I'd...have to admit I'm bored of bug catching by now though. I'm thinking I'm gonna turn in my copy.
Does anyone know if this is like the 3DSXL in terms of screen size? It looks bigger than my 3ds, and I've been contemplating selling my original blue 3ds with ambassadors program for a 3dsXL. I personally don't use 3d too much, so this would be way better for me, and it looks nice imo.

The screen size of the 2DS is the same as the 3DS, it is heavier though, and also has what seems to be a lot less battery duration than the 3DS XL.
Ugh, damn. Just when I thought I could get something new haha

This is a good point. I'm sure it's still better than the Vita.
I tried a Vita once at a Target. I might even have played it a bit, if I hadn't had to wait 3 full minutes for the game to load the first level.
Well, the Vita is cool, but really really expensiv. One memory stick about 90€ that is way to expensiv...
That was why I sold it. ;) (\s/)

^ that
We pretty much got ours for Fire Emblem, and the game was simply awesome. Gameplay-wise, at least.
Though I was really disappointed in the characters overall, because they felt either completely unoriginal, lacked depth, or overused a trait to an annoying extreme. I couldn't quite attach myself to many of them, like I could in the other Fire Emblem games. Still, I really liked the game overall. Especially all the romance pairings. ;_;
At least you can get married and change the hair color of your future child :yuyu:
Don't forget the complete lack of difficulty halfway through the game, and the completely broken characters and mechanics.

Just like every Fire Emblem!
I'm just glad they made it more casual. I'm the type of person who would just let everyone die off because I don't feel like being meticulous, and end up with too few people to manage, at which point I'd have to restart from the very beginning, and repeat ad nauseam. But I guess that makes me the type of person who shouldn't be playing those games anyway.
I'd rather deal with that and restart to keep alive a bunch of characters that I actually care about. :V ('Cause I'm a nerd and have some feelings for pixels apparently).
Either way, I guess it's easy to think of Awakening's characters as disposable, because they really are, if you play casual. Still, I think the option was a good idea for new players. 8) And, yeah, I did really love the hair-color changing kiddos. :P
Chrom is really just Ike with different hair (but less bad ass and more of a do-gooder). Lissa is really just Mist. Frederick is really just Seth. Aaaaaaaaand Cordelia is really just an in-game Mary Sue.
IDK what you guys are all hostile towards the 2DS for, it's really, really nice for people whose hands are way too friggin' big for the tiny little 3DS.
I have both and I really prefer the 2DS. It takes up less space in a purse, easier to hold if you have large hands and it's cute. Cutteeee. I love it.
(also the 3D for migraine sufferers like me is the worst thing ever. instant migraine and then you lie on the ground and cry)
People just think that if they aren't a part of the target audience for a product, then that product is automatically a bad one.

^ Re-quoting because that pretty much hits the nail right there.
All things considered, it seems like the 2DS is selling alright at my store. People seem to like the idea. I've actually been tempted to get one myself. :V Sure, I prefer flip designs, but I would still buy it.
I want one, honestly. I never cared for the 3D aspect anyway.
I still think it looks silly. But if I didn't already have a 3DS I'd get one since it's cheaper and I never use the 3D.
