Title: Headset Reccomendations
Post by: Arrow on August 05, 2013, 02:40:54 AM
In the never ending quest to build the ultimate full media station, I've come upon a need for a headset. I've started streaming video when I play certain games- not to a large group of people. Mostly just the boyfriend and one other person- and I skype call on top of that. Right meow I'm using the crummy little headset that came with my 360 way back in the dark ages, and it's working, but the quality is prettttty shitty.

I don't need something on par with what the game grumps use to record their audio or anything, but I would like to find something nicer. Maybe in the thirty to forty dollar range? I'm willing to go a bit higher if need be. I would want these to last a while, and clarity in audio OUTPUT is more important than audio in my own ear being of high quality. I want a nice microphone so I'm easily understood.

I don't mind something with only one earpiece either. I typically have the game audio running through my surround system anyway, so it really just lets me keep an ear open in case I'm needed away from the desk. Furthermore, if someone has a reccomendation for a microphone, that is also valuable information. I have my sennheiser headphones already and they set me back 200 dollars. That's PLENTY of audio quality. I just need better voice recording quality for skype.

I'm doing research meow on newegg, but I know RMRK has plenty of power pc users, so I wanted your input. That and, well, you're my friends, guys. I value your opinions.  :Vg;

Also, anyone who might know how to make Xsplit Broadcaster and Skype run a little less hot, that would be some great advice. It's...bothering me that I'm hitting 60 ~C degrees with two additional case fans in this bitch.

EDIT: I seem to remember Turtle Beach being a BFD, but that was maybe even as far as eight years ago.

Are these worth the purchase?

I don't know anything about good headphones. D:
What I do know though, stay away from Beatz. Do not even look in the direction of a pair of Beatz headphones.
If a pair enters your house, kill it with fire.

That's still helpful advice. Thank you.

I don't know about headsets, but I have seen the Blue Snowball iCE microphone (http://www.amazon.com/Blue-Microphones-Snowball-iCE-Microphone/dp/B006DIA77E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8) getting good reviews for its price.

I can say Mono headsets are all really bad. ;)
A stereo is a minimum, I recommend Sennheiser, even they are really expensive, I guess they start at 100€ means it's about 135$.
If you don't mind, that the treble are bad, I can recommend you Turtle Beach they are about 60€  it's about 80$.
If you only want it cheap, with an okay microphone that depends on your connection speed then take Logitech they start at 20€ => 30$.
For the PC-case of your PC, simply let it open I do it the same way, it makes it down to 40° before it was 67° so it's much more better. ;)

That price is fucking phenomenal.

I'm gonna sit on it til I get home tonight. If I still feel good about it then, I'll purchase it.

I don't know much about headsets, but yeah, snowball mics are pretty fantastic for the price.

If you're looking for headsets, I recommend this one (http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-JUG-00001-LifeChat-LX-3000-Headset/dp/B000J4WPW8).

I know Cosmo uses this one for when he streams/records, and I have one myself for when I stream/record. It's pretty nice. It's pretty damn cheap, it's pretty comfortable, and the microphone doesn't sound too bad. The sound quality isn't anything special (but not bad at all), but if you're looking for a headset, you probably aren't looking for something with incredible sound quality anyway.
