Title: Open World RPG?
Post by: Long Duck Dong on July 17, 2013, 03:43:47 AM
Hi :D

Just for feedback, is creating an Open World RPG on any RPG Maker program a good idea? If so, what would be the best way to accomplish this?

It'd be a lot of work, for sure. :p I always find that the short-but-sweet games seem to get completed the easiest and played the most (for RPG Maker, that is), especially if there's a lot of custom stuff and an enjoyable story and gameplay involved.

But either way, if the story is great, then that's already the biggest plus in my books~

Hi :D
Hello.

Just for feedback, is creating an Open World RPG on any RPG Maker program a good idea?
IF "This is your first game" = TRUE THEN "No, it is not a good idea."
IF "This if your first game" = FALSE THEN "Yes, go ahead and give it a shot."

If so, what would be the best way to accomplish this?
Proper scripts + Hard work

IF "This is your first game" = TRUE THEN "No, it is not a good idea."
IF "This if your first game" = FALSE THEN "Yes, go ahead and give it a shot."

^ That has a lot to do with it, too, of course. :p Just to expand on that point, it's a really good idea to start small when making an RPG. Sometimes it's just a good idea to make something small, just for the sake of completing a game and winning yourself some points. :p

Hey YuYu, do you you remember that one guy who was going to make "An oblivion / fallout3" style game in VX. He then complained that we weren't helping him (Aka we weren't making the game for him) until he finally gave up and left?
It was about halfway through the whole ordeal, that we learned that it was his first game.  :holk:

Edit: I guess you don't.    .____.

Hmmm I may have heard about that. :p I don't remember exactly what was going on, though. D:

Lesson here: Don't bite off more than you can chew. :drsword:

@Lord Stark: The thing is that I've never "finished" a game. I've created some that would be considered demos and experimented with the program, but never finished one.
