Title: Minecraft v1.8
Post by: tSwitch on September 10, 2011, 04:45:59 AM
It was leaked.
Just thought you guys should know.

Yeah, Mojang leaked it because they wanted it tested.

Granted, he only leaked it to specific people, pre-determined beta testers (BUT WE ARE ALL BETA TESTERS WAAH BLAH BLAH ETC), and I suppose one of those guys actually leaked it to the rest of the public.

They did? I thought they were the ones who posted it on 4chan.

Hmm. I dunno, I'm not 100% sure about any of it. All I heard is that 1.8 was given, by Notch, to specific groups of people for advance testing. And now it's leaked to the rest of the public, so...

Post by: Twb6543 on September 10, 2011, 07:12:56 PM
Mojang and Notch leaked it to the public as well, Notch posted somewhere a link in a public forum (reddit or some where can't remember) and it spread from there.

I'm not sure I'm going to return to minecraft until they release it fully. It's lost its luster for me and even with as much time as I've invested in it, I keep forgetting it's only a beta. It's only become fun to me by being heavily modded, and even then it's gotten kinda stale. I just hope in the end, it turns out well enough because it's such a great concept.

It was leaked in hopes that the Bukkit Dev team and other plugin developers can get their shit together before it's fully released.

Bukkit has full access to the source now. Sorry, but they don't need it. :)

Jeb_ is currently working on the 1.8pre bugs, they should be fixed (mostly) for official release.

Things Jeb_ worked today. (http://pastebin.com/gtAczURg)
1.8-pre update guaranteed tomorrow, possibly more.

At least they fixed the lag from EXP orbs. That was dumb.

It was leaked in hopes that the Bukkit Dev team and other plugin developers can get their shit together before it's fully released.
Bukkit has full access to the source now. Sorry, but they don't need it. :)

My comment was intended to target the plugin developers that use Bukkit, not so much the developers of Bukkit. They do not have the source. So stop haunting me.

I don't really see the point of 1.8. I'm waiting for 1.9, that's going to be the real update. It's going to add NPCs and skills to use the EXP orbs on.
Title: Re: Minecraft v1.8

It's been officially released(Not a pre-release but the official one available through the launcher).

The pre-release didn't change much, but it looks like the official 1.8 release changed a lot.
Title: Re: Minecraft v1.8
Post by: Cascading Dragon on September 14, 2011, 08:02:33 PM
Yeah, there are no real changes (http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Version_history).
Ok. A couple random buildings, a new spider, a crap mod (Ender), and some UI changes. The only thing I thought was good was the hunger bar.
But... come on, no NPCs? Especially since there are more then 5 NPC mods that I know of.
He should have just waited another 3 months (or however long it takes him) to release. It's not adding much of value. (Although, some of the bug fixes and things will help make better mods... But, it's already possible so...)

TDLR: Added unfinished stuff, Notch is lazy.

Improved chest model with a 3D lock and an open state/animation.

"TDLR" You're wrong, deal with it

Title: Re: Minecraft v1.8
Post by: Cascading Dragon on September 14, 2011, 08:45:43 PM
All were already made/fixed in mods. He didn't add anything I didn't already have that I wanted. (Except the Mushroom biome)
Except for Creative mode. I like that. But it's nothing knew.. just something he brought back. (And I could get from a mod)
And have you seen the new chests? Complete shit. It doesn't render right with the light, and it bugs out quite a bit. Yes I have redownloaded it.
So wrong? No.

When you can get mods that have been implemented for over 2 patches now, and do it better? What is the reason to update, really?

Speaking as an asshole, I've got to say he has some points there. I was playing with AMCO and will most likely go back to using it. This update just doesn't gave me enough to walk away from it yet. I don't know, maybe 1.9 will make me give up AMCO, but not yet.

Never played mods, so, enjoying this.

Really, the improved terrain/cave generator algorithms alone is enough to make me fall in love with 1.8. I generated a new world, and it starts me on this island. A somewhat large island, with a lake in the middle. All I can see on any shore is ocean, save for the north shore and the south shore. To the north shore, I see a gigantic mountain jutting out from the sea. I eventually fashioned a boat and went over to check it out, and it turns out that's the mainland, I guess. The mountains are gorgeous. And that's where all the animals are. There are *NO* animals/meat on my island. I had to fish to survive, which was kind of fun.

I went back my home island, and eventually went over to the south shore. Off the south shore is a very tiny island. I figured nothing was there, it's barely big enough for a small log cabin. But I swim over and check it out anyway. Turns out that the center of the island is hollowed out, like a volcano, and under the island is a massive system of caves.

1.8 is full of things like this. I'm having more fun just discovering the world than I ever did in previous versions.

I must say, screwing around with it a little bit, I saw a ravine, and it was pretty awesome. I guess I'll keep a spare jar around for it.

If you place a torch next to a chest it fixes the rendering problem for the ones in distance of it, and from what the website says, there's no main land technically, because you can run in any direction and it generates maps forever and saves them, which is pretty interesting unless you already knew that xD

Also, before it wouldn't let me charge up the bow before shooting it until the last patch I just got, which makes bows a lot more fun. It also moves the camera now while pulling it back.

Anybody know when 1.9's supposed to come out? :P And idk if I want to start 1.8 because 1.9 has new biomes, and new biomes never update unless you make a new world... Unless 1.9 is a LONG way away.

I believe the biome code is fixed to be more backwards-compatible with old maps.  You'd just need to explore farther.

I found out the food meter doesn't deplete with time, only with actions. That's so unrealistic :P

Edit: I found out some other cool stuff also :D

This seed puts you on a small island with one tree: 83350775
I also realized an effective way to find dungeons is by sailing in a large body of water and looking for lighted areas on the ocean floor.

(to the left of boat) It's easier to see when you're moving. It also helps setting FOV and render distance to max.

About 2/3 of the time it's just a lava area but it's a lot easier finding a dungeon this way then digging through tons of mass or wandering for kilometers

A good place to get a handful of what's wrong with the pre-release is the Minecraft subreddit, accessible by reddit.com/r/minecraft. Not everyone loves reddit, but Notch continually reads the reddit and talks to the community there on occasion, so people have taken to posting bugs on there for Notch to gather. From what i've seen, 1.9 is less glitchy than 1.8, on the grounds that it's not adding a TON of stuff like 1.8 was.

Only thing I've noticed with the 1.9PR is the lilypads, murky water/grass added in the swamp biomes, re-added the snowy biomes, added the mushroom biome, added mooshroom mob, fireslime mob and that fire mob. Added the new blocks for netherbrick and netherbrick fences and spawners for the fire mob. Oh, and they added the npc's but they look stupid as hell and do nothing.

Title: Re: Minecraft v1.8

Silverfish are only found in Strongholds. It's a block that looks like a normal Stone Block, but it breaks real easy and when broken spawns a silverfish. Also, if you kill a silverfish it will automatically break silverfish blocks in the surrounding area forcing them to spawn as well. You can quite seriously become over-run with silverfish in an instant.

And yes, they're in 1.8.1.

How do you find strongholds? From what i have heard there are only one per world it that true?

There's 3 per world now and the only way to find them mostly is on accident. I'm not sure, but I think strongholds all have entrances from the surface but it's not fancy at all to say the least so you may have found it but you wouldn't know.

What makes them look different from dungeons? The iron bars right?

Stongholds are made out of 5 (well 6) new blocks. There's the stone brick, broken stone brick, mossy stone brick, stone brick steps and stone brick half slabs (and the iron bars). The brick is obviously different from other block types. It's pretty much a legit dungeon. Long corridors, iron doors that open via a button and then there's a few special rooms. I don't know of them all, but I know that there's a sweet 2 floor'd library room and then some random other interesting rooms. Never the less, it's amazing - if you find one. :(   I've found one, then immediately died but didn't know where I was so I lost it :(

-
Also, this:

Made this for the new server I'm on. It's obviously a volcano but it's also a jail deep on the inside. Think of Molten Core, and that's exactly what it is. The idea is that players who become jailed are teleported all the way to the furthest North West corner of the map deep into this volcano on a giant platform held up with massive chains above lava. I'll try to take a screenshot of it when I can - cause it's pretty badass.

-
here, got some:

There's an observation deck there for non-jailed players to check out the area or make fun of who's jailed there. To get to the observation deck that low, there's a SUPER fancy spiral staircase that runs down from a supported Dock building in the water just off the coast of the volcano. We had a team of builders make this last night in a few hours.

Multiplayer looks so epic, especially with that.

Edit: I found out if you get the elemental arrow mod and shoot a lightning arrow at a creeper it still changes it to a charged creeper.

I'm not really sure. I think it's just video editing.

WoW doesn't actually suck, the people that play WoW suck. The community.

I guess I could say WoW just isn't my style. It does have a lot of content but I don't like how it looks and I also dislike how customizable it is for being an mmo. It kind of takes away its authenticity.

I'M AWESOME!
If you made Molten Core in Minecraft, you should recreate ALL instances! Imagine Icecrown, Ahn'Qiraj, Zul'Aman, Gurrub and Farrak (if that's what it's called, haven't been there in ages), Tempest Keep, VC (noobs gonna noob), The Stockade, Blackrock (all of them!) and, you know, all the others in Minecraft! Basically, all of WoW in Minecraft. With the Great Sea, Outland (as the nether, of course) Northrend, all of it.
Turns out, it's not a very good idea. But it could be done (if the worlds in Minecraft are big enough) by someone amazing enough at Minecraft and with enough time on their hands.

They're only as big as the hard drive on your computer :p

Edit: pertaining to the strongholds the wiki says, "In 1.8, all Strongholds are located at random in a circle between 640 and 1152 blocks from the origin, 0/0. Due to the generation algorithm[5], the Stronghold proper may extend further in or out of that circle. The three strongholds are spawned at equal angles from the center point of the world (that is, each stronghold is 120 degrees from the others, measured from the origin.) As of the 1.9 Pre-release, Strongholds are no longer limited to 3 a world."
It makes me feel stupid because I became all-out nomadic and went on a long journey outside of that area looking for a stronghold.

Okay, I take that back. The world ends at 30,000,000 meters...

never gonna happen because the wowfag who'd be willing to do it would miss too many raids and be kicked from their guild.

out of all the things to dislike, the fact that it allows you to heavily customize your ui or add handy functions is what you DON'T like. I really hate you scalinger.

Anyone willing to spend that amount of time building all the areas would have to be religious about WoW though.

I still haven't found a stronghold. They're a lot harder to find then I thought they would. I was thinking I could look around for a couple hours and find one (creative; flying) but I still haven't found one. How rare are these damn things? I'm glad notch changed it to more then three per world.     *_-_o;
