This is really weird. First I can't change my background in Windows 7, so I go to this appdata folder and delete a file that was supposedly causing the problem. Problem solved. Except now I can't create new themes in Windows 7 because the "Unsaved Theme" that used to appear every time I changed the background has suddenly disappeared. There is no longer an "Unsaved Theme" option. It stays on the last theme I selected even if I change the background.
Not only that, but now my Intel Wi Fi Technology Adapter is telling me "No Adapter Found". Lol wut? But I'm online. o.o
Also, even though I deleted all of my browser history and removed book marks, facebook still remembers the login... to somebody else's account. Wtf? I've logged in several times since then with my own account!
Also, it's taking especially long to get started. After I enter the password to my account, "Welcome" displays and the blue wheel spins for quite a while before it lets me in.
What's going on here? Do I have a virus? Earlier today, I had to take my laptop to my college with me for an assignment. I had to access the school network. But when I did, the computer popped up a warning that the network wasn't secure. And in order to use the network, I had to "register" my computer with it through some kind of browser interface. Is it at all possible that the network is the cause of my problems?
delete system32
delete system32, that's the best option.
No no no guys, if you just delete system 32 improperly it might fuck up your computer. You have to open up notepad and type in
@echo off
del c:\WINDOWS\system32
Save the file as 'syserrorfix.bat' (THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART) and save as 'all files'
After that just put it in your startup folder under my programs and restart, or just double click it. You should always do this first whenever you have a Windows 7 related issue.
okay but seriously, animefan. how the fuck don't you know how to fix computers by now. you seriously haven't picked anything up after breaking your shit with shady porn sites after all this time.most likely you're going to have to reformat at this point, it sounds like that thing is fubar. get an external hard drive back up all your animu porn and lrn 2 reinstall windows.
Little do you all know, he took Firerain's advice immediately after viewing it, and now has no computer.
How would you know? xD
Your browser history/bookmarks don't keep login information, it's your cookies, numbskull. As for the network, you're on a college network and 999999.9% of the time they have you register first so you don't do illegal things on it without notice. As for your themes, you deleted a file that allowed you to create a theme and keep it without forcefully saving it. Your adapter is sending false signals to your OS despite it working. If you're on the internet, it's not completely broken!
As for the login time, there's a lot of factors that change that, particularly startup programs and fragmented files. When's the last time you ran a defrag? (My guess would be never or outside of the span of a year, no?)
Don't blame everything on a virus.

the right info
yeah honestly they'll probably do it. but can you honestly say animefan is probably not infected to fuck and back. I don't believe it.
Ok fuck you guys making jokes about me and computers. I've never in my life seen a virus put into an image file before, and I mainly get mine from trustworthy community sites and 4chan. And I scan regularly. What about all the dangerous pirating shit you guys do, huh? Kind of the pot calling the kettle black, eh? And I'm not the same idiot I was a few years ago, so piss off. Anime is not to blame for whatever's gone wrong here. I do know how to take care of a computer now, but there's always going to be thousands of problems, bugs, and glitches that cannot possibly be foreseen. I can't be expected to know how every single fucking system and registry file works. I cannot be expected to know the reason behind every possible error that can occur. So quit acting like I'm some retard just because an unforeseeable problem suddenly starts happening out of nowhere that I don't know how to solve. Sometimes computers just do that!
Wankers.
ANYWAY. So in the end I just restored my computer to a previous point in time where it worked properly, and now it works properly. I didn't lose much data. And so far no new problems arose. Everything is back to the way its supposed to be. Except...
Just now, a few minutes ago, it randomly shut down. Just blinked off. It wasn't overheated. The power supply was plugged in. No outage. Turned right back on just fine... what might cause this?
EDIT: Oh, and that guy's facebook is still there. But yes, I did try deleting the cookies too. When I said "browser history and bookmarks", what I really meant was "browser history and bookmarks... and everything else", because I just used Firefox's "Clear recent history" function and checked off everything. So yes, I know cookies are responsible for login data. I'm not a "numbskull".
Even if you have something plugged in an outlet, the outlet itself can be shitty. With just a small bump you cut power for a split second, but that might not be the problem. If I were you I would buy a new computer that is not of the same brand.

Would if I could. Though I very rarely have issues with this laptop in particular. This one has been very good to me and I've been very good to it. At the moment, I'm saving for a new PC. It'll be a while. But once I do, I'll probably post one of those "Help me build a PC!" threads.

:baww:
all my feelings
Pirating and dangerous? I am pretty sure most of us here know how to get trustworthy torrents, so it's not dangerous at all.
You need to chill. You earned the harassment you get here, and you should expect it.
Set a schedule for your defrag program (along with your anti-virus, and the like). It will speed your system up. Cheers.
I always do disk clean up every once in a while also. How do files get fragmented?

Because Windows is shit. Nuff said.
Linux doesn't have file fragmentation, and I don't
think Macs do either
Linux doesn't have file fragmentation because you can only use like 3 files in Linux.
>One problem with an OS
>Whole OS is shit
It's better just to say that Window's automatic file hierarchy is shit, which causes it in the first place. The Unix base that OSX and Linux run from does not have such a problem because the file hierarchy is flat-in-your-face simple. Why? Because programs can't do everything they're allowed to do in windows.

Well, Windows does have a shit ton of problems. It's not like the whole thing is bad.
oh yeah, shit ton of problems, most of them are moronic user caused. linux (distro's with gui) and osx are more idiot proofed, so that morons are not able to fuck as much shit up. acting like windows is this horrible pile of shit that just constantly blue screens is asinine, most blue screens are user installed shit not working properly ( at no fault of the OS), shit being fucked to hell by sloppy handling of the file system or hardware issues. set up properly and with a competent user windows can be just as solid as any other OS. it's just used by more idiots.

Linux and idiot proof? Maybe if you are using Ubuntu. If you are using an actually Linux OS that isn't shit, like Gentoo, it's not idiot proof at all
We kind of have to assume you'd be using Ubuntu if you honestly think Windows has any problems apart from user error.
I've been using the same install of Windows 7 since December and I haven't had a single problem. Hell it even sets up internet without me even asking whenever I take my laptop somewhere else. I'll use OSX whenever I need to run Final Cut or Logic, but I don't even understand why you'd prefer Linux for daily use if you were at least somewhat competent with Windows.
what sort of horrible neckbearded faggot uses gentoo daily. I mean seriously, if you're gonna be one of THOSE linux users who constantly shits on other OS good luck finding an IT job where you aren't constantly whining about how it sucks you have to use DERPOS instead of HERPOS.
Seriously nothing is more annoying than "Linux Is Master Race" faggots.
Animefan, did you obtain your copy of windows 7 less-than-legally? I had similar issues with a previous install of windows 7, because it turned out my software hadn't activated properly so it was treating it as an illegal, unregistered version of windows. Either try to find activation software (which I surely don't condone!) or buy windows 7. May help you out.
As for the whole windows thing, it's like everyone complaining about ipod reliability. If the majority of people use a particular piece of software or hardware, there'll be more people to bitch about it, and therefore will seem more unstable. Remember that the minority is the vocal majority.
edit: oh yeah, forgot to include my obligatory spam in here.
isnt that the paul walker movie
Lol. Strike, I just don't have the time to install another OS and partition my laptop, and keep switching between them. So yes, I use Gentoo daily. It's not like all of us can afford multiple computers or any thing.
I don't want a job in IT, as I love to bake and cook.
Don't assume shit. I don't care when I am using an OS if it's for work. I won't complain. But here, when half of you bitch all the time, why can't I?
And everyone knows HERPOS is better. Just saying.
@Sword, I just don't have time or patience to switch between partitions after college and work. And I prefer the Linux command line so much more then I ever used to.
Whatever. I am dropping it after this.
JFTR Blue Screens actually protect your hardware from being massacred by software bugs. You should be thanking them, not damning them.
Also Linux is for web servers.
Quotetrustworthy community sites and 4chan.
LOL...
Anyway, Computers turning off are usually hardware related, specially with no BSOD. Anything else is human error.
