So, I heard of this awesome website called Google.
Nah, you need scripts. I take it you're new to XP? What you've described is pretty dang... nothing, so look for what you want and follow the instructions to install it properly.

If what you want is a sideview battle system - one where you see your characters on the screen - I recommend Tankentai! Somebody made an XP version from the VX version (if it's the same then it's good). WARNING IF YOU USE IT! XP scripts and VX scripts are incompatable because the languages are slightly different so the XP version may have bugs. There are also on map battle systems (like Legend of Zelda styled) but I use VX so I don't know of any CBS's except for the XP version of Tankentai I mentioned above :/

If you want to start scripting it will take a while to learn but there are tutorials. The best tutorials are by gubid on youtube (i think he does XP as well as VX) I've accualyl learned quite a bit in the few videos I've watched :D (still cant script though :()

Gubid's tutorials actually have some minor errors in them. He's a good coder, but you can't expect anyone who isn't Zeriab to know everything.
And the XP and VX languages are the same, but the RTP and built-in scripts are different, which means custom scripts have to be different.
But yeah, Tankentai's good.
