This is the first song from their upcoming album, which is their first without founding member and drummer of 25 years, Mike Portnoy.
I have to listen to it 78 times before I can tell whether I like it or not.
Dream Theater died to me around the time of Six Degrees.

Scenes From A Memory is my favorite by far, but it has more of an awesome effect if you listen to Images and Words first. I have to say though, I really do like this song, MP or not. I wish LaBrie didn't have such a pussy voice though sometimes.
I used to never listen to anything after Six Degrees for a while because I didn't really like those albums very much on the first listen, but Train of Thought and Octavarium grew on me. I still turn my nose up at Systematic Chaos though. When Black Clouds and Silver Linings came out, I listened to it 10 billion times, playing it nonstop for probably a month or more, and it's one of my favorite albums now. I think my deal is, I don't like progressive songs as much on the first listen as the second, third and so on, or at least with Dream Theater. I see a lot of others saying the same thing about this song from the posts I've been reading today, and I totally agree.
My top five favorite albums are Scenes from a Memory, Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, Images and Words, Black Clouds and Silver Linings and Awake. I won't recommend any individual songs, because I think the band's better enjoyed by listening to entire albums, at least when you're not very familiar with their stuff. I'd personally recommend downloading their entire discography and listening in chronological order, but that's just me.
As for this song, I think it's really good for being a single. Their singles are usually one of the weakest songs on their albums, like Constant Motion and A Rite of Passage. This song doesn't seem like anything they've written before, for the better, but for some reason people keep comparing it to Awake and Images and Words. I can also finally hear the bass, but the drums seem way too quiet.
Skip the first one, and just go right to Images and Words.
