Post by: Cascading Dragon on June 26, 2011, 02:18:16 PM
I am about to buy a Playstation 3. So I need to know what the essentials are. I already know I am getting imFamous 1 &  2 and God of War III, but what else should I get?

Metal Gear Solid 4 for the pure nostalgia?

HDMI and Optical Audio cables are sold separately. If you want 1080p and 5.1 sound, you'll have to buy them yourself, and they aren't the cheapest cables in the world.

Yes, you will need those cables but they do not have to be expensive.

HDMI Cable (http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10240)
Audio Cable (http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10229)

As for games, some recommendations;

Demons Souls
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow
Bayonetta (if you already own an Xbox, I am told it runs better on that but it is a fun game either way)

For any more I'd need to know your preferences. ^.^

I second both LBP and Demon's Souls (Quite polar opposites, aren't they?).

I also had a lot of fun with Heavy Rain, though it's definitely not for everyone. I came in with no expectations and ended up getting really attached to the story & characters, despite it being completely out of my normal game comfort zone.

Don't put it at the top of your list, but it's a nice little gem of a game if you do get around to it.

Heavy Rain was so hard to get through for me, it was like a movie that kept pausing and you had to press play every five minutes.

I'm playing the hell out of Red Dead Redemption, and really enjoying it.

Oh, I was planning to.
One thing bother me about that game, though. ...is it impossible to get the platinum trophy unless you play online? Because that's kind of lame...

You can play online by yourself. It's basically the single player game with a leveling system, repeatable bandit lairs, and kick ass challenges. Also multiplayer has the zebra donkey, super bull, and albino buffalo available for mounts. What's not to like?

I got Armored Core: for Answer and Fallout New Vegas, armored core is for people who have always played the series and Fallout is pretty fun too though.

You should play Uncharted from the beginning. The beta is only the multiplayer.
