i know most of the experienced users must have seen this, but i found it really good
but anyways a list of rpg cliches:
http://project-apollo.net/text/rpg.html
especially for newbies
I've made a challenge to myself, months ago, to make two games based on this list. One wherein all cliches are used at least once, and one wherein none are broken. It will take a while, though. One day, though. One day.

I thought of this while reading through the list. I've seen the list before but it's been a while. Nice share.
The thing is, how do you make a game that doesn't have a teenage hero? It's impossible! :V
Mmm. No it's not.

It's really not.
I forgot which one the sarcasm emoticon was.
:V
code?
:V :V
But of course...
Allow me to edit that post...
Very well, sir.
Grafikal's already struggling to be nice. :V
Like Graf said, I think most of us have already seen that list, but I don't think anyone's ever posted it here for the people who haven't, so it's still good.
i think there are more like these
but where they are i am not sure of...
Case and point: Vengeance lets you choose a face, and the most popular so far are the older looking ones. And the black ones.

Eternal Crystal Tales of the Magic Fantasy Dragon
Wasn't that NAMKCOR's title? I would play that game just to see how many of these it uses.
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time
Can you get any worse as a title?
its possible
Crystals of the Dragon Empire's Eternal Vengeance - Part I: Attack of the Banishing Fantasy Fiends from Hell
i told you so
That's the title of my terrible game now. The non-cliche one;
Sterrance
the main character is Sterrance and he is 32 and lives in a modern city. Nothing happens. Cliches are good when used well.

how about Sterrance: Legacy of Nothing
[EDIT]:V
Listen to yourself. You've used the word legacy. It would be much better as;
Sterrance: Nothing
however, that uses a colon, which is imo cliche, so;
Nothing Sterrance.
But that sounds like a failed 1980's sit-com, so;
Sterrance.
i was kidding
Then use the sarcasm smiley, silly. :V
Sarcasm doesn't portray very well over the internet.
I'll lay it on more thick next time

Old conversation.
sorry :P
How about Paul is a 36 year old knight who fights in some battles but isn't some mystical sole saviour of the world. He doesn't find love as love isnt to be found on the battlefield. His best friend is his steel sword which he never changes.
36 might not seem old but in the context, it is. We're talking times of a 40 year old life expectancy.
That said, in my game I'm just shitting on cliches all over the place for the hell of it.
Quote from Night Portal:
"The Great Wizard of Midown accepts no cliche! This mage is the good guy!"
Thousands of years ago the evil demon Kostchtchie
terrorized the earth. the mages of the 9 crystals
blahblahblah.. sealed him away
but now.. Kostchtchie will return
and only the one who can collect the 9 crystals can save him
but that guy is sleeping...
you:"..."
mom:"wake up..."
mom:"WAKE UP!!!"
you:"huh?"
mom:"your late"
How cliche is that?
Some of the cliches on there are actually things that are nearly unavoidable. Like how a passage is nearly impossible to see from a birds eye view, but the party would be able to see them easily.
I was happily surprised though that my game doesn't have a lot of cliches at all.
I'm glad the RM world finally grew out of Ghost*2 being the first enemy faced in the middle of a field.
