Title: [INDEFINITELY CANCELED][VX] Night Portal
Post by: pacdiggity on January 21, 2011, 10:18:09 AM
Night Portal
Legend of the Skyward Warriors

Story
Spoiler for Story:
Thousands of years ago, when there was nothing, only the Creator existed. The Creator gave existence meaning: he spawned the Skyward Warriors to create his perfect universe. The Skyward Warriors created the universe, but doomed mankind for eternity.
The Creator banished the warriors, and they wanted vengeance! They created a portal to where he lives. And one day, a man will carry out the vengeance of thousands of years of hate. And that man will be praised as the final Skyward Warrior!

About Night Portal
Spoiler for The Game:
]Night Portal: Legend of the Skyward Warriors is the first in a series of games set in the high fantasy world of Oslar. The game boasts great settings and a complex story featuring a dozen original characters unraveling the conspiracies of the kingdoms in the world. This is my first game and I am very proud of it so far, learning all of the features VX has to offer. Come and watch as I learn how VX operates and my skill increases dramatically throughout the course of the story. The main idea of Night Portal is the time-traveling portal that serves as the heroes' base throughout the game. Go through the history of Oslar and watch as the heroes learn about the horrific truth of their own time.

Heroes
Spoiler for Heroes:
Spoiler for Sona Sieker:
Sona Sieker - a 15 year old mage that has been dragged into a seemingly never-ending quest to save the kingdoms of Oslar from the dark grasps of the Creator. The reluctant hero is quickly thrown into perilous situations, with villains constantly stalking and threatening him, friends defending themselves with dire consequences and severe psychological dilemmas forever surrounding him. He is sarcastic and naïve at first, eventually learning that his problems are no laughing matter. NOTE: This character uses the default 'Ralph' graphic in-game. I would like to inform you that I am aware of how stupid this is, but it'll make sense in-game.

Spoiler for Kosu Utsoku:
Kosu Utsoku - a 15 year old priestess that offered to help Sona on his quest, hoping that she would learn more about herself and the world along the way. She indeed learns, but she learns a shocking truth that cannot be let loose into the world. What could she do to make sure that nobody knows about it?

Spoiler for Kuri Gustae:
Kuri Gustae - an easygoing 16 year old warrior from the Aldermat fortress, Kuri joins Sona and Kosu after learning that his master is Sona's mentor. He is always the first of the group to put his hand up, and despite Sona's constant teasing, he saves the lives of many at a great cost.

Spoiler for Akekur Stingwarper:
Akekur Stingwarper - one of the three known surviving Dark Elves of Farenoa, Akekur is the saviour Sona needed in a sticky situation. He readily joins the party, and is clearly the only one who understands how truly important their quest is.

Throughout the course of the game, you will encounter several more characters who will join your entourage for their own reasons, be it guilt, personal gain or for the good of the world.

Villains
Spoiler for Villains:
Spoiler for Grae Elist:
Grae Elist - Another of the Dark Elves, Grae is the unquestioning servant of the Barbarian King. Early on in the story, he meets Sona and learns to hate him, knowing that there is something special about him, albeit him being a silly child who got dragged into something he had no business in. Grae often has no idea what's going on and on some occasions even forgets to bring his own minions.

Spoiler for Barbarian King:
Barbarian King - The initial villain in the story, this man is attempting to summon the Creator to the mortal world and use him for his own personal gain. To do so, he has created a giant army of freelance mercenaries and rebels amongst the kingdoms. He is, however, a puppet of four greater villains that use him to fulfill their prophecy.

Spoiler for Leaniz:
Leaniz - The Creator of the Skyward Warriors and overseer of the universe. He is seen as an embodiment of evil and discord, having banished the warriors for acts he viewed as heinous. However, he has no motives or means, and only exists for the purposes of evil.

This is just the beginning. If you truly seek to know who threatens Oslar, peer into the depths and watch the story unwind.

Full Game

Spoiler for Give it some time:

So, it will take quite a long time to complete, so any help at all in the slightest way possible would be so appreciated, I would give you internets for helping me. Thanks to Kitten for layout tips  :P

Actually, i just realised that i do need something pretty urgently. I'm using the default battle system, and I'm hating it. I've tried Cozziekun's Earthbound system, but my party has more than 4 members for most of the game. It won't work with that. So, I was wondering that if I gave someone the character sprites they would be able to set up Tankentai or something for me. That would be super-mega awesome great! I am terrible with graphics, so I wouldn't know the first thing about doing it. Could you possibly help me at all with that?

Alright, updated the page with more screenies and info on the demo and full game in eventuality. If anyone else wants to help out, either PM me or reply on this topic, and do NOT email me. I might set up a page on rpgmaker.net if I can be bothered. Look out for more updates and demo VERY soon. we're talking like 2 days, people. Take care and have a safe drive home. Apologies for the double-post.

AP.

Apologies again for the... triple post...
But the demo's completion has been slightly delayed. I need to fine-tune some scripts, fix some events, maybe decorate some maps a bit more...
That should all be done in about 2 or 3 days, but one thing that I really need are beta testers. I already have one, but the game will take several hours to play through and he doesn't have any experience with VX at all, so he can't really help me. For testing you will be credited and I will internet hug you! Enjoy watching my descent into insanity!

But I'll beta-test for sure, if you want.

Slightly larger than little problem with the demo, wherin upon attempt to run the game, the following message is displayed;

"Failed to create process."

I've tried a lot of ways to try and fix the damn thing, but alas, nothing worked. I even tried turning it off and on again! If anyone has the slightest idea wassup with my game, please shed some light. I want the game up on the 29th, as my birthday present to the community. So, anyone know what's happening?

The demo is done btw, aside from that.

Please don't use my music in your game. You didn't ask, and I'm composing specifically for OotM.
Title: Re: [RMVX] Night Portal: Legend of the Skyward Warriors
Post by: pacdiggity on January 26, 2011, 09:58:17 AM
Woops, soz. I downloaded the pack (great music btw), but that was after I'd done most of the game, so don't worry about that. I haven't used your music at all, just credited you in case I did. Even I'm confused here.

Also, can you stop changing my sig please? I've checked around and I'm pretty sure that I'm not gay.
So, I'll remove you from the credits if that will make you feel better. You can check the game (if I get it out) to see if it has your music in it. But I'm pretty sure that I haven't used any.

Thanks. I wouldn't mind, but the stuff that I've been working on is for a specific game.
Title: Re: [RMVX] Night Portal: Legend of the Skyward Warriors
Post by: pacdiggity on January 27, 2011, 05:25:08 AM
Considering the problems I've encountered, I'll have to take the game apart, find the problem and put it back together, or start over from scratch. This has been a major shit and I really hate what VX has done to me. I really don't want to start over because it took me a year to get to where I am, so I'll try my best to fix the damn thing. I am royally screwed here, so if anyone has any advice to offer you will be loved.

Failed to create process is a strange error. Have you tried just making a new project, copying the data, graphics, and audio folders from your project and pasting over those files in the new project?
Title: Re: [RMVX] Night Portal: Legend of the Skyward Warriors
Post by: pacdiggity on January 28, 2011, 02:39:50 AM
Later today I'm going to try the project on a different computer to see if it's my crappy laptop that causes the problem. If that fails, I will remake the project and release the demo tomorrow either way. I've worked for too long to give up here.

Edit the first: I'm really annoyed to announce that it wasn't my laptop that caused the problem; it was the program. But not RMVX itself; just my game. I've tried other, much smaller, abandoned projects to see if this was fact, and they worked. So, I've been screwed over and can't upload a demo if you can't use it. Hopefully I will be able to find the problem within the next 24 hours and still have it up on my borthdai.

Edit the second: After understanding what MA meant (I'm pretty tired right now), I tried what he actually suggested. IT WORKED! The game is fully operational (as far as I know) and will be ready to upload by 00:00 (east Australia time, because I live in Melbourne.) after I fix a few scripts.

It's my birthday!!!
Everyone who cares! Also Gracie/Salad Fingers/Gracie the Bitey! The demo is up, down, and all around. Please play through and give me any tips and have fun playing Night Portal!
Keep in mind that in the errors I lost a couple of files. So, let me know immediately and I will fix it and re-upload. It is crucial that you let me know every error you find. Enjoy my birthday gift to you and may the armadillo gods guide you to the fields of temporary judicial joy.

Found my first bug! If you somehow manage to get the Custom Warp off of Rail, it'll work wherever you go. All the other warps only work inside Akrul, Aldermat, Dragard and Narhc, but this one works anywhere in the world. I forgot to add the conditional branch that stops this. So, please don't abuse the custom warp, and I will fix and upload tomorrow.
Happy gaming, AP (HP)

I played the game, I really like the story, but the gameplay was pretty strange to me. At the beginning those bandits hit 1 but you can 1 shot them and they drop tons of gold and exp, but once you leave the school, in the field the monsters drop little money and exp but are crazy strong. I wasn't able to get too far because I got killed going to the city (I didn't have any potions). I tried going to Staarck but I wasn't strong enough or something, how do I get in?

So yeah, the only problem is the balancing issues. I liked the opening quest it was funny
Title: Re: [RMVX] Night Portal: Legend of the Skyward Warriors
Post by: pacdiggity on January 30, 2011, 01:57:05 AM
I was trying to make a game where the monsters were akin to Dark Gaia's Legionwood, where it is most certainly not easy. I must have forgotten to balance the bandits.
Whoops!
As for the cave, you have to be at least level 5 to access it. I know it seems a little much, but the cave is quite difficult compared to the field. *wink wink first boss*
As for the quest, I've created it so that it kind of parodies most RPGs, even MMORPGs, particularly WoW. This pretty much keeps going throughout the entire game, but it gets more serious as the plot gets darker.
Spoiler for For that quest...:
You will receive an extra party member for the last battle. And let me tell you, you will need it.
Also, let me ask you how long it took for you to get to where you are in-game. I want an idea as to how long the demo takes to play through.

Uploading Demo V 1.1. The RTP version is still 1.0, so if you don't have the RTP you'll have to wait a couple of hours to get 1.1.
Fixed hiromu's problem and the custom warp bug. Please report any other bugs ASAP as I don't want to waste precious uploads.

Build V1.2 is complete and available here (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=IO0EV197).
This version reaches the end of the first story, and basically ends the starting storyline. So, unless further bugs are reported, part 1 is over and i will begin work on part 2 immediately.

Build V1.3 is complete and available here (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=6IZP1F2E).
This version fixes the rather embarrassing bug in V1.2. You will no longer begin the game unmovable in the last boss scene. If you have V1.2, download 1.3 immediately. 1.2 will not work.
Part 2 is well under way and approaching the end of Chapter IV. (Part 1 includes chapters 1-3.) Apologies for that ridiculous bug, everyone.

Sorry for not giving feedback on 1.3 like I said, it has been slipping from my mind each day.. strange. Anyway, I'm going to IHOP right now  ;D, so when I get back I plan to review every nook and cranny of your game and give a nice feedback session in the edit.

Just realized I got the wrong version, I haven't played yet, but I will, I forgot yet again. You shall have your review soon.

I started the game, I was standing on the bed, I was then stuck, I think there is an Autorun event going on at the moment that should have been ending and wasn't since I was unable to open the Status Menu either (Unless it had been disabled). So yeah, It wasn't working...

Where exactly in the tutorial were you when the error occurred? I've played through it hundreds of times and never got that error.
However, upon closer inspection, you are correct. I haven't the slightest clue why it happened, but I removed script that caused the problem. Now it's just the boring victory screen, not a script fail. Build 1.3.1 will be up withing the hour ;9.

Alright... I haven't done much work on this in a while, but there's good reasoning.
My laptop's broke.
When (if) I manage to fix it, I will resume work on the project, but until then the game is on hiatus.
Personal matters have also gotten me down, so I'm not really feeling up to do anything much.
Until I'm ready to resume work on this, the project is temporarily canceled.
