Title: LA Noire - Realistic Facial Movement
Post by: Irock on January 14, 2011, 08:20:29 PM
This is the best facial technology I've ever seen.. anywhere. This is nearly as detailed as real life.

The detailed facial motion is important for this game because you solve mysteries, and facial expressions will play a role in determining whether a character's lying or not.

That looks fantastic. It's really jarring how unnatural some characters look in next-gen games just because of their jerky mannerisms and facial expressions. Though, it seems like a lot of work to go through just to get the movements down. I bet it gets pretty expensive hiring a bunch of actors and actually styling and filming them.

But seriously this is fucking awesome. my only issue if this were to be used for other games is that you'd see actor overlap and i don't want to be jet li all the time or whatever, know what i mean? i want to know if they can use the face captures to make original non actorfaced characters.

edit: oh and one last thing

Irock could play in a detective film noir.

I've seen this stuff a while ago, and it is indeed incredible. Flat screens do it no justice. When you actually see it in motion, though, it does look very realistic. I would have to say that this is the best face capture since HL2's faceposer. Though, Black Ops did have some pretty good face animations.

Also, they could use some better models. Those meshes look sort of shitty.

That's probably due to the fact that the face graphics are so intense, but I do see your point.
