Tracks 1 - 4
1. Less Than Three
I cut myself with ice
and the right side of the nicest knife
I think that I might like you;
you think I might be nuts
She said to find the cause
the pause I sought among the lost
and tossed away the days we spent
Time sinks into the cuts
One pin to mark the chart
to wrap a ribcage round a heart
To map the crap that I went through
when she said "My love, I heart you"
I hurt myself for fun
You're my trigger, I'm your gun
You think that I might love you
I think you may be right
She said to find the cause
the line above the exit clause
She had claws, and pearly whites
and kitty liked to bite
One pin to mark the chart
to wrap a ribcage round a heart
To map the crap that I went through
when she said "My heart, I love you"
Cast-iron broken heart
Stainless steel plating
while we're waiting
for her next new part
She's state-of-the-art
2. Audio
Plastic soldiers, rubber balls,
golden idols, cyber-dolls
Tinfoil girls and nylon boys
All the pretty little toys
They took a Polaroid,
declared me null and void,
but I was the fairest one of all
The only toy I need
is a polyphonic needle
Audio, the cyber-doll
Broken spirits, broken jaws
Major problems, minor flaws
Strung-out girls and twisted boys
All of these defective toys
My dreams are now destroyed
by thoughts so paranoid
but I won't be the last to fall
The only toy I need
is a monophonic needle
Audio, the cyber-doll
3. Dollface
Audio consisted of
green eyes and computer nodes,
wires and designer clothes
a smile to melt through frozen hearts
and a few unstable parts
Audio insisted on
thinking she could not be hurt
A goddess in a sequined skirt
Her nerves were copper cased in steel
so I was sent to help her feel
Audio was listed as
a high-end doll in high demand
A pressure that she never planned
and wires and designer clothes
were worthless when her systems froze
Earth received word
of an angel gone rogue
and raised her back up
as a starlet in vogue
4. Neckbites
Broken spirit, broken jaw
Fight the system, tooth and claw
Trash the city, cash a check
Pull my hair and bite my neck
Sickly is the newest style
Quickly, this my take a while
Invade the airwaves, check my site
A fight to win's a neck to bite
God and country, no money to burn
Each second wasted was a penny to earn
So you tasted like freedom to me
from the perfect little android I'm expected to be
I'm a model, if you know what I mean
I'm the new face of the lost and unclean
I'm a model, if you know what I mean
I'm Joan of Arc off medication with a sewing machine
Call me the it-girl, the fad of the week
with trackmarks next to neckbites
It's so heroin-chic
'Less you got music to accompany these lyrics it belongs in the WRITING section.
That's probably why I posted it there.
In case no one's picked up on it, "Audio" is the name of the character.
Tracks 5 and 6
5. ^__^
I love it when you make that face
Your eyes smile and the room lights up
All decked out in chains and lace
and you found the perfect place to go
I love it when you dance like that
I feel young and the club lights up
So lithe, so lifelike, kitty cat
Each setback only helps us grow
Don't fall behind, dollface
Don't fall into a trap
that takes your smiling eyes away
like a rubber band
I never planned would snap
I love it when you touch me there
The world melts and my head lights up
I love it how you seem to care
Your happiness reflects my own
I love it when we talk like this
My head melts and the world lights up
The cameras click, you blow a kiss
I love how close we've grown
Don't fall behind, dollface
Don't fall into a trap
that takes your smiling eyes away
like a rubber band
I never planned would snap
6. Model/Airplane
Every other day I fly
to new places to meet people who
don't care if I live or die,
so I lie to their faces
There's never real sincerity
and I don't want their charity
I just want to get back home
into the arms of Clarity
Strike a pose, bat your eyes
Couture clothes, all oversized
Hate the girls, avoid the boys
I'm one of those defective toys
7. Lace and Chains
Don't break my stride
with shifting blames
Don't leave my side
and don't play games
Little girl lost, never ever found
Storm-tossed thoughts on a muddy ground
In inner space we're free from our pains
Decked in lace and bound in chains
I watch my dreams
go up in flames
I hatch my schemes
I stake my claims
Little girl lost, her life's a blur
Storm-tossed thoughts all wrapped in fur
We know our names and we know our place
Decked in chains and bound with lace
8. I Touch Myself (altered Divinyls cover)
I hate myself; I want you to love me
When I feel down I want you above me
I've lost myself; I want you to find me
I forget myself; I want you to remind me
I don't want anybody else,
and when I think about you I touch myself
You're the one who makes me come running
You're a star, and you're my sunshine
When I'm with you I'm always happy
I need to know you're mine
I can close my eyes and see you before me
I think I would die if you were to ignore me
Why can't you see just how much I adore you?
I'd get down on my knees and do anything for you
I don't want anybody else,
and when I think about you I touch myself
So far down—please say that you love me,
in a loft downtown, with your body above me
I've lost myself and I need you to find me
I'm hurting myself, but that's how they designed me
I don't want anybody else,
and when I think about you I touch myself
I don't want anybody else,
oh no...
This is of course a rock opera about drug-addicted lesbian android supermodels.
Wow. The theme is so random I can't pull away... Well, I can tell you that the human/machine melding and the use of andriods to represent the unfeeling learning that NO ONE is unfeeling is not unique, but not uncompelling, either. Of course, your talent to incorporate something gender-bending is both apparrent and artfully used, bravo. It all comes together as this visually bright but emotionally dark imagery which is both comforting and apalling with its sterility- and then you get sucker-punched by the realisation that its seemingly retro robo-chick M.O. (a la some of Boris Vallejo's early works or Isaac Asimov's writings) is a thin cover for more modern, almost emo sentiments. Whatever, you make it work well.
What I have to say is confusing, particularly without the music behind it, is the rythm of the lyrics. I see a lot of aspects that I find off-putting, like the re-use of lyrics and the use of lyrics in one song as title for another. I don't believe that it shows a lack of creativity, rather a tendency to try to stick to the theme of the album.
All in all the reaction is favorable, and I think it has potential to be really good material. Perhaps with music I would be otherwise inclined, I don't know. I would try to work with it more, I think it's rough and could use some polishing- but a fantastic starting point!
9. ;__;
All carved up and nowhere to go
We starved ourselves to be best in show
Hit the covers of all the magazines,
became friends, then lovers,
but remained machines
All we felt was centralised
below the belt and behind the eyes
The caffeine and the nicotine
the sex, sweat, and amphetamines
the stimuli and stimulants
can't stimulate defunct machines
Not a stitch to wear
In mourning for computer nodes
I have poetry, not access codes
My wires start to fray
Synthetic tears soak the soil
and corrode the earth like boiling oil
Yesterday becomes today
Immersed in fear and it's tough to think
It's clear I haven't had enough to drink
A tally mark for every flint
that fails to spark an interest
A scar for every second spent
hurrying to get redressed
and every urge I still repressed
Not a stitch to wear
10. LBD
The devil's in the details
Isn't that how the phrase goes?
From runway right to retail
Now the whole world wears our clothes
I just want us to feel real again
aluminium on skin, circuits flash alive
and our hard drives crashing
with the clashing of steel again
(you still turn me on)
You respond to stress with such finesse
I'm glad to hear the operation was a success
Your stilettos parallel your words
Both of them are pointed,
and neither one matches your dress
It's difficult to get off
when your buttons don't get pressed
You can capture heaven on an eight-track
just to notice during playback
how audio is compressed
11. Electric Apathy
Audio needs clarity, but empathy's a rarity
The city's electricity
bleeds unrestrained felicity
into the pain that drains from me
my veins gauge rain's toxicity
as strains of tainted sympathy
make apathy simplicity
A synthetic aesthetic: narcotics, anaesthetic
Gas masks, hip flasks, aged in port casks,
bastards bask in questions unasked
Audio needs clarity, but only finds disparity
The pretty city lights you see
are simply electricity
and everyone you meet but me
peddles precious apathy
Mock-ups, knock-offs: make the stocks drop
Flocks the shepherd can't protect
Cock-ups, stocks drop, flock to knock-offs
Fuck-ups that you can't correct
Music (sans vocals, since I unfortunately can't sing like two different women terribly well) is under construction.
