I believe the word you are looking for is 'Dungeon.'
Also I am relatively sure this can be evented effectively.

Ok i edited the typos :P i'm sorry i spelled it in french ;D about it being evented.... i just can't see an efficient way of doing so...I did try on rpg maker 2003 before switching and it's just.. too much to be evented in my own opinion... i can event an a-rpg but not that  :'( so if you don't mind i'll let this post on available... :-\

Well, I don't script in RMXP anymore, but the script is probably too hard for you to ever have anyone do it on a volunteer basis. I think your best bet is to use an existing ABS. They aren't exactly what you want, but they are probably as close as you're going to get.

Blizz ABS (http://forum.chaos-project.com/index.php?topic=106.0)

XAS (http://atelier-rgss.com/RGSS/Battle/XAS_00.html)

It's not an ABS Modern.
All he needs to do is the following:

> hit enter on an enemy
> select an attack
> modify variables/hp
> enemy does something
> repeat selection until one party dies

It can be rather easily evented.

Well, there's AI involved, and a menu with which you can change ally AI tactics. Besides, controlling variables for every enemy in a map and applying states would be a pain. If the AI is to be even semi-intelligent it would be better to use a script as far as I'm concerned. Moreover every battle on every map will need to be configured. I've made a TBS through events before, and battle mechanics get pretty complicated pretty fast. A script would be more efficient I think. Anyway, if you think he can do it through an event he's welcome to.

I am not able to do this with events... it's really way harder that only the turn based fight you seem to be referring... it may be possible but it isnt on my reach... :-[

It's not a TBS either.
