- game_guy ~ For making it
- modern algebra ~ For the awesome quest journal script
- Everyone else for awesome support. <3
This is kind of neat, especially since it takes so long to configure the Quest Journal the normal way.
I will say to. It looks really nice and very professional like. :)
Thanks. Glad you guys like it!
I had some Issues getting it to work on my project. the words colour in the generated scripts need to change from queens English (colour) to American English (color)Lines 734,736,740 758,760 and 762 are the only instances that caused failure on my game
example of what worked(line 758):
contents.font.color = text_color (ModAlg_QuestData::COMPLETE_COLOURCOLOR)
My bad, when I get the time I'll fix it, thanks for reporting it.
EDIT: Instead of fixing lines 734,736,740 758,760 and 762 you could have just change the config text.
Under the config you could have made COMPLETE_COLOR to COMPLETE_COULOR
Other than the COLOUR thing, I've run into two other problems.
One thing is if you disable Menu Access and Key Access in the main config, the script you generate at the end sets them to False instead of false causing an error.
The other thing is it sets all objectives' IDs to 0.
Both easy to fix manually but just letting you know about them.
Updated:
Fixed the Colour bug.
Fixed the capital True/False bug
Fixed the objective id's bug
Version 1.3 is released enjoy! Post any bugs please <3
Works perfect now as far as I could see. Thanks!

I guess maybe the script didn't generate it right. However I won't be able to fix it. I lost the source code. I'm willing to remake it but it may be awhile til I get it.

What was meant was, we need to know what is going on at line 1050 of wherever the error is (if you look at the error message, you can find out where in the script section to look)...
And to do that, we need either a screencap of that area, or just the text that is used there.
ooh, okay well ill check up on it, im sorry for not knowing what you guys mean and all.
Hehe, guess i will always be a newbie at this xD
Yeah, there's an error at line 1097, and all there is is the word end
So yeah, any help??? :(
Is the download link broken?
hey guys I plan on redoing this. My friend didnt pay for his hosting So bleh. Sorry
Before I get to in-depth with this program, has a newer version been created yet? I really like the Quest Journal (large props to you, Modern Algebra!), but it was always very taxing for me to go in a manually add all the quests for my game. I already have over 1,000 side quests and optional quests and then somewhere around 500 main line quests (maybe less, or more, still not sure); to do these all one by one is quite ~taxing~ to say the least. Thanks for making this great tool, btw, game_guy. :)
EDIT:
Oh, and the DL link is not working, it takes me to some website that offers game tickets (football, basketball, etc) and airline tickets and stuff... Can this be re-uploaded so we can DL it? :)
Can someone please fix the download?
If you guys are willing to wait 1-3 weeks I'll have it completely remade. I lost the code and the program so I can't re-up now.

I've waited almost 3 years for this game I'm making to get this far, another 3 weeks most certainly wont kill me. :3
*BTW, does anyone know how to get the Quests in your Quest Journal to appear as options in a message or something? Such as, I have a fairy that can give you "some" advice on what to do if you are lost on a quest; but I'm not sure how to get her to ask you what quest you are having the problem with and to make sure she gives the info for the right quest.
I believe that if you use the script option in the conditional branch, it returns as true if the quest is completed if you use a specific code. I can't remember what it is though. Not sure if it works for objectives or just overall quests. In any case:
Conditional Branch: If Script [that code thing, quest 1] then
Conditional Branch: If Script [code again, quest 2] then
Conditional Branch: If Script [once more, quest 3] then
Etcetera for all main quests desired...
Branch end
else
Need help with quest 3? I can help... etc.
Branch end
else
Need help with quest 2? Maybe try this.
Branch end
else
I can help you with quest 1.
Branch end
Or you coud just use switches, which would be much simpler.
Alright, some good news and bad news. Good news, the thing is almost half way done. Bad news, progress on this will have to hault for a full week as I'm getting ready for some school tests.

Don't worry about it, life always comes first to me. I hope the exams go well for you, GG. :)
Alright...programs probably I'd say 75% done. I really want to finish this but I just haven't been in a programming mood lately. Anyways its almost done and I'm sorry for the delay. Oh and you no longer have to click Save Quest to save the data. Any data changed causes automatic saving. d(^_^)b
Also I was thinking about applying a ribbon to the GUI. You know the gui stuff you see on microsoft word and whatnot. If you guys agree lemme know.

I think it would make it look cool, but what ever makes it less of a hassle for you works, too. :)
Alright. I started completely from scratch again to incorporate the interface. Now don't be too worried. I'm caught up and actually still a little farther. I've decided to give you guys an orgasmic preview of the hawt interface.
I've attached it. :3
That is one sexy interface. Just wondering, what OSs would be able to run this? I assume not Mac OS (exe file?), but XP?
I'm assuming your building it for Windows 7, no?
Building the program with C# .NET 2.0. It should run on Windows XP or higher as long as you have the .NET 2.0 Framework. Which nowadays most everyone has anyways so you don't need to worry about that.
Ah, of course. Thanks for the clarification. ;)
Looking forward to the release!
Alright so I finished the Icon Selector and the Color Selector. I just need to finish up the Objectives manager and create the code generator. Man programming is so fun. <3
I'm still a little confused on how to use this.... Do I just replace the Quest Journal Script with this one? And what do I need to do to set the quests up via eventing? Help soon would be appreciated.
Yea just replace the quest journal script. I'm not too familiar with actually using the script. You'll probably wanna post questions in the actual thread for the script.
On a side note, this is almost done guys. All I have to do is finish Script generation. Probably a week at most. Busy with school ya know.

That is a beautiful interface; it makes it look very professional and everything, very nice in-deed GG.
Off Subject a little: BTW, I hope the schooling thing is going good. Thanks for taking your time out of that for this... :)

WOW TRULEY AMAZING you took one of MA scripts and made it easier then it already was
this program looks clean and simple to use
JUST AMAZING
I M AMAZED lol ;D
No update other then I realized I screwed up the icon picker really badly. I entered in algorithms that only supported 16 icons by 16 icons, basically the default sheet. Found this out when I loaded up a much larger sheet, sorry guys. >.<
But I would like to request something, if anyone has the config, could you upload it so people can still access the older version until this babys done. School shouldn't be in the way anymore, gonna fix the icon picker, and finish up the script generator.
Also another thing, when you generate the script, it will generate two scripts. The config, and the base script. You will delete the quest script you currently have and paste both of the scripts into your game. Now everytime you go to generate, you will only replace the config. I find it a bit redundant making everyone replace the entire script even though only the config has changed.
Glad to hear schools done for you for now. :)
Can't wait for it! :3
Guess whats been released? Quest Journal Config build 1.0.0.0! I've edited the first post with screenshots, info, and download. Also, MA PM'd me and version 2.0 is coming out soon for his quest journal, I'm working on development plans for that one as well.
Please test the program in anyway you can and post the errors or bugs you may encounter. Thanks guys!
EDIT:
Uploaded build 1.0.0.1. Had a minor GUI flaw in it.
The new GUI is beautiful! Great work game_guy!
Wow, I love it! Congrats on this, Game_guy! =)
Thanks guys. <3
That's amazing, g_g.
loving the... stuff you're doing.
Anyone have any suggestions? I plan on having a right click for the list of quests, save to file options for the scripts, anything else?
Down-right beautiful, GG.
A few requests:
1: Is there any chance it could be made to go full screen?
2: Maybe include a walk-through guide on how to use the engine... (Happy to write this up for you)
3: A clear explanation as of to how to get your portion of the 'Quests' section placed into the actual script. Upon using it for the first time, it took me a very long time to understand what to do with the script and where to place the quest information... (Happy to write this up for you)
Side note:
This... Is.... BEAUTIFUL! I am so thankful to you, GG, and Modern Algebra for these two irreplaceable script/engine for RMVX. Thank you, very, very much. My game will come along a LOT easier now; I can't wait for further updates to come and will continue to help out as much as possible. :)
Sorry to double post, but I am getting an error when I attempt to launch my game now. I have included an image of the error and the place in the script it takes me to when I open it.

When I remove the option to have a key pressed on the field, I now get the following error:
(https://rmrk.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Frpgmaker.net%2Fmedia%2Fcontent%2Fusers%2F4763%2Flocker%2FSyntaxError_1.png&hash=3ca2b98d07e9eded833395113a14f1a2e1826e00)
You should write those up for me, that'd be great. Development for Quest Journal 2.0 however will be a long wait. I have finals coming up in 2 weeks and I'll most likely be studying hardcore like.
Anyways glad you guys enjoy it, if you can Kitten write those guides up, I'll place it in a help file and pack it with the program. I'll try and make the window stretchable I guess.
Be happy to write the first one, but apparently, I'll need to wait on the second one seeing as to how I'm having issues myself... :/
Side Note:
Best of luck on the finals!!!! ^^ *two thumbs up*
*goes to fix*
Hmm, I can't seem to figure out what the problem is.
Is the error in the generated config? or the actual script.
EDIT: Odd, I can't seem to reproduce this error. Try recopying all the scripts.
You do have all three scripts pasted in right>
Quote from: game_guy on May 02, 2011, 05:25:29 AM
You do have all three scripts pasted in right>
You need to re-copy the 'Config', 'Quest Journal' and the 'Paragraph Formatter' scripts out of the Generate window when it pop's up??? Hmm... Will try this real quick.
EDIT:
Goof-ball me... Sorry, yeah, that was my own error. I wasn't re-copying the Paragraph Formatter script... Works now! >.>
Everytime you generate the script, you should only have to re-copy the config, if the other two scripts were copied successfully and pasted succesfully everything should work fine.
Hey guys, small update on whats going on. This summer I'll be able to work on this project some more. Due to the new features of 2.1 and the last 3 weeks of school I won't be able to do any of this at all. However, I've got the basic design down and I'm going to throw it all in a GUI and give you guys a screenshot. Some of the new features are going to be pretty cool though.
Anyways later guys!

While I have no screenshots yet or anything to show, I would like to bring some great news.
First, I'm out of school so I'm going to be working on the new config app. I've also managed to get IronRuby to work with C#, which means it can load RPGXP data. Why is this useful and how does it protain to the new config app? I wanted to add this option so when choosing rewards you can select the common event you want or the item you want. In the next day or two I will release a small demo that reads RPGXP data.
I decided to scrap the design I had and start fresh. I'm most likely going to use the Office style but I'm not sure.
It'd look pretty professional in office style. Go for it.
Best of luck. :)
The office style sounds nice also. d(^.^)b
So that demo I mentioned. Well just go to this. http://rmrk.net/index.php/topic,42732.msg488249.html#new
This loads up Items, Armors, and Weapons.rxdata and lets you edit the price. This is going to be implemented into the new config app.
Office style it is. :)
Just so you know, MA updated his Quest Journal script:
http://rmrk.net/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=25533.0;attach=23391
The tool now generates an out-dated version; hope this helps out. ^.^
I know of this. I'm working on the 2.1 config right now.

XD Oh, lol, sorry. :)
When I try to open this app i get this error
(https://rmrk.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi814.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fzz67%2Fmaggot91%2Ferror.jpg&hash=5884359685d303d9ac96ab0c3004a4c078646c96)
Any ideas?
The only thing I can think of is you're missing the DLL that was packed with the program or its corrupted. Maybe try re-downloading it and extract it somewhere. If that doesn't fix it, hopefully the new version will run for you. Even though I've been lacking in updates, I've been working on a new version for 2.1.
