Title: [RESOLVED] How to show pictures AND have the player move at the same time?
Post by: AZN Skillz on May 19, 2010, 10:01:32 PM
In our game, we decided to implement a sort of relationship system with the game's princess (Luna) - like from Dragon Age, if anyone has played it. Good choices make your relationship better, bad choices make it worse.

I'm trying to create a common event so that after Luna gives her response, a small picture shows in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen, either saying "Luna approves! (+1)" or "Luna disapproves! (-1)". I've managed to get the pictures to show up, but the only way of making them stay on-screen is to use the Wait action. The problem with using the Wait action is that your character can't move.

Is there a way to get the pic to appear, stay on screen for 2-3 seconds, then disappear, all while allowing movement of the player?

Any help is appreciated.  :)

Are you making the pictures how through a parallel process, because what it sounds like is that right now its using an auto run.

No it's not parallel process. Most of them are Action Buttons, since most of the choices are initiated by talking to specific people. Here's an example:

> [Talking]
> [Show Choices]
> [Choice is made]
> [Luna's response]
> [Call Common Event] to show picture

I can get the pictures to show; the only thing it's missing is a way to keep with the picture on-screen while allowing movement of the player.

well since you will always be using these pictures im guessing; make the common a parallel event that is turned on by a switch. and where you have the call common make that turn the switch on.

in the common event make it show the picture and then the wait time, after make it turn the switch that shows it off.

It still pauses the game while the picture is up. Is there a way to set a sort of internal timer within an event? Maybe that would work.

I have it set up just like yours, and the game still pauses when the picture shows up. The pictures show up and disappear, but the player is stuck while the picture is on-screen.

Yeah you were right. I got it work finally  ;D

I left the Call Common Event in place along with the switch turn-on by accident.

Thank you for all of your help!  ;)
