Title: My Map Making
Post by: Life Alchemist on May 05, 2010, 09:15:43 AM
This is just a bit of my map making. It isn't extraordinary with wonderful tilesets and sprites. Its the basic setup with some combined tilesets put into one. Just wanting some feedback of what you guys think (especially on my standpoint as an unfamiliar rmxp user). During map exploration, see if you can find the hidden chicken and hidden potion if you're bored i suppose. I know there is a recruitment section but i figure a presentation of my work coincides well with some feedback of what you guys think of my maps. Some music was put into some parts so you didn't feel completely bored, otherwise they're just there because they're there. As well as other random stuff you might find (shops thats that are really quite useless, etc.). Thanks all!

p.s. yes, i know there are a LOT of pathing issues but the focus i'm wanting to draw upon is the LOOK of the maps. So yes, i know there are pathing issues, no need to mention my failures >.<

Download my game or w/e here. (it is an RMXP game)

If there is any issue with the game (not loading or something), lemme know and i'll get back to fixing it asap.

The screenshots will be loaded as you might progress through the game....

Screenshot Section:

The Farmhouse - make the farmer guy invisible in your mind >.< he's the main char so he's not sposed to be in there, i was just too lazy to remove him.

The Foresthouse - the edges were cut off to produce the seamless image so you'll have to ignore the outside edges of the map since rocks were half-displayed and what-not. (the map looks empty, its supposed to be) and the soldier was just there for some battle testing, ignore him too >.< as well as the next soldier. i promise the rest of the characters are supposed to be there though....

Yes, there are more maps and they do get somewhat better. Break time though, 4:36am. not up to paint cropping anymore atm.

I'll try it out. Downloading now.

EDIT:  Just realized I can't try it out.  I don't have/use RMXP. My bad. Sorry.

Here's a better idea. If you want people just to comment on the looks of your maps, how about you take screenshots of your maps in the game and post them HERE (http://rmrk.net/index.php/topic,13626.0.html). It's much quicker, requires no downloads from anyone.

i dont know how to take a picture of the maps to make them look like they're in-game but without the character in there, all event pictures included, and none of the event squares on it. (yes, its possible, check scanime's pic on zylos' link which is on page 71 i believe, the last page).

press the print screen button on your keyboard, then open MSPaint and go to Edit then Paste and your screenshot of screen will appear. Then CROP your image to just game window. Then upload the image by either attaching the images to your posts or by using Imageshack or Tinypic or something similar

I'm working on it now... the way i'm doing it, it'll take a while to get all of the images i'm wishing to have in.

Your maps aren't too bad. Maybe fill a little more space, but they look pretty good.
