And I can finally stop practicing 2 hours a day.
It was fun, and hard, and stressful, and made me sleepy, and made me $300 dollars richer. I don't get it until later on, like when I go back to play in a recital for all of the winners of the other instruments, which is kind of a drag. =P
I'll post a video if I can.
Yeah, I want to know what you played. P: Congratz, though! I wish I could get played for playing. P:
Well done, SJR. Just curious, acoustic, electric?
Uke?

Uke?
what does yaoi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yaoi) have to do with anything?
I guarantee you every prominent member on this forum already knows what Yaoi is.
Yes, but that was still mildly amusing. Witty, Nam. And besides, I see SJR is definitely a "top".
What the...?! Is "top" supposed to be a double entendre?
Thanks! :) It was for classical guitar, btw.
Cool. Classical takes a lot of skill, from what I understand.
Every form of guitar takes a lot of skill (except pop music). Even trashy rock songs can take a lot of skill, but they just all sound the same. P:

But did you know that Uke is the term for the receiver, and Seme is the term for the quarterback?

Heh, I guess genre has a lot to do with it. I played bass in a rock band, but the jazz and funk was when I had to really play at the limit of my skill. I just think that classical sounds really complex and on a different level, at least from what I'm currently capable of.
See, that's tricky. Technique wise, Classical is about as tough as it gets, but improvisation isn't an everyday (or every month) thing for the average classical guitarist, whereas it is for Jazz, and it requires an extensive knowledge of theory to do well.
In comparison to like the average electric guitarist, it's way harder. Everything you do that sounds sick on electric you do on classical, but I would say, from personal experience, that it is much harder to get good at.
But you're right, it is on a much different level. Since classical guitar is pretty much the underdog of the popular classical instruments, you aren't getting massive concerti written for it every day. It's a much more solo oriented instrument, and even when you do play with an orchestra, you're usually a soloist. You don't have a bassist playing the bass line, nor a drummer nor a additional guitarist, so you really need to be good at balancing each voice properly, and in general it's much harder because you need those voices.
I don't even know what you're talking about nam; football or porn?

but that's irrelevant because this is a thread about Rex winning a guitar competition, and M00s was clearly talking about a ukulele.

HURR DURR
The way we used to play, it was less theory in that we read very little music as a matter of course, and was a more, I dunno, visceral method. I guess you had to know your notes and stuff, but when I think of a classical guitarist, I think of a guy playing all parts of a song while simultaneously reading two staves of notes in two different clefs and possibly chewing bubblegum. As opposed to the jazz bassist, playing basically whatever he wants while smoking a cigarette. Fun, but not quite as dignified. Eh.

That's why I love Tommy Emmanuel. P: The classical style in the sense that you play multiple voices (srsly, he's playing polyphonically sometimes), but it's not classical type. Theory-wise, I would say. But idk, I never really analyzed his music. I just listen. P:
Yeah, he is good.
lol, my dad made a joke similar to that a few days ago, M00. "Jazz guitarists need one hand free to hold their beer."
