Title: Network drivers for an old-ass Dell
Post by: CartoonFan on April 17, 2010, 03:07:11 AM
OK, so here's the situation. I know you guys hate hearing from me on this forum, but this time it's not my problem. I don't own a PC this shitty.

OK, so a friend of mine has this old Dell 2400. He's had it since about 2003, and recently it contracted that virus that pretends to be antivirus software that asks for your money and gives you all kinds of false warnings that won't go away and makes it impossible to open internet explorer.

We deleted everything and reformated the entire system. Now we need drivers. He has a shitton of driver disks but none of them seem to have exactly what we still need.

And what we still need is network drivers. The ones that make "Local Area Network" show up in the task bar and recognize an ethernet cord being plugged in.

And before you say it, yes I have tried google. Dell's own site only had network drivers for a specific Dell router when I searched 2400 drivers. Nothing related to LAN. I also tried a bunch of other sites, and anybody with any problems like or related to mine, have completely different computers. I even looked up "local area network" "driver" "Dell 2400" in quotes, and it turned up zero results.

Does anybody know what I can do to find the drivers I need?

Try searching for ethernet drivers for the Intel 845GV chipset.

Wow. Well I found something that might do it. Selected #9 on this page here: http://www.userdrivers.com/Motherboard/Intel-D845GVSR-Motherboard/download/

How did you know it would be this particular chipset? Do all 2400s use it?

Also, any possibility it could be any others? I want to grab as many possible drivers as I can to make sure I only need one more trip to do this.

Dell likes to fuck with hardware and write their own drivers sometimes, be careful if you're not downloading from them.

Ahaha I have a Dell 2400, too. >_> Anyways, yeah be careful. With my other computer that's slightly better than this one, I kept on getting BSoD'd with errors regarding drivers. I found some drivers and used them, and now the computer won't do anything.
