Title: Minecraft!
Post by: Holkeye on February 08, 2010, 07:52:06 AM
An in-browser, online world generation/exploration "game", Minecraft lets you team up with (or against) random people online to build a world out of blocks. It's really fun! We should all get together in a room sometime and play this!

I used to play this all the time and I built great buildings and stuff and it was fun but then it got boring.

Download a program so you can fly and go warp speed because it makes building easier.

Is this like Starcraft, but underground?

Post by: Esmeralda on February 08, 2010, 05:20:22 PM
... No.

I had a server running for this game not too long ago, I should still have our map left. Me, chewey, Irock and some other people played on it. It's pretty fun but the flying around stuff sort of makes the game boring faster than it would without it.

Entertaining game though.

Rasse and I played this a while ago and tried rounding up to play without much success. Public servers are a pain since anything you do will soon be wrecked by some dickhead.

Anyway, it was fun until Irock convinced Rasse to use some cheating program.

BUMP BECAUSE I MIGHT PLAY WITH MY FRIENDS. When Ferenn/Rasse/Skanker hosted the server, was it on Classic or Alpha? P: And I'm assuming you guys didn't pay to play.
Title: Re: Minecraft!
Post by: Esmeralda on September 23, 2010, 05:15:59 AM
Back then Alpha didn't even exist yet. I'm hosting an Alpha server now though, and yes we've bought the game.

Minecraft is amazing, I love searching for dungeons, as for yet, I haven't found one.

Unfortunately my client is from the open weekend, for some reason it still allows me on off-line playing, so I may aswell use it :). I'm intending to buy it soon, but my friend might be gifting his free second version thing to me. (When you've bought you can gift a second one to somone else)

You can connect to mine if you want, given that you won't grief D8<

I wouldn't do that. =_= I've spent 9+ hours in single player just building a watch tower, and it's STILL not finished. If something happened to it, I'd be pissed.

I love Minecraft.
Once I get my paycheck I should invest in it, could be fun, they've added a hell of a lot since Skanks and Chewey and all of us played last ya?

Some people just can't handle completely non-linear games. There's nothing wrong with them, they just have no creativity or imagination.
Title: Re: Minecraft!
Post by: Irock on October 03, 2010, 12:26:01 AM
They can't think for themselves. They have to be told what they need to do.

That's a stretch. I played this game for a little while, and then stopped. It was boring. Drawing dicks was fun, though.

Yeah, I didn't like minecraft so that completely defines my personality. It's not that I "can't handle" it, I just don't like it. It doesn't interest me :)
Title: Re: Minecraft!
Post by: Esmeralda on October 06, 2010, 07:10:43 PM
Blah blah no need to get at eachothers throats for a game. For people wanting to connect to mine you'll have the best luck getting on IRC and asking for my IP since it changes irregularly (welp) but for now you can just try connecting to
80.221.102.205
It was made for me, chewey and people from garachat but one of them is sick and the other one is waiting for a new computer so it's a bit desolate right now. It'll be up and running most of the time from now on and backups are being made regularly, but don't be a dick just because of that *-*

Minecraft's so rad. But it doesn't seem to be as popular here as it does in this other community I'm a part of. This page doesn't have 1.6k+ pages.

Anywho, I currently have a large tower on a small island. Has a spiral staircase that goes real far down into the earth, no diamond yet. Anyone hosting?

I'm trying to do something similar to skylands, on a smaller scale. (Started before I played skylands, of course, but yeah) And I'm making a bunch of places to create a singleplayer experience. So far I've got a small settler's village of sorts built around a fort, a chasm to the bottom of the earth with a spooky bridge, an outpost, an evil nether temple (buried in sand) and a graveyard, allllllll out in the desert. It's not much, but I'm still coming up with ideas.

Post by: Irock on November 11, 2010, 09:32:35 AM
I own a desert on a survival multiplayer server. I have some buildings planned out, and I got these two towers around the entrance done, though the interior hasn't been done yet.

I turned the graphics down so the clouds wouldn't get in the way.

Okay see, my buildings, they're not nearly that pretty. They're more...functional, than anything else. A rock that can be used as a hammer, as opposed to the hammer-lux-5000 from sears.

Title: Re: Minecraft!
Post by: Kokowam on November 13, 2010, 05:37:20 AM
I'd recommend you buy it even if you have any second thoughts on it. It's amazingly good for something still in the alpha stages, and you'll want to buy it before it hits beta; prices will be continually rising as it nears completion.

Been hanging around the Skylands (http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=38214) lately.  It lags now and again when the map is loading up, but from what I hear that's because of the Halloween update.

Its' pretty awesome.

It lags for a while for me until it loads the different chunks into ram, and then it seems to work fine.

I thought it would do that for me, but like, even outside that very first house, if I look away from the building it completely vomits all over itself.

How about tonight after work? That'd be about 11:00 or so my time. You'll need to make an account at the site first and then PM me your information- make your password something you don't use for anything else, because I'll have to log in as you to purchase it.

I can't remember your time zone, so for the record: It is five o'clock at my house.

Also, for those of you who want some new textures:

http://painterlypack.net/

Customize- you will want to- through the button under the banner. It's easy. Just put the zip file into your minecraft installation's texture pack folder.

Should be:

QuoteC:\Documents and Settings\(username goes here)\Application Data\.minecraft

If you're on XP. I don't know about vista/win7, but it should be similar.

EDIT: Forgot to mention: you can probably ignore the so-called "Important Notice" on the front page. I have this installed and have currently not seen any of those issues. I think the message is outdated.

Painterly is nice, but I prefer Doku's RPG Texture pack.  I found an updated version that works with the new patch, but it's a 32x32pixel texture pack, so it requires a bit of an additional patch to make it work properly, and there's still bugs with the portals (I think I should go back to 16x16 ones)

I also used to use Quandary (http://www.retributiongames.com/quandary/) and am thinking of working up my own if I can be assed to.

Also, if anyone is interested, here's a HUGE LIST OF TEXTURE PACKS (http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=12352) for those who want to know all most of the options.

If anyone wants, I can have Tom restart our server and such, and I can give out the URL.
