Title: [Writing] Sticking with it
Post by: Kathryn on December 29, 2009, 01:22:17 AM
Hey guys!  :tpg:

No, I have nothing to show you. Just have some questions.

I've told everyone that I draw comics, right? Right? When I was younger I'd draw all sorts of comics, and I'd usually be able to make it to the end of a chapter before throwing out a series. The only problem with that was that my output, wasn't, er, all that awesome, mostly because I'd just wing it while I was writing.

For about a year now I haven't been doing a great job of writing my comics, mostly because I can't settle on a structure. I can't stand thumbnailing/storyboarding, mostly because I don't like drawing something twice. I've finally decided that scripting is the way to go for me, but I'm having trouble sticking with it.

(Well, part of my problem is that I keep on coming up with story ideas, or switching to another story idea in my stash. I have a good 10-15 long-term story ideas that want developing, and there's about five I keep on switching between.)

So, uh, I know you guys all did NaNoWriMo and everything (I didn't learn about it until the end of November. D'Oh.). What did you guys do to keep going? In fact, even for regular writing, what helps you continue with it?

Music.

I've tried many things to help motivate me when it comes to writing and music has never failed me. I also find that listening to certain music that could be linked to your story helps a lot. For instance; the story I am currently writing is an action/adventure with a futuristic setting, so to help me write, I listen to video game soundtracks that have the same type of setting as my story. So far I have listened to the Phantasy Star Online/Universe soundtracks, which has helped me come with ideas on moves and locations for the story.

So you could give (certain) music a try.  :)
