Title: Sherlock Holmes
Post by: Holkeye on December 28, 2009, 05:36:51 AM
Ok, so we all know by now that House M.D. is basically a medical version of Sherlock Holmes, right?

House = Holmes
Wilson = Watson
Both are musicians
Both are geniuses, but lack social skills

So, I went to this movie and forgot about this. About a half-hour in, I was like, "Hey, this is a lot like House." Then I remembered. So yeah, in an odd twist, this movie is sort of a ripoff of the show that was a ripoff of the original. That's meta.

As far as the movie goes, I don't know. It was pretty average, I guess. The banter between Hous- er... Holmes and Watson was entertaining, and the action was pretty good. I just still have Avatar's taste in my mouth, so any other special effects just look like claymation by comparison.

I would say that if you're a fan of the series, go see it. If you're a fan of House, go see it just to see the comparisons. If you aren't a fan of either, just rent it when the DVD comes out.

I want to go see Avatar when I go to visit Zeich, but he is "Nuuuuu, let's go see Sherlock Holmes, I loved the trailer! =D", so Imma give a more critical review of this later. The trailers and shots I've seen seem decent and pretty cool actually, but not much else. It looks more like a kind of ride of a movie, one that to enjoy it best you just have to sit back and let it take you where it will.

See Avatar instead.

From what I saw in the trailers, this looks like a more funny-ish Sherlock Holmes with a supernatural come-back-from-the-dead twist?

I saw it today and thought it was pretty good. Granted I don't watch House, nor have I read the books or seen other forms of Sherlock Holmes, I still found it to be a great movie.

But yes, Zylos, see Avatar instead. In 3D if you can. And if you can, in IMAX 3D.

Justifiable Homo Side.

If you enjoy Robert Downey Jr. and you're a man, it's okay, you just have a justifiable homo side.

lololol

edit: Aw, no more Christmas. :(

Saw it last night.

And despite already reading this thread, I had the exact same moment Holk had. You know, the moment where I forgot that House was based on Sherlock Holmes, and thought to myself, "hey this movie is a lot like House."

lol

I saw this the day after Christmas or whatever. I loved every second of it!
Arlen is entirely right, if it's Robert Downey Jr., it's okay to have a homo side.  :tpg:

It's got everything that makes Guy Ritchie movies so awesome, but with a new plot!
