Title: Holk's PSP Picks Part 5: Music Games

Patapon/Patapon 2

Basically, this is a rhythm-based platformer. You tell your Pons to move, attack, and other commands by keeping the beat. There's a bit of customization involved, but it's pretty straight forward.

Taiko No Tatsujin 2

May be better known as Taiko Drum Master, this is my favorite rhythm game for the PSP. The first one is pretty much exactly the same, but the songs in the second are much better. It includes some internet famous songs, such as Moskau and that Numa Numa song. Note that these are only available in Japanese, but it's pretty easy to navigate.

Beaterator

More a sequencer/mixing board than a game, I've had a lot of fun writing some stuff in this. It has a pretty high entry barrier, but once you get used to it, it's a lot of fun.

Gitaroo Man Lives!

(https://rmrk.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.mangetonpad.com%2Fsite%2Fimages%2Fdossiers%2Fgitaroo-man-lives-20060821094547511.jpg&hash=7e9b3c63d2aeb6d155c5a7cee40aca134016d6f4)

He certainly does. This game is hard. The notes fly in from all angles, and the story driven backgrounds get in the way a lot. The songs are great though, so that sort of makes up for it.

Parappa The Rapper

(https://rmrk.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.qj.net%2Fuploads%2Farticles_module%2F69966%2Fparappa6_qjpreviewth.jpg&hash=952702cacb21c0bd08b5cedd26a73e55e103f041)

Kick, punch, it's all in the mind. This game is classic. The music is just as good as you remember, and it's still pretty hard. Again, sorry for the Japanese screens. This one's in English.

DJ MAX Portable

Basically Beatmania clones, there are like 10 of these for PSP. Most are in Korean, but they contain enough English to allow them to be playable.

Is this the one where the guy plays guitar to save the world? I think the praise leader of my band played some old version of it or something and he played the final song from the game (if it's what I'm thinking about).

Also, YAY! More games, lol.

I'm not really that into music games and I haven't been since Guitar Hero 2 (you know, when it was still original and fun), but I tried a Patapon demo on my PSP a while ago and what I played was really fun! Recommended to... I don't know, people like fun games? :o

DJMax Fever, Clazziquai and Black Square all have Korean and English options, so you won't need to guess stuff. Oh, but their is quite a lot of Engrish in the Album section of the games. :=:

What do you mean, Tez? ???

Also, comment on Gitaroo Man: Really short; only 10 stages which you can play through within an hour (including the cutscenes). I managed to do everything in one shot except for the last stage against Zowie which took three tries. :\ DESPITE BEING SHORT, it was really fun and there's still master mode (this thing is a B). I can see myself playing my friends in this for a while, though. :3 It's really fun (though frustrating since it's so hard to beat levels in master mode that were easy in normal mode).
