Title: Asylum Webcomic
Post by: tSwitch on November 15, 2009, 11:10:44 PM
I've started a webcomic, updated Saturdays and/or Sundays.
It's up to 13 pages of chapter 1 now and going strong, Tell your friends if you'd be so kind, I'd like to get the word out :)

Quote"It is a good viewpoint to see the world as a dream. If you have something like a nightmare, you will wake up and tell yourself it was only a dream" -- Infected Mushroom

"Asylum" is a weekly comic detailing the life of a sociopath by the name of Liam.

Currently a patient at Whittsend Asylum, Liam most enjoys sleeping; more specifically, Dreaming.
Dreams are an escape from the real, and a window to the subconscious.
A simple dream could tell more about a person than even their closest friend.

I'm impressed. It's sketchy, like the main character... who, BTW, I can't wait to see more of his psychotic pathology.

Any brand you prefer?

not really, I mean I've only used 2 brands and they just happened to be the ones available at the time.

I have...
0.5mm Mechanical Pencil
Faber-Castell S/F/M ink pens
Faber-Castell Ink Brush

S is smallest
F is middle
M is largest

I have no idea why they use that naming convention either.

I hope you are still able to work on the comic, Nam. I'd hate to see it fall by the wayside.

2-3 pages a week is too small?

i mean i guess its just how yours is setup. Most web comics have like 2-4 page comics each week with different stories, but yours is one continuing story.

Sorry not trying to criticize you im just telling you what i think, i really like the comic is what im trying to say and i want moar

How long do you plan to make each chapter? It's most likely not going to be uniform, but do you have any idea?

Twisted... I like it.

Need Moar Please!

I kinda wanna see where this heads off into...

But I also kinda wanna see you give up on it, so that some dashing gent could come in and steal your idea quite mercilessly...  ::)

of course, I kid.  ;D

I'm going to give you some criticism. Please don't take anything I say to be insulting, because I really like this. I'm just giving you some of my opinions, and you don't have to (and probably won't) do anything with them.

- I really like the art style. B&W is good for this, and it isn't too anime, which most things are in these communities.

- That being said, I feel that when you do include some anime cliches, or jokes in general, it sort of clashes with the overall feel. For example, Liam passing out in therapy. I understand the need for light moments, as not to seem too pretentious or dark, but I sort of felt pulled out of the story at these moments.

- I don't know if you're intending to do this, but I'm catching some meta-fiction in here, which I totally dig. For instance, the drawing that Liam has is the first page of the comic. Running with this idea would be completely rad, but even if you don't, it's still a nice touch.

- It's still really early, I know, but it would be pretty sweet to see some of the tertiary characters get some background. As soon as I saw Jessie, I wanted to know more about him/her. (I still can't figure it out.) The half-hawk is such an eye-catching style, that I think the character deserves fleshing out. Sort of reminds me of something that would be in Salad Fingers.

Thanks for the criticizm Holk, it's much appreciated.

I fully intend to flesh out every single main-character in the story.  That includes everyone that was introduced during the first Group Therapy section.

As far as the anime-cliche are concerned, I can see your point.  I did intend them to be lighter moments, since I really just personally don't like taking things far too seriously myself, but I'll see how I can apply that criticism to future pages.

I have plans for the sketchbook and other things like that :)

I'm glad you're liking it so far, and to fix things up, Jessica is a girl.
