For some of us, RMRK has become a daily part of our lives. Friendships have been made, love has been found, and the real cause for earthquakes, solar eclipses, and gravity has been discovered.
Be it in #crankeye or the forums, how has finding this community changed your life? What do you think your life would be like without it?
RMRK has gotten me involved in the internet, given me knowledge, made me look at the world more realistically, improved my computing skills, brought me to meet so many great people, negatively impacted my IRL social skills, and let me see my first porn picture in a thread fu posted in 2006. I'm sure it's done much more, I just can't think of it right now.
It's hard to say what my life would be like without RMRK. I really do spend most of my time on the internet now, so I'd probably be more active socially and physically. Despite this, I have no regrets.
Wow. Well, I have learned so much in the way of RMVX it's unreal. I even learned some HTML. I have seen many people who have alternative viewpoints on life in general, some of which I never would have met if not for RMRK. I have also (finally) had something to do at the fire station besides sit and watch TV, which I hate doing.
Not to seem presumptuous, but I kinda think of many of you as friends. The vast majority of people I see are decent and definitely have something going for them in terms of character. I like all the creativity and thought that gets posted. RMRK really is an escape, and I'm thankful that I happened upon a community that is at once entertaining, thought provoking and friendly.
I just see RMRK as a place to hang out. I've been here for over 3 years, so suffice to say, I've changed a lot in that time. I've met some great (and some not-so-great) people, learned some things, and had a lot of laughs. If that isn't what life is about, then what is?
I like to think the majority of you are my firends. not irock of course :V I joined #crankeye for laughs one day back in November(early December?) '07 and just never left. you guys are awesome, I may not do much in the way of RPG maker but you guys treat me the same as you would any other member. It's always nice to hop on xchat and shoot the shit with whoever happens to be online, about whatever. From talking crap about games or talking about some stupid article on some random website, to making fun of animefan because he posted something dumb, you guys hardly ever disappoint when boredom rears it's ugly head.
Yeah, I'm not sure how much I'd be changed. Maybe I'd have been a little more productive with my life considering I've been on here for a time span of 30 days and 15 minutes and have made literally over 9000 posts. Of course, that could have been time spent playing games or reading manga so eh.
I really don't regret being on here, though. I got help and teachings in music theory, got into programming a little more than I originally had, and yeh. I learned memes and had a jolly good larf about them until I realized they were overused before I had even gotten to know them. I met some cool people and some people who are just mean to me (:baww:), but it's been funny being on here.
NW is the most interesting specimen on here by far, imo. Especially his speech sometimes on the forums.
Oh yeah, and I guess I learned some stuff about RPG Maker on these RPG Maker forums (The meaning of the letters "RMRK" really do lose their meaning quick >_>)
Giving up RM pretty fast but still sticking around the forums turned out to be a good decision. Thanks to Rawf I've picked up lots of interesting and useful computing skills and taken them further later on myself. Irock pal forever, chewey one love.
Like Holk, I also treat this forums as a place to hang out. But I also come here for opinions and criticisms on my work, because let's face it, RPG Makers are pretty much my target audience. That's even still true for my non-RPG work, you guys seem to like it, so yeah, I definitely value your opinions, positive OR negative. I also enjoy the opportunity this forum gives me to spread what I've learned at music school to younger people, or to people who don't consider themselves professional musicians. In my opinion, you shouldn't have to go to a school to learn the things I learned about theory, so I don't mind sharing my knowledge with you guys.
Place to hang out. Had a small part in making me a better person.
When I joined I was into RPG Maker a lot, but not so much anymore. I still use it a bit but that's not the reason why I stuck around.
This is a pretty cool place for me since I moved and have no friends where I live, so I just waste a lot of time here. I'm with Moo on that I'd be a lot more productive (26 days or something) if I spend less time here, but I think without it my life would be missing something.
I've met some very cool people here who've helped me with personal decisions, had a lot of fun with various games and various members...I just like it here. I think I've changed a lot since I joined (hopefully for better, but there was that one period...) and learned a lot too, a lot of which has affcted my personal life.
One thing I really enjoy is making resources but I don't feel motivated to really unless someone requests them, so stuff like the Icon Shop, Titlescreen Shop and other stuff like that have been great for me.
